Air passenger demand forecasting for the Incheon airport using time series models (시계열 모형을 이용한 인천공항 이용객 수요 예측)

  • The Incheon airport is a gateway to and from the Republic of Korea and has a great influence on the image of the country. Therefore, it is necessary to predict the number of airport passengers in the long term in order to maintain the quality of service at the airport. In this study, we compared the predictive performance of various time series models to predict the air passenger demand at Incheon Airport. From 2002 to 2019, passenger data include trend and seasonality. We considered the naive method, decomposition method, exponential smoothing method, SARIMA, PROPHET. In order to compare the capacity and number of passengers at Incheon Airport in the future, the short-term, mid-term, and long-term was forecasted by time series models. For the short-term forecast, the exponential smoothing model, which weighted the recent data, was excellent, and the number of annual users in 2020 will be about 73.5 million. For the medium-term forecast, the SARIMA model considering stationarity was excellent, and the annual number of air passengers in 2022 will be around 79.8 million. The PROPHET model was excellent for long-term prediction and the annual number of passengers is expected to be about 99.0 million in 2024.

  • This study is aimed to develop a system to position and manage object flow in real time. Logistics management system which position objects and vans using GPS is required to load, unload and keep freight effectively and in real time at sea or airport. In this study, a management system which is consisted of five sub-systems is developed; GPS position analysis system, GPS interface system, mapping system, network system and database management system.

  • For the world's safest air traffic, safety-related areas through the large investment made in a sufficient safe level, but the airport's lack of safety management is concerned about the safety. Airside area is essential area for the flights, and activities of safe management in airside area is very important. Grafting of airside safety management and IT, importance of the safety and efficiency is growing. Advanced airports of world has applied GIS over 10 years ago, and through applying GIS, Airports GIS has been a specialized area. Therefore, this research is for geographic information standards and related laws, providing a guideline of regulations and standards for AIXM (Aeronautical Information Exchange Model), RTCA DO-272A (USER REQUIREMENTS FOR AERODROME MAPPING INFORMATION), FAA Advisory Circular 150/5300 -18A (General Guidance and Specifications for Submission of Aeronautical Survey to NGS: Field Data Collection and Geographic Information System Standards), and by analyzing aviation information and air map(notice "Civil Aviation Safety Authority No. 2009-1"), provide the direction of standardization for air map.

  • Preliminary scheduling at the initial stage of planning phase is usually performed with limited information and details. Therefore, the reliability and accuracy of preliminary scheduling is affected by personal experiences and skills of the schedule planners, and it requires enormous managerial effort (or workload). Reusing of historical data of the similar projects is important for efficient preliminary scheduling. However, understanding the structure of historical data and applying them to a new project requires a great deal of experience and knowledge. In this context, this paper propose a framework and methodology for automated preliminary schedule generation based on historical database. The proposed methodology and framework enables to automatically generate CPM schedules for airport projects in the early planning stage in order to enhance the reliability and to reduce the workload by using structured knowledge and experience.

  • Incheon International Airport Construction Project the biggest national multi-complex construction project in a single area in Korea, the necessity for introducing the Program Management System has been brought up from the development stage due to its specific characteristics and environment and with the Project Management Services Contract in December 1994 the system has been established and operated. At the time of contracting, there were controversies over the expected effect of the system since there were no related laws and regulations in domestic construction codes. Furthermore the situation was very hard in which some practical problems have been found in the process of applying and operating the system due to the lack of recognition and infrastructure in Korea. Incheon. In spite of these difficulties, thanks to the devotion and efforts of the project participants along with thoughtful concerns from the industries and the academies, the project goal has been successfully accomplished. This paper will analyze the various problems arose in the process of applying the Project Management System to Incheon International Airport and present more practical and desirable ways so that it can help to make the environment for properly settling Construction Management at the earliest.

  • In maned airport, crews may have risks as they manage passenger control system in IPMS in damage situations such as fire in a airport. So the application of unmanned autonomous system can reduce the number of boarding crews and attribute to safe airplane transportation. PBBC model can be used to obtain control strategy, and airplane and enhance operators' skill by simulating the airport. The paper suggests an intelligent system of the pbbc control using microprocessor in integrated platform management system which can take measures against passenger situation of a airplane excluding unnecessary warnings with undamaged situations. The system here detected the passenger more accurately and adopted more appriate measures according to airplane status compared with conventional systems.

  • Nowadays, the domestic construction markets are more competitive and the construction companies are very difficult to obtain profits. To overcome this situation, some construction companies are looking for value added business areas. To create and enter into the value added business areas, knowledge management to create, share and apply knowledge is important. However, the existing knowledge management has problems because it does not consider organizational culture. Therefore, strategic changes of person and organization are needed to improve the existing knowledge management. In this study, learning organization plan is suggested as a foundation of knowledge management in the construction companies and examined by IIAC(Incheon International Airport Corporation) case.

  • In modern society the population of disabled goes on increasing rapidly not only in congenital deformities but also in acquired handicapped persons due to various factors such as car accidents and industrial disaster. And the number of disabled passengers in airports is growing every year with economic growth and globalization in Korea as well. That is the reason why the effort to the convenient facilities for the disabled in airports is needed more. The real situation in airports which are the public buildings is that the effort to install the facilities for the disabled is only perfunctory to meet the legal standard and cannot answer to the expectation of the facilities for e disabled. In this investigation I would like to give the airport operators the guide line to expand the facilities and the disabled an opportunity to use airports more freely and conveniently through the presentation on the problems and solutions with the current situation of the facilities for the disabled and the satisfaction of users in all airports in Korea.

  • The purpose of air traffic flow management is to balance demand and capacity in the national airspace, and its performance relies on an accurate capacity prediction of the airport or airspace. This paper developed a regression model that predicts the number of aircraft actually departing and arriving in a terminal maneuvering area. The regression model is based on a boosting ensemble learning algorithm that learns past aircraft operational data such as time, weather, scheduled demand, and unfulfilled demand at a specific airport in the terminal maneuvering area. The developed model was tested using historical departure and arrival flight data at Incheon International Airport, and the coefficient of determination is greater than 0.95. Also, the capacity of the terminal maneuvering area of interest is implicitly predicted by using the model.
