Environmental factors such as soil moisture, land management, and weather conditions affecting Fusarium wilt of sweet potato were investigated in major sweet potato cultivation regions in Korea. Fusarium wilt occurred mainly in reclaimed terracing lands, which are flattened and located in hilly to mountainous areas at the base of the mountain, in early seasonal cultivation regions. Disease severity was lower in reclaimed fields with natural slope. The development of Fusarium wilt in the fields was highly correlated with precipitation during planting period (r=-0.96**). Fusarium wilt was more severe in fields with less than 20 cm of available soil depth than in fields with over 20 cm of available soil depth. Greenhouse studies were consistent with field studies that less soil moisture content caused severe Fusarium wilt of sweet potato. These results indicate that low rainfall and moisture of soil with low effective soil depth during planting period are important environmental factors influencing the development of Fusarium wilt.

Air temperature has increased, while sunshine hour has decreased during the grain filling period of most rice cultivars (August to September) during the past 12 years from 2001 through 2012 in Korea. Climatic Productivity Index (CPI) has fallen because of the decreased sunshine hour and increased air temperature during the grain filling period, and the degree of reduction was greater with earlier heading. For stable rice production, we will need to delay the heading of rice as a cultivation measure against the future climatic trend. Grain yield showed no significant trend for past 12 years. However, the year to year change in grain yield showed a similliar pattern with that of CPI. Especially, a linear function relating rice yield to CPI explained approximately 63% of variation in grain yield with the heading date of August $11^{th}$ period.

'Heukhyang', a new variety with dark brown color, short cultivaltion period, and good taste in Flammulina velutipes, was bred by crossing between monokaryons isolated from 'Garlmoe' and wild strain 'CBMFV-10'. In bottle cultivation, the period of mycelial growth, primordia1 formation, and growth of fruit body was required 23 days, 6 days, and 17 days, respectively. Total culvivation period was 46 days, showing 8 days shorter than that of 'Garlmoe'. Pileus diameter and thickness were greater than those of 'Garlmoe', and pileus color showed dark brown. Fruit body production per 850 ml bottle was 135 g, which was 10% lower than that of 'Garlmoe'. However, the overall acceptance was most excellent in sensory evaluation, and 'Heukhyang' has an advantage to target a niche market of white ones due to differentiated color and taste.
This experiment was conducted in Suwon and Iksan city from 2012 to 2014 to evaluate soil erosion and nutrient loss from irrigated paddy fields during cropping period. Rainfall amount and rainfall erosivity of $EI_{30}$ were, on average, 1,026 mm and $3,922mm\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}hr^{-1}$ for the cropping period, respectively, and the rainfall event with maximum $EI_{30}$ occurred in July. Annual average of runoff was $2,508MT\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ in Suwon and $3,375MT\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ in Iksan, accounting for 36% of rainfall of the cropping period. Nutrient loss by runoff, on average, was $7.0kg\;N\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$, $1.3kg\;P\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$, and $16.6kg\;K\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$; N, P, and K loss were 5.0, 0.6, and $8.3kg\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$, respectively, in Suwon and 8.9, 1.9, and $16.7kg\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ in Iksan. Soil loss in Korean paddy rice was evaluated as $0.33MT\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ ranging from $0.05MT\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ to $0.88MT\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$. Amount of soil loss, however, depended on areas and year influenced by variation of rainfall amount and intensity. Interestingly, soil erosion in Iksan in 2012 was remarkably greater than those in other periods due to heavy rainfall between late May and June with soil flake dispersion right after the rice-planting season.
This study was examined the level of satisfaction in rural settlement and analyzed its differences according to various demographic variables and characteristics of urban-rural migration. The analysis was conducted by considering returning farmers residing in rural areas. A statistical analysis was conducted using t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Duncan's multiple-range test with a total of 210 responses. First, satisfaction with the convenience of living facilities varied significantly according to the occupation before urban-rural migration, responses of family members and friends to urban-rural migration, and the initial capital for urban-rural migration. Second, satisfaction with the natural environment varied significantly according to age and reasons for urban-rural migration. Third, satisfaction with the transportation environment varied significantly according to gender, the period of residence after urban-rural migration, and the employment type of the returning farmer. Fourth, satisfaction with neighborliness varied significantly according to parents' occupation, agricultural experience before urban-rural migration, experience in agriculture-related social life before urban-rural migration, reasons for urban-rural migration, the type of urban-rural migration, and the employment type of the returning farmer. Fifth, satisfaction with the agricultural environment varied significantly according to responses of family members and friends to urban-rural migration, the period of residence after urban-rural migration, and reasons for urban-rural migration. Sixth, satisfaction with the housing environment varied significantly according to the residential area, the agricultural experience before urban-rural migration, and the period of residence after urban-rural migration.

