  • The tendency of glass containing titanium-dioxide to separate into two phases can be attributed to a change of the coordination number of titanium from six to four on increase of temperature and to "freezing" of the high temperature four fold coordination on cooling of the melt. Addition of TiO2 to the basic glass 8.7 $Na_2O$ 22.4B2O3 68.9 $SiO_2$ was varied 5 to 25 parts. The phase separation in the temperature range of transformation was examined with each heating temperature and soaking time. As the experimental results, the most distinct phase separation were obtained from alkali extraction method when $TiO_2$ was added 15 parts. The apparant activation energy was 30.5 Kcal/mole by alkali extraction method derived from Arrhenius plots.ius plots.

  • In this study an implicit algorithm for modeling of propagation of macrocracks in 3D concrete structures suffering from alkali-silica reaction has been developed and implemented. The formulation of the problem prior to the onset of localized deformation is based on a chemo-elasticity approach. The localized deformation mode, involving the formation of macrocracks, is described using a simplified form of the strong discontinuity approach (SDA) that employs a volume averaging technique enhanced by a numerical procedure for tracing the propagation path in 3D space. The latter incorporates a non-local smoothening algorithm. The formulation is illustrated by a number of numerical examples that examine the crack propagation pattern in both plain and reinforced concrete under different loading scenarios.

  • The morphology and chemical properties of bracken (Pteridium aquilinum) root starch were investigated. The starch granules were mainly sphere and cocoon with the diameter of $5-12\mu$. Polarized micrograph indicated that the starch granule had a hilum at the center of granule, showing a crossed-birefringence. X-ray diffraction pattern demonstrated that the granules showed B-type. The density of the starch was 1.49 and the amylose content was 22%. The ferricyanide number and alkali number were 0.292 and 11.03, respectively. Proximate analysis showed that the starch contained 0.52% lipid, 0.63% ash and 150ppm phosphorus of which over 80% were found in the amylopectin fraction. The iodine affinity and molecular weight of amylose were 16.1 and 83,000 respectively. The degree of branching and glucose units per segment of amylopectin were 3.7% and 27, respectively.

  • The present study investigated the effect of a water-washing process, which is part of the acid hydrometallurgical process for recovery of high purity of zinc, on the removal of alkali metals and chlorides (Na, K, Ca, Cl) from Electric arc furnace dust (EAFD). Two EAFD samples with different properties were characterized by particle size, XRD and element analysis, and their washing efficiencies (%) on alkali metals and chlorides were compared according to pH, washing time, liquid to solid (L/S) ratio and number of washings. The results show that the alkali metals and chlorides could be effectively removed by the washing (at L/S ration of 3 for more than 30 min., pH 10~11) while minimizing loss of zinc (<0.1%), in which the washing efficiency was Na-78%, K-76%, Cl >99%, respectively. Na and K could be removed up to 97% and 89% respectively by 3 times of repeated washings. With increased sample volume (10 times) of the mixed (1:1, w/w) sample with two types of EAFD, it was confirmed that the pH(10~11) can be used as the main process control parameter for the washing of the alkali metals regardless of EAFD properties.

  • A set of rice recombinant inbred lines was developed from a cross between a Tongil type variety, Nonganbyeo, and an indica variety, BG276, by the single seed descent method. The number of the lines in the population was 272. All the agronomic characters studied except ADV (alkali-digestion value) showed continuous variation among the RILs, implying that their inheritance mode should be quantitative. The patterns of the variation in the RILs were either normal or skewed distribution. ADVs of RILs were segregated into two groups with 1:1 ratio, indicating that ADVs in this KIL population might be controlled by one major gene. Transgressive variations were also observed in all characters. Heritability values of the characters varied from 0.488 in brown/rough rice ratio to 0.895 in alkali-digestion value. In the analysis of genotypic and phenotypic correlations, the character of yield was positively correlated with 8 different agronomic characters. The number of panicles per hill was negatively correlated with culm length, panicle length, and number of spikelets per panicle. Grain length was positively correlated with grain width, grain thickness, grain length/width ratio, white belly, ADV, and amylose. However, grain length/width ratio was negatively correlated with grain width. White core was also negatively correlated with white belly and ADV.

