  • The unit-water content of concrete is one of the important factors in determining the quality of concrete and is directly related to the durability of the construction structure, and the current method of measuring the unit-water content of concrete is applied by the Air Meta Act and the Electrostatic Capacity Act. However, there are complex and time-consuming problems with measurement methods. Therefore, high frequency moisture sensor was used for quick and high measurement, and unit-water content of mortar was evaluated through machine running and deep running based on measurement big data. The multi-input deep learning model is as accurate as 24.25% higher than the OLS linear regression model, which shows that deep learning can more effectively identify the nonlinear relationship between high-frequency moisture sensor data and unit quantity than linear regression.

  • This study describes the combustion characteristics under various condition of air excess ratio and ignition timing in a 2-valve gasoline optically accessible engine with swirl control valve(SCV). It adapted three different types of SCA(open ration 72.5%, 78%, 89%) to strengthen a swirl flow. Pressure data were acquired using pressure sensor to investigate the effect of swirl flow on combustion, and from these pressure data, IMEP(indicated mean effective pressure) and MFB(mass fraction burnt)were calculated to explain burn rate and flame speed. From acquired flame images, inspected the flame propagation direction, flame area, and flame centroid, Flame propagation direction was shown different tendency between with/without SCV, and flame area with SCV was faster and larger than that of conventional engine. Finally, the representative flame image at each crank angle were acquired by PDF method to verify flame growth process. It is found that strengthened swirl flow is more beneficial for faster and stable combustion.

  • This study identifies Japanese study content on heat stroke prevention measures using clothes, provides basic data for quantitative wearing assessment studies, presents a developmental direction for those, and helps invigorate further research. Studies were collected concerning clothing-based heat stroke measures in order to analyze the following factors: current status of heat stroke by industry and working environment, heat stroke and body cooling method, clothing microclimate and air circulation in a hot environment, hot environments and wearable sensors, and heat stress reduction and skin exposure. The current WBGT standard does not consider the diversity of wearing clothes according to the working environment. Therefore, it is preferable to add a correction value in consideration of design, materials, and ventilation to prevent heat strokes. For the heat stroke and body cooling method, wearing water-perfused clothing is effective to reduce heat stress and maintain exercise ability. Changing the material and design of clothing or wearing air-conditioned clothing can improve ventilation and the clothing microclimate. However, further evaluation is needed on the effectiveness of air-conditioned clothing as a heat stroke prevention product. The measurement method using a wearable sensor can provide real-time data on the body response due to working in a hot environment. Therefore, it is an effective alarm for heat stroke. Skin exposure area and heat dissipation efficiency should be considered to prevent heat stroke. Reducing the covering area by exposing the head, neck, and limbs, and wearing breathable material can prevent heat stroke from increased body temperature.

  • Current measuring methods for air quality are based on ground measurement networks and satellite data. New methods of collecting evidence with advanced sensors are needed because current methods have limitations in collecting evidence for the illegal emission of air pollutants at narrow areas or specific sites. This study analyzed the possibility of using an ultraviolet hyperspectral sensor to measure the concentration of nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide. Two types of spectra were used: simulated spectra for gases with various concentrations using a radiative transfer model and observed spectra for each gas for a concentration. To understand the possibility of using a hyperspectral sensor, the differences between the simulated spectra and the observed spectra were analyzed, and the variation of simulated spectra were then analyzed according to the concentration. The results showed good agreement between observed spectra and simulated spectra. In addition, the absorption depth at specific wavelengths in the simulated spectra had a very strong correlation with the gas concentration. The gas concentration could be estimated using the hyperspectral sensor. In the future, validation would be needed to estimate the gas concentration through observations of various concentrations of gases using a hyperspectral sensor.

  • The 4-20mA analog signal used in the various industrial fields to interface sensor in distributed process control has been replaced with relatively simple digital networks, called "fieldbus, and recently by Ethernet. Significant advances in Internet and computer technology have made it possible to develop an Internet based control, monitoring, and operation scheduling system for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. The seamless integration of data networks with control networks allows access to any control point from anywhere. Field compatible field devices become so-called "smart" devices, capable of executing simple control, diagnostic and maintenance functions and providing bidirectional serial communication to higher level controller. The most important HVAC of BAS has received nationwide attention because of higher portion of more than 40% in building sector energy use and limited resources. This paper presents the Internet-based monitoring and control architecture and development of LonWorks control modules for AHU (air handling units) of HVAC in viewpoint of configuring BAS network. This article addresses issues in architecture section, electronics, embedded processors and software, and internet technologies.

