Performances of Farm Management Consulting Project (농가경영컨설팅 추진현황과 성과)

  • The consulting industry had enjoyed growth rates over the past 20 years which show no signs of slowing in their momentum. Since 1995, it began to discuss institutionalization of consulting in the agricultural sector in Korea. Rural Development Adminstration has launched farm management consulting project by means of benchmarking for farming innovation in 1988, which consists of establishing consulting team, developing standard diagnosis form of sixty crops and materials, training consultants, having various public relations, and making information systems. Until October, 2001, sixty seven thousands of farmers have benefited on this project. It is now appreciated as a alternative for new agricultural extension approach. Analyzing the changes of farm management practice level through consulting shows improvement, which data have been stored in web database. It is expected that farm management consulting project be main stream of agricultural extension in this country.

Recent advances in feed and nutrition of beef cattle in China - A review

  • The beef cattle industry in China has advanced remarkably since its reform and opening up; consequently, China has become the world's third-largest beef cattle producer. China is also one of the countries with the most substantial research input and output in the field of beef cattle feed and nutrition. The progress and innovation by China in the research field of beef cattle feed and nutrition have undoubtedly promoted the development of the domestic beef cattle industry. This review summarizes recent advances in feed resource development, nutrient requirements, and nutritional regulation of beef cattle in China. Limitations in current research and perspectives on future work are also discussed.

Dietary corn resistant starch regulates intestinal morphology and barrier functions by activating the Notch signaling pathway of broilers

  • Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary corn resistant starch (RS) on the intestinal morphology and barrier functions of broilers. Methods: A total of 320 one-day-old broilers were randomly allocated to 5 dietary treatments: one normal corn-soybean (NC) diet, one corn-soybean-based diet supplementation with 20% corn starch (CS), and 3 corn-soybean-based diets supplementation with 4%, 8%, and 12% corn resistant starch (RS) (identified as 4% RS, 8% RS, and 12% RS, respectively). Each group had eight replicates with eight broilers per replicate. After 21 days feeding, one bird with a body weight (BW) close to the average BW of their replicate was selected and slaughtered. The samples of duodenum, jejunum, ileum, caecum digesta, and blood were collected. Results: Birds fed 4% RS, 8% RS and 12% RS diets showed lower feed intake, BW gain, jejunal villus height (VH), duodenal crypt depth (CD), jejunal VH/CD ratio, duodenal goblet cell density as well as mucin1 mRNA expressions compared to the NC group, but showed higher concentrations of cecal acetic acid and butyric acid, percentage of jejunal proliferating cell nuclear antigen-positive cells and delta like canonical Notch ligand 4 (Dll4), and hes family bHLH transcription factor 1 mRNA expressions. However, there were no differences on the plasma diamine oxidase activity and D-lactic acid concentration among all groups. Conclusion: These findings suggested that RS could suppress intestinal morphology and barrier functions by activating Notch pathway and inhibiting the development of goblet cells, resulting in decreased mucins and tight junction mRNA expression.

Modification of Substrate and Fermentation Process to Increase Mass and Customize Physical Properties of Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus and Limosilactobacillus fermentum Exopolysaccharides in Kefir Grain

  • The microbial starter used to produce kefir beverages, kefir grain, contains a microbial exopolysaccharide called kefiran. Kefir grain consisting of water-insoluble polysaccharides, proteins, and fats, which can be applied as a multi-functional biopolymer. The mass of kefir grain can increase in the fermentation process of Kefir, but it is considered very slow. The purpose of this research is to study the impact of ammonium sulfate supplementation and yeast extract on reconstituted skim milk to increase the mass kefir grain and physical properties of kefiran. Results showed that the ammonium sulfate-supplemented substrate increased the mass of kefir grain by 547% in 14 days, with the condition that the substrate must be renewed every 2 days. Refreshing the substrate is considered one of the important factors. Supplementation on substrate did not appear to affect the viability of bacterial and yeast cells. Kefir grain produced from supplemented substrate also yields better thermal stability properties and has more functional groups than without supplementation. Two Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus (RAL27 and RAL43) and one Limosilactobacillus fermentum (RAL29) were found to produce EPS. The three isolates also showed good skim milk fermentation ability after purification from kefir grain. The kefir grain produced in this study has the potential for wider application. This study also showed that kefir grain can be adjusted in quantity and quality through fermentation substrate engineering.

Coordinated Development of Agricultural Insurance, Agricultural Loans, and the Agricultural Industry in China

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between agricultural insurance, agricultural loans, and the agricultural industry and find ways to consolidate and improve the interactive development between these three systems. We collected relevant data from 2009 to 2019 in 15 provinces of China and constructed a coupled coordination model to analyze the data. The results are as follows: First, the eastern part of China was ahead of the central and western parts in terms of agricultural loans and the agricultural industry, while the western part was ahead of the central and eastern parts in terms of agricultural insurance. Second, the coupling degree of the three systems in all 15 provinces reached an extremely high level. Third, all 15 provinces showed an overall continuous rise in coupling coordination degree. In 2019, eight provinces reached the medium-level coupling coordination development, and seven provinces were in a state of barely coupling coordination development. The three systems formed a mutually reinforcing relationship and basically entered a state of coordinated development. Finally, there was a great development gap between different regions of China concerning the coordinated development of the three systems, therefore, innovative development is urgently needed to further promote the coordinated development level.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose agenda concerning the direction of agricultural science convergence research and development (R&D) under the fourth industrial revolution. For this study, we apply the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) targeted at experts in the fields of agricultural academia and research operating R&D currently. Results suggest the following agendas; first, human resource training toward future is more emphasized rather than fragmentary technology innovation. Second, a flexible road map for agricultural science R&D need to be made for responding to short and long term issues relevant to the innovation. Third, mutual exchange and cooperative system need to be constructed between academia and research in order to create synergy effects. Finally, both institutional improvement and humanistic literacy should be emphasized for rapidly changing conditions and better human life under the fourth industrial revolution.

