For 159 administrative areas, SPI(Standardized Precipitation Index), ARDI(Agricultural Reservoir Drought Index) and ARDIs(Agricultural Reservoir Drought Index Simulated) were developed and applied to analyze the characteristics of agricultural drought index and agricultural droughts. In order to identify hydrometeorological characteristics of agricultural droughts, SPI, ARDI and ARDIs were calculated nationwide, and the applicability was compared and examined. SPI and ARDI showed significant differences in time and depth of drought in both spatial and temporal. ARDI and ARDIs showed similar tendency of change, and ARDIs were considered to be more representative of agricultural drought characteristics. The results of this study suggest that agricultural drought is a problem to be solved in the medium and long term rather than short term due to various forms of development, complexity of development, and difficulty in forecasting. Therefore, it is concluded that a preliminary and systematic approach is needed in consideration of meteorological, hydrological and hydrometeorological characteristics rather than a fragmentary approach, and that an agricultural drought index is needed to quantitatively evaluate agricultural drought.

To improve the driving performance and work efficiency of the multi-purpose agricultural robot, this paper conducted a study on the turning and steering characteristics of the robot platform according to the characteristics of the working machine coupled to the multi-purpose agricultural robot considering the agricultural environment. First, the size and characteristics of the developed multi-purpose agricultural robot platform and working machine, and the targeted field farming work environment are analyzed. And based on this analysis, the problems that arise in multi-purpose robots with conventional turning methods are quantitatively presented. And to overcome this problem, an improved turning and steering method for multi-purpose agricultural robots is proposed considering the characteristics of various workstations and the agricultural working environment. Finally, by applying the proposed method, the turning characteristics of the multi-purpose agricultural robot according to the working machine are analyzed and the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified.

This paper reviewed the legal bases and characteristics of agricultural extension services and organizational changes during the last fifty years in Korea. It was found that the legal bases extension services were rather weak are very important factors affecting agricultural extension services and organizational structures of agricultural extension institutions. It would be necessary to take legal steps to strengthen agricultural extension services by institute legal proceedings the characteristics of extension organization including the relationships among central, provincial and county level extension services, missions and objectives, personnel and facility management.

The purpose of this study was to look at the mediating effect of social support and interests on the relationship between characteristics of agricultural education program and word of mouth intentions. As a results of analysis of structural model, first, social support had a mediating effect on the relationship between characteristics of agricultural education program and word of mouth intentions. Second, interests had a mediating effect on the relationship between characteristics of agricultural education program and word of mouth intentions. The results highlight the importance of promoting social support and individuals' interests on the agricultural education program to increase the word of intention for agricultural education program. This eventually leads the revitalization and development of agricultural education.

The objectives of this study are to analyze the producer's behaviors and characteristics of environmentally friendly agricultural products(organic agricultural products and non-chemicals agricultural products, low-chemicals agricultural products excluded). Firstly the present situation of environmentally-friendly agriculture is analyzed. Secondly the producer's behavior and attitude is analyzed tabularly and the social and economic characteristics of producers is analyzed by logit model with thc results of sample surveys on 341 farmers who have been producing quality-certificated environmentally friendly agricultural products. Thirdly based on the results of this study, problems and alternatives means in order to activate production of environmentally friendly agricultural products are finded and showed.

This study aims to classify agricultural entrepreneurship preparation patterns for middle-aged adults and to explore their demographic characteristics, occupational characteristics, and agricultural entrepreneurship related variables. The result of the study follows: first, agricultural entrepreneurship preparation patterns were divided into three types of urban-born farming, rural-born farming, retirement farming. Second, these patterns showed significant differences according to the level of demographic and occupational characteristics. Third, these patterns also showed considerable differences depending on the level of agricultural entrepreneurship expectancies, agricultural entrepreneurship volition, and agricultural entrepreneurship barriers. Based on the results, diversified agricultural entrepreneurship education programs and support measures were suggested.

The purpose of this study is to identify the agricultural management characteristics of young farmers and to analyze the factors affecting the sales of agricultural products of young farmers. For the analysis, variables related to characteristics of agricultural managers and farm management were used, and cross tabulation analysis and multinomial logistic models were applied. The results show that young farmers have the advantages of high education attainment, high income, crop selection, large size of farmland and high utilization rate of information technology. However, the low rate of specialized farming, passive participation in producer organizations, and low availability of agricultural machinery can be disadvantages. Reflecting the characteristics of young farmers, policies should be established to make use of their strengths and to make up for their weaknesses.

Meat derived from skeletal muscles of animals is a highly nutritious type of food, and different meat types differ in nutritional, sensory, and quality properties. This study was conducted to compare the results of previous studies on the muscle fiber characteristics of major porcine skeletal muscles to the end of providing basic data for understanding differences in physicochemical and nutritional properties between different porcine muscle types (or meat cuts). Specifically, the muscle fiber characteristics between 19 major porcine skeletal muscles were compared. The muscle fibers that constitute porcine skeletal muscle can be classified into several types based on their contractile and metabolic characteristics. In addition, the muscle fiber characteristics, including size, composition, and density, of each muscle type were investigated and a technology based on these muscle fiber characteristics for improving meat quality or preventing quality deterioration was briefly discussed. This comparative review revealed that differences in muscle fiber characteristics are primarily responsible for the differences in quality between pork cuts (muscle types) and also suggested that data on muscle fiber characteristics can be used to develop optimal meat storage and packaging technologies for each meat cut (or muscle type).

A research was made to describe the characteristics of alpine agricultural areas in Hongcheon, Pyeongchang and Jeongsun municipalities that comprise large alpine belts. Analysis of current land-use status, pattern classification of agricultural areas, and land-use suitability evaluation were made to describe the characteristics using GIS.

The purpose of this study was to find out the nationwide general characteristics and housing environments of agricultural households and the differences of them by Eup-Myun Areas. The data were subsample of the 2008 survey on the rural living indicators collected by the rural development administration. Only agricultural households, 73.7% of the original nationwide data (1,461 households out of 1,983) sampled by multi-stage stratified clustering methods and face to face interview in Aug. 2008, were selected and the cross-tabulation(X2) was mainly used to find the difference by Eup Myun areas through spss 12.0 for window. The results showed that the general characteristics of agricultural households such as head of household, family, and economic characteristics were mainly differed by Eup Myun Areas. Agricultural households in Eup area were more likely low in the general characteristics than were those in Myun area. Housing environments were less likely than the general characteristics differed by Eup Myun areas. Improvements of drinking water system, housing alteration, oder, and garbage system were needed to increase the satisfaction with residential environments of agricultural households. This study suggests the use of annual survey on the rural living indicators data would be applicable to various research subjects of home economics.