  • Recently, Air pollution is gradually increasing which are coming from the exhaust of the ICE vehicles in the world. ICE vehicle exhaust gas and $CO_2$ are widely suspected of contributing to the called greenhouse effect, fueling fears of global warming. Therefore, many countries are striving to decrease the vehicle exhaust gas and have developed a variety of policies as air pollution regulation plans. To comply with the regulations, automotive industry has developed hybrid vehicles, which have features of both ICE vehicles and electric vehicles. Hybrid car is eco-friendly and has lowered exhausting gases and improved fuel efficiency. This research has been written to show that break down cases with EGR valve in hybrid cars, steadily increasing in use, and to help with on-site maintenance.

  • In the wireless sensor networks, a sensor node has limited resources such as battery or memory. Hence, the routing protocol used in the wireless sensor networks is required efficient use of resources. In this paper, the VAP(Virtual Address Protocol), ensures the shortest transmission path for data transmission between the sink node and sensor node, is proposed. The VAP is assigned each node virtual address and sub address related with its neighboring nodes. The shortest transmission path to the destination node will be choose by comparing to each other address of its neighboring node. The comparison with other existing routing protocol shows that transmission path and usage of memory resource are minimized. Also transmission delay time of data was reduced.

  • This study aimed to develop an Arduino-based garment pressure device (APD) on the basis of using Single-Tact sensor by suggesting the reliable clothing pressure range and coefficient of selected sensors through the APD calibration process. Once the APD was validated, the pressure of the experimental men's lower body compression wears was measured using the APD and was compared to the pressure measured using the existing air-pack type pressure meter. The subjects were one mannequin and eight men in their 20's, and the trial compression wears were calf sleeves and pants. Clothing pressures were measured in hip, mid-thigh, calf, and ankle. In terms of the 99% confidence level, the experimental clothing pressure measured at the designated measuring points using the APD was considered identical to the one measured using an existing clothing pressure meter. Therefore, on the basis of the experiment results, this study demonstrated that the APD is as reliable as the existing clothing pressure meter within the pressure ranges of 0.54-16.79 kPa and 0.18-25.47 kPa as provided by the SingleTact sensor supplier's data on the basis of using an external ADC (Analog to Digital Converter) module.

  • Gas identification techniques using pattern recognition methods were developed from four micro-electronic gas sensors for noxious gas mixture analysis. The target gases for the air quality monitoring inside vehicles were two exhaust gases, carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), and two odor gases, ammonia (NH3) and formaldehyde (HCHO). Four MEMS gas sensors with sensing materials of Pd-SnO2 for CO, In2O3 for NOX, Ru-WO3 for NH3, and hybridized SnO2-ZnO material for HCHO were fabricated. In six binary mixed gas systems with oxidizing and reducing gases, the gas sensing behaviors and the sensor responses of these methods were examined for the discrimination of gas species. The gas sensitivity data was extracted and their patterns were determined using principal component analysis (PCA) techniques. The PCA plot results showed good separation among the mixed gas systems, suggesting that the gas mixture tests for noxious gases and their mixtures could be well classified and discriminated changes.

  • This paper designs and implements a smart garden system using probabilistic filter algorithm using SLAM that can be used in apartment or veranda. To do this, we used Arduino and environtal sensors, which are open hardware controllers, and designed to control and observe automatic water supply, lighting, and growth monitoring with three wireless systems (Bluetooth, Ethernet, WiFi). This system has been developed to make it possible to use it in an indoor space such as an apartment, rather than a large-scale cultivation system such as a conventional plant factory which has already been widely used. The developed system collects environmental data by using soil sensor, illuminance sensor, humidity sensor and temperature sensor as well as control through smartphone app, analyzes the collected data, and controls water pump, LED lamp, air ventilation fan and so on. As a wireless remote control method, we implemented Bluetooth, Ethernet and WiFi. Finally, it is designed for users to enable remote control and monitoring when the user is not in the house.
