  • The conjugate heat transfer from the simulated module in a horizontal channel with the variation of inlet air temperature is experimentally investigated. The aim of this study is to estimate temperature difference between a module and inlet air. This study is performed with the variation of parameters that are inlet air temperature(Ti=25~$55^{\circ}C), thermal resistance( $R_c$=0.05, 4.11, 158 K/W), inlet air velocity(Vi=0.1~1.5m/s), and input power(Q=3, 7 W). The results show that the effect of inlet air temperature is little, at the case of using conductive board. And input power was most effective parameter on the temperature difference between module and Inlet air.

  • Since the terrain of Korea is complex, micro- as well as meso-climate variability is extreme by locations in Korea. In particular, air temperature of agricultural fields is influenced by topographic features of the surroundings making accurate interpolation of regional meteorological data from point-measured data. This study was carried out to compare spatial interpolation methods to estimate air temperature in agricultural fields surrounded by rugged terrains in South Korea. Four spatial interpolation methods including Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW), Spline, Ordinary Kriging (with the temperature lapse rate) and Cokriging were tested to estimate monthly air temperature of unobserved stations. Monthly measured data sets (minimum and maximum air temperature) from 588 automatic weather system(AWS) locations in South Korea were used to generate the gridded air temperature surface. As the result, temperature lapse rate improved accuracy of all of interpolation methods, especially, spline showed the lowest RMSE of spatial interpolation methods in both maximum and minimum air temperature estimation.

  • The results obtained are as follows; 1. The variation of the temperature in a vinyl house without heating system is similar to that of air temperature in a day. The difference of maximum temperature and minimum one in a day is 27$^{\circ}C$ which is two times greater than the daily difference of air temperature. 2. When the length of the duct is increased, the high temperature zone is built up in the direction of warm air discharge from the duct, and the low temperature zone is built up in the opposite direction of warm air discharge. But, in case of the duct length is short (0.05 L), the temperature distrubution in a vinyl house become uniform. It is concluded that the shorter length of the duct, the better the distribution of the temperature in a vinyl house is. 3. When the duct is installed at high position, the high temperature zone is built up in the upper zone of the vinyl house and the low temperature zone is built up in the lower zone. And when the position of the duct is low, the rate of temperature variation along the vertical direction become high, and the direct contact of warm air with the plant in the house is occured. It is concluded that the duct should be installed at the position of slightly higher than the plant height. 4. When the fuel consumption rate is fixed at the 101/hr, the lowest temperature warming rate in the vinyl house is 5$^{\circ}C$ without regard to the air temperature.

  • The main purpose of this study was to estimate a new regression model to explain the relationship between urban forest and air temperature in summer, 2001. This study consists of two parts: correlation coefficient analysis and regression analysis. According to correlation coefficient analysis, thermal infra-red radiations of the major land use categories found significant difference in each category. However there were no significant relationship between the data (thermal infra-red radiation and NDVI) derived from Landsat-7 ETM+ image and air temperature at Automatic Weather Stations(AWSs). After estimating various regression models for summer air temperature, the final models were chosen. The final regression models consisted of two variables such as forest m and traffic facilities area. The regression models explained over 78% of the variability in air temperatures. The regression models with variables of forest area and traffic facilities area showed that the coefficient of the first variable was even more significant than the second one. However, the negative impact of the traffic facilities area was slightly greater than the positive impact of the forest area. Consequently, the effects of forest area and traffic facilities area were apparent to explain summer air temperature in Seoul. Therefore two policies have the most important implications to mitigate the summer air temperature in Seoul: to expand and to conserve the urban forest; and to change the Oafnc facilities'characteristics. The results from this study are expected to be useful not merely in informing the public that urban forest mitigates summer air temperahne, but in urging the necessity of budgets for trees and managing urban forests. It is recommended that field swey of summer air temperature be Performed for the vadidation of the models. • Samples of banana were dried in a two-stage heat pump dryer capable of producing stepwise control of the inlet drying air temperature while keeping absolute humidity constant. Two stepwise air temperature profiles were tested. The incremental temperature step change in temperature of the drying air about the mean air temperature of 30 $^{\circ}C$ was 5 $^{\circ}C$. The total drying time for each temperature-time profile was about 300 minutes. The drying kinetics and color change of the products dried under these stepwise variation of the inlet air temperature were measured and compared with constant air temperature drying. The stepwise air temperature variation was found to yield better quality product in terms of color of the dried product. Further, it was found that by employing a step-down temperature profile, it was possible to reduce the drying time to reach the desired moisture content.

