  • The objective of this study is to develop mixture proportioning approach of crack controlled lightweight foamed concrete without using high-pressure steam curing processes, as an alternative to autoclaved lightweight concrete blocks (class 0.6 specified in KS). To control thermal cracks owing to hydration heat of cementitious materials, 30% ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) was used as a partial replacement of ordinary portland cement (OPC). Furthermore, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and polyamid (PA) fibers were added to improve the crack resistance of foamed concrete. The use of 30% GGBS reduced the peak value of hydration production rate measured from isothermal tests by 28% and the peak temperature of foamed concrete measured from semi-adiabatic hydration tests by 9%. Considering the compressive strength development, internal void structure, and flexural strength of the lightweight foamed concrete, the optimum addition amount of PVA or PA fibers could be recommended to be $0.6kg/m^3$, although PA fiber slightly preferred to PVA fiber in enhancing the flexural strength of foamed concrete.

  • To conserve wood resources for papermaking, chemical compositions of the hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) bast fiber cultivated in Korea such as holocellulose, ${\alpha}$-cellulose, lignin, alcohol-benzene extractives, hot and cold water extractives, and ash contents were investigated to manufacture the specialty packaging paper effectively. Significantly very low klason lignin content of 3.3% was accomplished by removing of the outer shell of bark. Laboratory soda pulping method which is very useful for the nonwood fiber was adapted, and it was found that there was no significant difference in both kappa number and H-factor between 25% and 30% NaOH charge. Hemp pulp cooked with the laboratory digester in 25% NaOH at $170^{\circ}C$ were mixed together with the wood pulp(NBKP:LBKP=1:1) in order to find the optimum mixture ratio which exhibited acceptable paper strength properties such as tensile index, burst index, and tear strength. When 10% of hemp soda pulps was mixed with 90% of wood pulps comprised of SwBKP and HwBKP (1:1), all physical strength increased significantly. The physical strength decreased as the amount of hemp pulp increased because the cell wall of bast fiber is very thick which causes low conformability and low fiber-fiber bonding. These results showed that paper made of hemp-wood pulp can be used for the specialty packaging paper which requires both the characteristic surface properties and the high physical strength of hemp fiber.

  • Microspheres of felodipine, which is one of the calcium channel blocker using a mixture of Eudragi $t^{R}$ RL, L, E, and cellulose on the base of Eudragi $t^{R}$ RS were investigated. Cremopho $r^{R}$ was added to each preparation of polymers in order to increase the release of felodipine from microspheres. Felodipine-loaded microspheres were prepared by a solvent evaporation method, which is based on dispersion of methylene chloride containing felodipine and polymers in 0.5 w/v % polyvinyl alcohol solution. The average diameter based on the size distribution of the felodipine-loaded microspheres was observed to be ca. 40-55 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. A good and smooth surface were showed in all types of the microspheres. The amount of felodipine loaded was over 90 w/w % in all types of microspheres. The dissolution profiles of felodipine from microspheres were similar with each type of polymer, and about a 60 w/w % of the total amount of felodipine loaded to microsphere was released within 7 hours. Dissolution rate of felodipine from the microsphere was increased by addition of Cremophor. After oral administration of the felodipine-loaded microspheres in PVA solution and felodipine alone in PEG solution to rats, respectively, the pharmacokinetic study revealed that the Tmax values of the microspheres were observed in the range of 0.67~l.0 hr while that of the felodipine solution was obtained 0.33 hr. In addition, the AUC of the microspheres at 0 to 7 hr was remarkably increased in comparison to that of felodipine solution. These results revealed that the microspheres based on Eudragit RS could be a good candidate for the controlled release drug delivery system for felodipine.e.e.e.

  • The approximate rates, stoichiometries and products of the reaction of potassium triethylborohydride $(KEt_3BH)$ with selected organic compounds containing representative functional groups under the standard condition $(0^{\circ}C,$ THF) were examined in order to explore the reducing characteristics of this reagent as a selective reducing agent. Primary alcohols, phenols and thiols evolve hydrogen rapidly whereas secondary and tertiary alcohols evolve very slowly. n-Hexylamine is inert to this reagent. Aldehydes and ketones are reduced rapidly and quantitatively to the corresponding alcohols. Reduction of noncamphor gives 3% exo- and 97% endo-norboneol. Anthraquinone is cleanly reduced to 9,10-dihydro-9,10-dihydroxyanthracene stage. Carboxylic acids liberate hydrogen rapidly and quantitatively but further reduction does not occur. Anhydrides utilize 2 equiv of hydride to give an equimolar mixture of acid and alcohol. Acid chlorides, esters and lactones are rapidly and quantitatively reduced to the corresponding alcohols. Epoxides are reduced at moderate rates with Markovnikov ring opening to give the more substituted alcohols. Primary amides liberate 1 equiv of hydrogen rapidly. Further reduction of caproamide is slow whereas benzamide is not reduced. Tertiary amides are reduced slowly. Benzonitrile utilizes 2 equiv of hydride in 3 h to go to the amine stage whereas capronitrile takes only 1 equiv. The reaction of nitro compounds undergo rapidly whereas azobenzene and azoxybenzene are reduced slowly. Cyclohexanone oxime rapidly evolves hydrogen without reduction. Phenyl isocyanate utilizes 1 equiv of hydride to proceed to formanilide stage. Pyridine N-oxide and pyridine is reduced rapidly. Disulfides are rapidly reduced to the thiol stage whereas sulfoxide, sulfonic acid are practically inert to this reagent. Sulfones and cyclohexyl tosylate are slowly reduced. Octyl bromide is reduced rapidly but octyl chloride and cyclohexyl bromide are reduced slowly.

