  • This paper presents an experimental study of the factors modulating the urgency perception of voice alarm generated by concatenative synthesizers. Four experiments were conducted using psycho-physical approach in which 105 participants made magnitude estimation for urgency perception of various voice alarm stimuli. Experiment 1 identified 6 acoustic and non-acoustic factors modulating the perceived urgency of synthesized voice alarm. Experiment 2, 3 and 4 quantified the relations between the objective changes in each of the quantifiable parameters and the subjective changes in urgency perception. This research has implications for the design and implementation of synthesized voice alarm systems where urgency mapping is required.

  • This paper presents the strength safety of a hybrid alarm valve by a finite element analysis. The stress and strain of a conventional hybrid alarm valve are calculated for the given maximum test pressure of 2MPa. Especially, the FEM computed maximum stress of a conventional hybrid valve is only 18.6% of yield strength, 370MPa. This means that the conventional valve is designed with a thick thickness of a valve structure. But, new hybrid alarm valve model, which is developed by optimized design method in this study, shows more low level of 43% in maximum stress and strain compared with that of a conventional hybrid valve. These results may recommend the reduction of a weight and a dimension for an optimized hybrid alarm valve.

  • There are many alarms in Substation Automation System because of data types and quantities increasing, so it is very difficult for operators to know the actual situations. In order to help operators easily make decision, some unnecessary alarms should be removed or combined as one. In this paper, alarm processing is using the structure of substation system and the relation of measured data and events to make some rules. Conventional alarm processing just gives data, but proposed alarm processing gives the whole information. In a simulation model system, the data such as voltage, current and CB status are collected by HyperSim and saved in DB, then proposed alarm processing has been testified using those data based on real-time simulation.

  • The people who are in the noise factory are difficult to hear and recognize about fire and to evacuate quickly when a fire occurs. This study was conducted to analyze workplace's background noise of 31 factories in Incheon and to know the workplace noise level comparing to fire alarm sound level. The measured average noise level was 96.8dB(A). Noise level of measured result was exceeded as 6.8dB(A) comparing to NFSC (National Fire Safety Code) noise level of 90dB. NFPA suggests that when background noise exceeds 85dB or more than that, other methods should be considered to know alarm sound. Also fire alarm sound should exceed more than 15dB(A) comparing to background noise level. Therefore it was concluded that the design of the fire alarm systems should not be applied to the workplace without considering background noise and it needs to be improved with regulations and the systems.

  • GPS type portable-alarm-system is composed of satellite receiving equipment, signal transmission equipment, etc. Time errors occur because of the processing methods of the satellite receiving equipment and signal generator, the positional error of GPS itself, etc. With the recent rise of train speed, it becomes very important to secure the stability of portable-alarm-system from time errors, The present study estimated errors caused by the structure of portable-alarm-system, GPS errors. etc., and verified them. In addition, it examined the effects of such errors on portable-alarm-system according to train speed.

  • Type R fire alarm is required intelligent buildings and height buildings which was based on automatic system. But in Korea, maintenance of fire alarm system is very poor. In this study, we developed assessment model for the type R fire alarm system which was assessed by using 96 checklist items. The assessment model was tested through the actual 4 buildings with type R fire alarm system. It is shown that present model can be applied for the assessment of all buildings through the examination of the suitability of assessment model by actual assessment. Also, it was made easily fire manager to carry out checklist for type R fire alarm system in buildings.

  • This article discusses the sabotage of loops of intruder alarm systems. Although loop alarm systems are now gradually being replaced by digital alarm systems, they are still significantly present in practice. This paper describes two experimentally verified techniques for sabotaging balanced loops. The first technique is based on the jump replacement of the balancing resistor by a fake resistor. The second technique is based on inserting a series-parallel combination of two rheostats into the loop. By alternately changing the resistance of these rheostats, a state is reached where the balancing resistor is shorted by the parallel rheostat and replaced by the series rheostat. Sabotage devices for both attacks are technically simple and inexpensive, so they can be made and used by an amateur. Owners of loop alarm systems should become find out about this threat.

  • A video flame detection method analyze the temporal and spatial characteristics of the regions which have the flame-like color and moving objects in the input video. The video flame detector should be able to reduce a false alarm rate without the degradation of flame detection capability. The conventional methods can reject the false alarm caused by the car lights and some electric lights. However they make the false alarm caused by the warning lights, neon sign, and some periodic flickering lights which have the flame-like color and temporal features. This paper propose the video flame detection method with periodicity analysis based false alarm rejection. The proposed method can detect the periodicity of the flickering electric lights and can reject the false alarm caused by the periodic electric lights. The computer simulation showed that the proposed method did not make the false alarm in the test video with the periodic electric lights. But the conventional methods made a false alarm in the same test video.

  • In many fire emergencies, the audible fire alarm signals are very important to save the occupant's life. But as the sound insulation of building elements has been improved, it is more difficult for occupant to recognize the fire alarm signals when the fire alarm worked. This is the study to show the sound attenuation of the fire alarm sounder system in apartment buildings. We measured and analyzed the sound attenuation level in 17 units, and the results were compared with the minimum sound level at sleeping area by NFPA(National Fire Protection Association) 72. When only the fire alarm worked in stair hall, the sound levels in bedroom were in the range of $30.6{\sim}42.8dB(A)$ and the differences between sound level and ambient sound level in bedrooms were in the range of $7.1{\sim}13.8dB(A)$. And when the emergency broadcasting device in the livingroom and the fire alarm worked simultaneously, the sound levels in bedrooms were in the range of $54.2{\sim}63.0dBA$. Finally, it was showed that the fire alarm sounder system didn't give a sufficient sound level in bedroom to awake out of sleep.

  • In this thesis, we propose a high-speed information network management mode based on layering and partitioning concepts of ITU-T G.805 We describe an information mood of the configuration of VP and VC networks and an information mode to manage faults in high-speed information networks. In order to efficient manage faults, us distinguish between an alarm with a fault that has negative effects on services and an alarm with an alert that barely affects services. Thus, we propose two types of computational models to treat all of these alarms, a fault alarm processing system and an alert alarm processing system. We also describe procedures of alarm processing and we describe the scope and processing course of NMS and SubNMS when rerouting a fault VP and VC fault connection. Lastly, we describe the implementation and analysis of the performance of the proposed fault alarm processing system. We compare the alarm processing tire of each priority according to the alarm occurrence ratio.
