In this paper, the experimental study on the identification of noise sources and noise transmission paths was carried out for the cabin noise control of construction equipment. In order to investigate noise and vibration characteristics of cabin structure, sound absorption, transmission, and radiation tests were performed using cabin assembly models. The noise/vibration source levels were obtained from the real cabins of wheel loader and excavator. Using transfer functions of cabins and real cabins' source data, cabin noise was decomposed into airborne and structureborne noise transmissions. Finally noise sources and major transmission paths were successfully identified for wheel loader and excavator's cabins.

It is well known that tire tread pattern has much influence on the tire pattern noise. The paper describes the method of pattern noise reduction by using the pitch sequence, both on the smooth asphalt roads and on the trenched concrete roads. The noise of tire is classified as either airborne or structure borne noise. Pattern noise through the airborne is considered as a major noise source at high speeds. As block impacting and air pumping by tread patterns are major noise source, tire pattern noise can be greatly influenced by optimal pitch sequence. The goal of this paper is to provide tire engineers with pitch sequence to reduce pattern noise effectively.
This paper presents the research results for the reduction of a gear whine noise based on experimental and analytic methods. The test vehicle has a whine noise problem at the passenger seats in a sport utility vehicle. To identify the transfer path of the interior noise due to the axle system, a vibration path analysis, modal analysis and operational deflection shape analysis are systematically employed. By using these various methods, it has been found that the interior noise generated by the axle system was airborne noise. To reduce and predict the whine generated by the axle system, structural modifications for the axle system are performed by using FEM and BEM techniques. The structural modification of the axle cover is suggested for the reduction of whine noise.
Objectives: This study was undertaken to assess the sanitary conditions in the kitchens of food court/cafeterias and determine seasonal variations. Methods: We measured environmental factors (air temperature, relative humidity, illumination intensity, noise level), and dropping airborne microbes (bacteria and fungi) in the kitchens of eight food court/cafeterias in four seasons (January, April, July, and October). Air temperature and relative humidity were measured with in/out thermo-hygrometers at 1.2-1.5 m above floor level. Illuminance measurement was performed through the multiple point method of Korean Standards (KS). Noise level was measured by the standard methods for the examination of environmental pollution (noise and vibration) of Korea. The estimation of dropping airborne bacteria and fungi was performed through use of Koch's method. Results: The highest kitchen air temperature was in July, and the lowest in January. The average temperature surpassed $21^{\circ}C$ throughout the seasons, suggesting a higher temperature than required for the safe handling of food. Humidity in all the kitchens was measured in the range of 50-60%. Half of the kitchens showed illumination intensities below 300 Lux in April. It was found that the sound pressure level of noise in almost all of the kitchens was higher than 85 dB (A). The highest levels of dropping airborne bacteria and fungi were noted in July. The numbers of airborne bacteria were higher than those of fungi. The levels of dropping airborne bacteria and fungi were affected by air temperature, relative humidity, season, and place. Conclusions: This study indicates that the kitchen environments were unqualified to supply safe food. The hygiene level of the kitchens should be improved.
In this paper, a comparison about two representative Transfer Path Analysis(TPA) methods for air-borne noise based on, matrix inversion method and pressure transmissibility, are presented on the view point of crosstalk effect between sources. In order to assess accuracy of two methods according to path models between virtual airborne noise sources, experiments are made for two cases, weak and strong crosstalk effect condition, by using acrylic vehicle model. Based on this assessment, the paper presents a reasonable application criteria for TPA method according to the circumstances of air-borne noise sources.
In this study, reduction of airborne and structure-borne noise of naval ship pump is presented. Since piping system arrangement such as valve location, flexible joint, pipe diameter and elbow location, discharge basin affect greatly on the noise measurement, care must be taken to minimize the unnecessary noise from the piping system. It is shown that structure-borne noise of the motor with single resilient mount system exceeds criterion. Therefore, it is concluded that double resilient mount system is inevitable. Two kinds of mount is studied for upper mount; spring and rubber type. Although both mounts show good performance at low frequency including rpm frequency, 63Hz, spring mount is found to be inadequate at high frequency, because spring coil acts as a path for SBN.
The purpose of this study was to reduce the airborne noise emitted from the package air-conditioner(PAC) therefore, the optimim design melthods of the fans and the flow-paths were investigated experimentally through the anlaysis of the nose problems caused by the conventional PAC system, and the fan performance tests and the systme resistance measurements of the parts which belong to the flow-paths of the PACwere used to study these noise problems. As a results, through the optimized flow-paths of the new PAC system with the lowset system resistance, and by adjusting and matching the operating point of each fan to each PAC system, the airborne noise reductions from the new indoor PAC and the outdoor one were achieved upto 5.5 dBA and 6.6 dBA respectively in overall noise level as compared with the conventional PAC system.
A survey and auditory experiment on multiple residential noises such as floor impact, airborne, bathroom, drainage and traffic noises were conducted to develop a combined rating system and to establish criteria for multiple residential noises. Subjective reactions such as annoyance, activity disturbance, sleep disturbance, and satisfaction to overall noise environment and each residential noise were recorded. The effect of individual noise perception on the evaluation of the overall noise environment was also investigated. The survey results showed that satisfaction for floor impact noise most greatly affects the overall satisfaction for overall noise environment and annoyance most greatly affects the satisfaction for individual noise sources. Auditory experiments were undertaken to determine the percent satisfaction for individual noise levels. Result of auditory experiment showed that the noise level corresponding to 40 % satisfaction is 49 dB $(L_{i,Fmax,AW})$ for floor impact and is about 40 dB(A) for airborne, drainage and traffic noise. From the results of the survey and the auditory experiments, an equation for predicting the overall satisfaction for multiple noises was developed and a classification of multiple residential noises was proposed.
Mold grows more easily when humidity is higher in indoor spaces, and as such is found more often on wetted areas in housing such as walls, toilets, kitchens, and poorly managed spaces. However, there have been few studies that have specifically assessed the level of mold in the indoor spaces of water-damaged housing in the Republic of Korea. We investigated the levels of airborne mold according to the characteristics of water damage types and explored the correlation between the distribution of mold genera and the characteristics of households. Samplings were performed from January 2016 to June 2018 in 97 housing units with water leakage or condensation, or a history of flooding, and in 61 general housing units in the metropolitan and Busan area, respectively. Airborne mold was collected on MEA (Malt extract agar) at flow rate of 100 L/min for 1 min. After collection, the samples were incubated at $25^{\circ}C$ for 120 hours. The cultured samples were counted and corrected using a positive hole conversion table. The samples were then analyzed by single colony culture, DNA extraction, gene amplification, and sequencing. By type of housing, concentrations of airborne mold were highest in flooded housing, followed by water-leaked or highly condensed housings, and then general housing. In more than 50% of water-damaged housing, the level of airborne mold exceeded the guideline of Korea's Ministry of Environment ($500CFU/m^3$). Of particular concern was the fact that the I/O ratio of water-damaged housing was greater than 1, which could indicate that mold damage may occur indoors. The distribution patterns of the fungal species were as follows: Penicillium spp., Cladosporium spp. (14%), Aspergillus spp. (13%) and Alternaria spp. (3%), but significant differences of their levels in indoor spaces were not found. Our findings indicate that high levels of mold damage were found in housing with water damage, and Aspergillus flavus and Penicillium brevicompactum were more dominant in housing with high water activity. Comprehensive management of flooded or water-damaged housing is necessary to reduce fungal exposure.