  • This investigation was undertaken to establish the ultrastructural organization of the retina in domestic fowl (Gallus domesticus B.) comparing with the ultrastructure that has been indicated in other Aves by several workers. The electron microscope observations were made on selected segments of retinal tissue prefixed for 2 hrs in 1.25% glutaraldehyde buffered with 0.2 M cacodylate at pH 7.2 and then postfixed in cold 1% osmium tetroxide in 0.4 M cacodylate buffer for 2 hrs. After postfixation, tissues were dehydrated in alcohol series, embedded in Epon 812 mixture from propylene oxide and stained with saturated uranyl acetate and $Pb(NO_3)_2$ solution. Specimens were examined with a Hitachi HS-7S electron microscope. The pigment epithelia cells contain numerous mitochondria with prominent dense granules and several changeful spaped Golgi bodies. The internal fine structure of the receptor outer segments revealed the characteristic stacks or arrays of bimembranous disks. The ellipsoid outer portion of the cone inner segments is composed of a tightly packed mass of extraordinarily large mitochondria. The outer limiting membrane is seen to contain many junctional complexes, the fibrillar material of which is electron-dense.

  • Three sex pheromone components (cis-8-dodecenyl acetate (Z12Ac), trans-8-dodecenyl acetate (E12Ac), cis-8-dodecenol (Z12OH)) of the Oriental fruit moth, Grapholita molesta, were chemically synthesized. Especially to increase the composition of cis-stereoisomer, a triple bond intermediate was hydrogenated at $-20^{\circ}C$ with catalytic $Pd/BaSO_{4}$. The resulting product consisted of the acetates with a stereoisomer ratio in 92:8 (Z:E). The biological activity of the synthesized pheromone compounds was analyzed both in male responses and orientation disruption. The indoor pheromone effect was determined by male flight behavior showing wing movement in response to lure. Different mixtures of the synthetic pheromone components were prepared by mixing acetate and alcohol components in 100:0, 99:1, and 90:10 (g/g) and tested with a comparison of a standard commercial pheromone lure. The highest pheromone effect was observed in only acetate mixture (100:0) and the effect was reduced with the addition of the alcohol component. This indoor pheromone effect could be observed in field monitoring trial, in which 100:0 mixture showed the highest trap catches. Orientation disruption assay was conducted indoor by using a cage, in which the center had a commercial lure on sticky plate and the four candidates were placed at 6 cm away from the central lure on each of four directions. Test males were released to the arena during overnight (12 h) and then the caught males on the sticky plate were counted. The synthesized pheromone as well as the commercial pheromone showed 100% orientation disruption. However, the orientation disruption effect was reduced with decrease in the number of the surrounding disrupting pheromone baits. These results clearly suggest that the synthesized sex pheromone of G. molesta is biologically active and can be used for field mating disruption.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the extraction yield and quality stability as to the oleoresin process with large amount of onion at one time. The first mixed-product is raw onion juice which was reduced the compression and concentrated by Brix 70% mixed together wit the residue which was extracted and concentrated by ethanol, the second product manufactured by the same method above after the autoclaving with onion, and the other product is made by grinding by 50mesh to freeze-dried onion. Each of yields were 7.3, 9.1 and 0.8% and each of total sugar content was 616.4, 712.3 and 150.3mg/g. Therefore the product extracted by ethanol from freeze-dried onion was very low in yield and total sugar content. By the index of the overall odor intensity, contents of total pyruvate were 1,733.7, 520.6, and 2,716.5$\mu\textrm{g}$/g for each product. As a result, oleoresin onion processing that desired to use raw onion was remarkable for odor recovery. For the homogenous mixture with concentrate of onion juice and ethanol extract were emulsified by the addition of 2% of PGDR(polyglycerol condensed ricinoleate) and agitation(10,000rpm, 30 minutes). At this time, interfacial tension was 1.9 dyne/cm and the formation of emulsion was for 96.2% when left over 24hours in 6$0^{\circ}C$. When it was to be centrifuged(2,000$\times$G, 80 minutes) after emulsification, the volume of emulsion level without seperation was 92.6%, and very high in emulsification stability. The induced heating-oxidize with soy bean oil and sesame oil added to 1% of onion oleoresin, induction-time extension effect appeared with antioxidant activity that was applicable for 80.8~82.2% as to the effect of addition of 0.02% BHA.