  • It is necessary for what just keep a living body balance be devoted to it being varied with acidity serious trouble, and constitution of a study person about the density (ph) change that an alkaline ion necessary for a living body is numerical to supply a human body with number alkali by PWM voltage control. Works in the water which included the calcium (Ca), kalium (K), magnesium (Mg), natrium (Na) back who is helpful for a human body, and there is Alkaline. It is done this alkaline electrolysis to ask in order to create a number, and minerals are gathered through isolated layer (isolated special layer) to a - electrode direction, and is created. of course, prominent derelicts gather, and the acidity capital is happened, and -ion of a chlorine (Cl), phosphorus(P), sulfur (S) back is usable unfavorably in water of different use to a + electrode direction. Microprocessor was used with a - pole and a + pole with a PWM(pulse width modulation) voltage in this electrolysis process, and four kinds of PWM voltages were implemented, and a voltage every ph density change tried to be considered. It is expected by getting exactly if number alkaline ion of ph density value necessary is done with setting value if PWM control is used thus.

  • FK506 binding protein 12 (FK506BP) is a small peptide with a single FK506BP domain that is involved in suppression of immune response and reactive oxygen species. FK506BP has emerged as a potential drug target for several inflammatory diseases. Here, we examined the protective effects of directly applied cell permeable FK506BP (PEP-1-FK506BP) on corneal alkali burn injury (CAI). In the cornea, there was a significant decrease in the number of cells expressing pro-inflammation, apoptotic, and angiogenic factors such as TNF-α, COX-2, and VEGF. Both corneal opacity and corneal neovascularization (CNV) were significantly decreased in the PEP-1-FK506BP treated group. Our results showed that PEP-1-FK506BP can significantly inhibit alkali burn-induced corneal inflammation in rats, possibly by accelerating corneal wound healing and by reducing the production of angiogenic factors and inflammatory cytokines. These results suggest that PEP-1-FK506BP may be a potential therapeutic agent for CAI.

  • Attempt was made to establish identification methods for irradiated starch. Commercial starches (corn starch/CS, sweet potato starch/SS, and potato starch/PS) were irradiated at 0-6.0 kGy and used to measure viscosity with Brookfield DV-III programmable rheometer. Starch suspensions were prepared at 8.0 (7.2%, d.b.), 8.5 (7.3%, d.b.), and 9.0% (7.3%, d.b.) for CS, SS, and PS, respectively at 100 rpm in spindle speed. Results showed viscosities of samples significantly decreased (p<0.05) as irradiation dose increased, with $R^2$ 0.9754, 0.9618, and 0.9888 for CS, SS, and PS, respectively. Irradiation dose at 1.5 kGy induced decrease in viscosity as compared to non-irradiated control by 34, 57, and 51% in CS, SS, and PS, respectively, suggesting viscometry could lie applied to identify irradiated starches. Solubility and alkali number of irradiated starches significantly increased with irradiation doses, while swelling power decreased (p<0.05). Results suggested solubility, alkali number, and swelling power for irradiated starches complement identification results of viscometry.

  • Poly(ethylene glycol) with number-average molecular weight (M$_{n}$) of 200 (PEG 200) or 400 (PEG 400) was reacted with various linking agents (CH$_2$Cl$_2$, CH$_2$Br$_2$, CH$_2$I$_2$, Br(CH$_2$)$_3$Br) in the presence of alkali to form of oxyalkylene linked chains. Molecular weights of copolymers were controlled using feed mole ratio of alkali/CH$_2$C1$_2$/PEG. The M$_{n}$ of the polymers measured by end group analysis and that measured by GPC agreed well. Molecuglar weights of polyether copolymers obtained from PEG 200 and PEG 400 were about 500~8500 and 1000~2000, respectively. Polyether copolymers prepared from PEG 400 showed melting points of around 1$0^{\circ}C$. Glass transition temperatures of the copolymers were around -75$^{\circ}C$ and the crystallinity was about 0~25%. The polyether copolymers prepared from PEG 200 had no crystallinity below the M$_{n}$ of 2500. 2500.

  • With the vision of 'a low carbon green develop' various industrial by-products were used as replacement of cement, in order to reduce $CO_2$ emissions from the manufacturing process of cement. Blast furnace slag is one of the industrial by-products. Due to the similar chemical compositions to ordinary Portland cement, blast furnace slag have been widely used in concrete with minimum side effects. Hence, in recent years, alkali activated slag-based composites are extensively studied by many researchers. However, the alkali activator can cause a number of problems in practice. Therefore, in this study, an alternative way of activating the slag was investigated. To activate the slag without using an alkali activator, calcium sulfate dihydrate was chosen and mixed with natural recycled fine aggregate. Fundamental properties of the slag-based mortar were tested to evaluate the effect of calcium sulfate dihydrate.