  • An experiment using preheated air in the coaxial diffusion flame burner was carried out in order to decrease NOx emission and improve the thermal efficiency. Preheated air combustion generally produces high NOx emissions but it was known very well to reduce NOx emission by diluting the combustion air with inert gas in preheated air combustion. In our study, $N_2$ gas was used for diluent and propane was utilized for fuel. We set the combustion air temperature on 300K, 500K, 700K, 900K and dilution level from 21% to 10% in terms of oxygen concentration. NOx emission increased along increment of combustion air temperature and decreased along increment of dilution level(lowering of oxygen concentration in combustion air). Flame-off limit with dilution level enhanced, flame length became longer and the location of maximum flame temperature became lower with increasing of combustion air temperature.

  • The frosting characteristics on the vertical parallel plates with three cooling plates were experimentally investigated. The experimental parameters were the cooling plate temperature, the air humidity, the air temperature, the air Reynolds number, and the location. The frosting conditions were limited to air temperatures from 10 to $15^{\circ}C$ , air Reynolds numbers from 1600 to 2270, air humidity ratios from 0.00275 to 0.0037kgw/kga and cooling plate temperatures from -10 to $-20^{\circ}C$. Frost growth and density toward the front of the plate were more thick and dense than toward the rear. Frost growth increased with decreasing plate temperature and increasing humidity. In the conditions of the laminar flow, dew point below $0^{\circ}C$and non-cyclic frosting period, frost thickness increased with increasing air temperature. The reason of increasing frost thickness with increasing air temperature was sublimation-ablimation process. The average growth thickness along the locations showed little dependence on the Reynolds numbers.

  • Geothermal energy can be used with a geothermal heat pump or an earth-to-air heat exchange system (EAHES), which is referred to as a "cooling tube" in Korea. In this study, we suggest EAHES burial guidelines in terms of the parameters of buried pipe length and air velocity regarding the exit air temperature of EAHES. The exit air temperature for EAHES in three regions (Changwon, Busan and Seoul) was calculated with variation in buried pipe length and air velocity at ${\Phi}100mm$ and ${\Phi}200mm$. In conclusion, variation in the buried pipe length is more effective than that of air velocity to achieve the required exit air temperature.

  • Temperature and velocity controlling of air at inlet position of Ramjet combustor is important under Ramjet engine grounding-test condition since temperature of inlet air increases due to compression process by supersonic flow at inlet position of Ramjet combustor. In this study, Vitiated Air Heater methodology was used to control temperature of air that is inducted into Ramjet combustor. Temperature and velocity of air at Vitiated air heater exit, which is inducted into Ramjet combustor, were measured to evaluate Vitiated air heater system developed in this study. It is shown that temperature and velocity of inducted air can be well controlled using Vitiated air heater system developed in this study, and we could make a Vitiated Air which is almost same with real air.

  • The laboratory experiments have been conducted to investigate the effects of air preheated temperature on the emission characteristics by a model gas turbine burner with a hybrid/dual swirl jet flames configuration. The concentration of NOx and CO emissions, and flue gas temperature at combustor exit were measured with varying the equivalence ratio for different air preheated temperatures of 300, 400, 500K at atmospheric pressure. It was overall shown that the NOx and CO emissions, and flue gas temperature were decreased according to the decreasing of equivalence ratio due to the effects of lean premixed combustion regardless of the air preheated temperature. Experimental results of a lean premixed flames configuration indicated that the NOx emission was increased with higher inlet air temperature and air flow rate, which is attributed to the increasing of flue gas temperature and heat release related to the thermal NOx mechanism. But the CO emission was shown the opposite tendency, that is, the CO emission was decreased with increasing of inlet air temperature and flow rate.