생물산업의 기술혁신 패턴 : 특허 분석을 중심으로

  • Bioindustry is rapidly changing. Many biologists redefine biotechnlolgy as 'reprogramming the genetic codes of living things to suit cultural and economic needs and desires.'We regarded this change as the 'paradigm shift'in bioindustry. The genome research is reorganizing agricultural and environmental industries as well as a pharmaceutical industry. By analysing patent data granted in the United States from 1997 to 1999, we tried to explore the international patterns and trends of technological innovation in bioindustry, especially in the genome research. As the result, we could find that the United States'monopolistic position in the bioindustry was consolidated by the genome research. Competitive positions in the countries such as Japan and Germany, however, have been aggravated continuously. Korean inventors weren't also active in many biotechnological areas as comparing to developed countries such as US and UK. Especially, the gaps between Korea and developed countries in genome research were greater than any other areas.

EcoFarmer in Zimbabwe: A New Agricultural Development Phenomenon

  • Purpose - This paper discusses the effectiveness of EcoFarmer in Zimbabwe. The effectiveness of EcoFarmer still needs to be established because it is a new product that is hardly a month old. Research design, data, and methodology - The paper follows a qualitative research methodology and an exploratory approach to establish the effectiveness of EcoFarmer in the promotion of productivity in the agricultural sector in Zimbabwe. Using an Internet-based literature review, the paper explored the link that exists between Econet's EcoFarmer program and agricultural development in Zimbabwe. Results - The findings are that the innovation promotes agricultural productivity. This is in line with what was established by Safaricom Foundation in Kenya. Conclusions - The paper used literature sources because the phenomenon is exploratory. This limitation could have been avoided by using a field survey. The paper shows that the EcoFarmer is an innovative project that was developed by Econet as a replication of the Kenyan program.

Development Issues and Situations of Asan Agriculture (아산 지역농업의 활성화를 위한 추진과제)

  • Asan city has many strengths, for examples, the distinction of innovation ability, several places with clean environmental resources, conventional-cultural resources and favorable conditions of location in regional agriculture development. But it has not devised the comprehensive development plan for regional agriculture that is integrating natural, cultural and industrial resources. So the plan linked with those resources should be to promoted to develop agricultural production, marketing and regional economy. And a development strategy is to have the system of agricultural independence within Asan. Namely, originality, identity and cooperative spirit in economic and social-cultural aspects of Asan agriculture are needed, which are a great help to settle agricultural issues in Asan itself And the governance system needs to be introduced that has the main bodies of Asan agriculture, so as to promote agricultural policy.

A Study on Factors Affecting BigData Acceptance Intention of Agricultural Enterprises (농업 관련 기업의 빅데이터 수용 의도에 미치는 영향요인 연구)

  • At this moment, a paradigm shift is taking place across all sectors of society for the transition movements to the digital economy. Various movements are taking place in the global agricultural industry to achieve innovative growth using big data which is a key resource of the 4th industrial revolution. Although the government is making various attempts to promote the use of big data, the movement of the agricultural industry as a key player in the use of big data, is still insufficient. Therefore, in this study, effects of performance expectations, effort expectations, social impact, facilitation conditions, based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology(UTAUT), and innovation tendencies on the acceptance intention of big data were analyzed using the economic and practical benefits that can be obtained from the use of big data for agricultural-related companies as moderating variables. 333 questionnaires collected from agricultural-related companies were used for empirical analysis. The analysis results using SPSS v22.0 and Process macro v3.4 were found to have a significant positive (+) effect on the intention to accept big data by effort expectations, social impact, facilitation conditions, and innovation tendencies. However, it was found that the effect of performance expectations on acceptance intention was insignificant, with social impact having the greatest influence on acceptance intention and innovation tendency the least. Moderating effects of economic benefit and practical benefit between effort expectation and acceptance intention, moderating effect of practical benefit between social impact and acceptance intention, and moderating effect of economic benefit and practical benefit between facilitation condition and acceptance intention were found to be significant. On the other hand, it was found that economic benefits and practical benefits did not moderate the magnitude of the influence of performance expectations and innovation tendency on acceptance intention. These results suggest the following implications. First, in order to promote the use of big data by companies, the government needs to establish a policy to support the use of big data tailored to companies. Significant results can only be achieved when corporate members form a correct understanding and consensus on the use of big data. Second, it is necessary to establish and implement a platform specialized for agricultural data which can support standardized linkage between diverse agricultural big data, and support for a unified path for data access. Building such a platform will be able to advance the industry by forming an independent cooperative relationship between companies. Finally, the limitations of this study and follow-up tasks are presented.