  • These experiments were carried out to study influences of the kind of yeasts and of brewing condition on fermentation of Takjoo mash. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Kind of yeasts and the number of yeasts in mash. When the first stage mash was fermented at $20^{\circ}C$ for $1.5{\sim}2.5$ days and at $25^{\circ}C$, $30^{\circ}C$ for $1{\sim}2days$, in the second stage mash that was fermented at high temperature, the number of yeasts was less as compared with the case of fermentation at low temperature, but the living yeasts number of Takjoo yeast strain Dm-1 was more than those of sake yeast, strain No. 7. 2. Kind of yeasts and composition of ripened mash. 1) In the secondstage mash that was fermented at high temperature($30{\sim}35^{\circ}C$), alcohol percentage of ripened mash using the selected Takjoo yeasts (strains: Dm-1, Y-1) was remarkably higher than the case of another yeasts (strains: No.7, No.6, No. 396, No. 1). 2) Acidity of mash had a little differences between strain Dm-1 and strain No. 7. 3) In the second stage mash that was fermented at high temperature ($30{\sim}35^{\circ}C$), the amount of Formol-N using strain Dm-1 was remarkably less than strain No.7. 3. Brewing condition and alcohol percentage of mash. 1) The fit amount of wheat bran Kuk addition per material was 3 percentage and it was adequate to use the mixture of wheat flour Kuk 20 percentage and wheat bran Kuk 1-2 percentage. 2) Though brewing concentration of the first stage mash was duiluted by twice of general brewing concentration, the yeast reproduction was normal. 3) In addition of wheat flour $80{\sim}140g$ per 180ml water, alcohol percentage of the mash increased almost propotionally according to the increase of the amount of wheat flour. 4) It was recognized that three stage brewing was superior in method to two stage brewing at present.

  • Stable production of fermented kanjang containing 1.8% (v/v) ethanol was obtained within four days using traditional kanjang containing 4% added glucose in packed-bed bioreactor systems filled with immobilized Zygosaccharomyces rouxii and Candida versatilis on porous alumina ceramic bead carrier at $28{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$ and aeration rate of 0.05 vvm. Specific rates of alcohol production for Z. rouxii and C. versatilis were 0.0033 and 0.0031/day, respectively, and those of glucose consumption were both -0.0087/day in the batch type of alcoholic fermentation. In semi-continuous alcoholic fermentation at a dilution rate of 0.25/day, specific rates of alcohol production for Z. rouxii and C. versatilis were 0.0045 and 0.0029/day, and those of glucose consumption were -0.01 and -0.008/day, respectively, using identical bioreactor system. Similar specific rates of alcohol production were observed both in the batch or semi-continuous process and in the continuous one at the dilution rate of 0.25/day. Sensory characteristics of all alcoholic-fermented kanjang by Z. rouxii, C. versatilis, and a mixture of both yeasts (2:1, w/w) were shown to be significantly superior to those of home-made kanjang as revealed through organoleptic evaluation tests (p<0.05).

  • A new sake fermented using a mixture of Aspergillus sp., Rhizopus sp. and yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) containing allbanggae was developed in this study. The effects of the allbanggae contents ($0{\sim}50%$) in the sake on the qualitative and sensory properties and flavor components were investigated. The fermentation with allbanggae, especially in sake containing 10% allbanggae, showed the highest level of alcohol ($15.3{\sim}16.4%$), whereas the amount of alcohol decreased with increasing allbanggae contents. Amino acidity in sake containing 10% and 20% allbanggae indicated the highest levels ($0.90{\sim}1.20%$). In addition, it was observed that the sake containing 10% allbanggae showed the smallest level of reducing sugars, which were increased with increasing allbanggae ratio. Furthermore, various organic acids in the sake were detected such as citric, succinic, malic and acetic acids, among which the acetic acid showed the highest amount ($160.3{\pm}8.0{\sim}253.3{\pm}20.3mg/100mL$). The major amino acids detected in the sakes were alanine, proline, histidine, phenylalanine, lysine and glutamic acid. The sake containing 20% allbanggae indicated the highest amino acids amount among the allbanggae ratios. Based on these results, it was concluded that the sake containing 20% allbanggae could be successfully commercialized.