This study was conducted to investigate the growth and flowering of African marigold (Tagetes erecta L.) and salvia (Salvia splendens F. Sello ex Ruem & Schult.) seedlings before and after storage under fluorescent lamps and green LED radiation conditions with different light intensities during storage. The both seedlings were kept under a storage room controlled at $8^{\circ}C$ air temperature and $40{\pm}10%$ relative humidity conditions. Light intensities were maintained at 15 and $30{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ during storage. In lighting treatments, dry weight of African marigold at 28 days after storage was not significantly different, and decreased approximately 29% compared to pre-storage under dark treatment. There was no significant difference in the leaf area of salvia seedlings stored under dark condition compared to before storage, but the leaf area under green light radiation with higher light intensity (treatment GH) was two times greater than before storage. The survival rate after transplanting of African marigold stored under dark condition was 10%, and days to flowering increased compared to those stored under fluorescent and green light with higher light intensity (treatment FLH, GH). Comparing to before storage, growth and flowering of the both seedlings after storage were significantly promoted by the light exposure during storage. The present experimental results show that the light intensity should be decided to maintain minimum growth during lighting storage and storage quality of the seedlings such as flowering promotion and extended blooming period after lighting treatment during storage period from the above results.
Analysis of water quality distribution is very important for river water quality management. Recently, various studies have been conducted on the analysis of water quality distribution according to reduction methods of nonpoint pollutant. The objective of this study was to select the probability distributions of water quality constituents (T-N, T-P, COD, SS) according to the farming forms (control, slow release fertilizer, water depth control) during non-storm period in the paddy fields. The field monitoring was conducted monitoring site located in Baeksan-myun, Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do, Korea during non-storm period from May to September in 2016. Our results showed that there were no differences in water quality among three different farming forms, except for SS of control and water depth control. K-S method was used to analyzed the probability distributions of T-N, T-P, COD and SS concentrations discharged from paddy fields. As a results of the fitness analysis, T-N was not suitable for the normal probability distribution in the slow release fertilizer treatment, and the log-normal probability distribution was not suitable for the T-P in control treatment. The gamma probability distribution showed that T-N and T-P in control and slow release fertilizer treatment were not suitable. The Weibull probability distribution was found to be suitable for all water quality constituents of control, slow release fertilizer, and water depth control treatments. However, our results presented some differences from previous studies. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the characteristics of pollutants flowing out in difference periods according to various farming types. The result of this study can help to understand the water quality characteristics of the river.

Growth monitoring of highland Kimchi cabbage is very important to respond the fluctuations in supply and demand from middle of August to early September in Korea. For evaluating Kimchi cabbage growth, it needs to classify the transplanting period of Kimchi cabbage, preferentially. This study was conducted to estimate the transplanting period of highland Kimchi cabbage from 2015 to 2016 in the main production area of highland Kimchi cabbage, Anbandegi, Maebongsan, and Gwinemi. Correlation between NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) from UAV images and days after transplanting of Kimchi cabbage was high in early transplanting period. But because the growth curve of Kimchi cabbage showed S-type, joint use of multi-temporal linear regression equation for estimation of transplanting period was more suitable. Using application of these equations at Anbandegi, Maebongsan, and Gwinemi, we made the map of transplanting periods of highland Kimchi cabbage. Generally, highland Kimchi cabbage is harvested in sixty days later since transplanting. As a result, we could estimate the harvest time and area of highland Kimchi cabbage.

The Chinese windmill butterfly, Atrophaneura alcinous, is an important butterfly for exhibition in butterfly garden. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of temperature on A. alcinous in the laboratory. Development of A. alcinous reared on leaves of Aristolochia contorta was investigated at five constant the laboratory condition (20, 22.5, 25, 27.5 and $30^{\circ}C$) and at relative humidity of 60% with a photoperiod of 14:10 (L:D). Temperatures have been suggested as an important determinant of developmental rate, lifespan and mortality in invertebrates. As the temperature increased, the length of the developmental period gradually decreased. The developmental time (pupation) from egg hatching to pupation was respectively 25.8, 23.6, 19.6, 15.5, and 12.9 days at the temperatures of 20, 22.5, 25, 27.5 and $30^{\circ}C$. And pupation was respectively 40.0, 30.0, 63.4, 50.0, 23.3% at the temperatures of 20, 22.5, 25, 27.5 and $30^{\circ}C$. The developmental threshold temperature estimated for egg-to-pupae was 10.8, with a thermal constant of 230.4 degree-days. Therefore, the optimal developmental temperature for A. alninous was determined to be $25^{\circ}C$. To compare the effects of the total duration of chilling on the termination of diapause, larvae were subjected to a temperature of $8^{\circ}C$ from 60 to 120 days. The rate of termination of diapause was significantly higher at 60 days compared to other incubation period.

The global rise in atmospheric $CO_2$ concentration and its associated climate change have significant effects on agricultural productivity and hydrological cycle. For food security and agricultural water resources planning, it is critical to investigate the impact of climate change on changes in agricultural productivity and water consumption. APEX-Paddy model, which is the modified version of APEX (Agricultural Policy/Environmental eXtender) model for paddy ecosystem, was used to evaluate rice productivity and evapotranspiration based on climate change scenario. Two study areas (Gimjae, Icheon) were selected and the input dataset was obtained from the literature. RCP (Representitive Concentration Pathways) based climate change scenarios were provided by KMA (Korean Meteorological Administration). Rice yield data from 1997 to 2015 were used to validate APEX-Paddy model. The effects of climate change were evaluated at a 30-year interval, such as the 1990s (historical, 1976~2005), the 2025s (2011~2040), the 2055s (2041~2070), and the 2085s (2071~2100). Climate change scenarios showed that the overall evapotranspiration in the 2085s reduced from 10.5 % to 16.3 %. The evaporations were reduced from 15.6 % to 21.7 % due to shortend growth period, the transpirations were reduced from 0.0% to 24.2 % due to increased $CO_2$ concentration and shortend growth period. In case of rice yield, in the 2085s were reduced from 6.0% to 25.0 % compared with the ones in the 1990s. The findings of this study would play a significant role as the basics for evaluating the vulnerability of paddy rice productivity and water management plan against climate change.
