PURPOSES: Simulation of aggregate slump test using equivalent sphere particle in DEM and its validity evaluation against lab aggregate slump test METHODS : In this research, aggregate slump tests are performed and compared with DEM simulation. To utilize spheric particles in YADE, equivalent sphere diameter concept is applied. As verification measures, the volume in slump cone filled with aggregate is used and it is compared with volume in slump cone filled with equivalent sphere particle. Slump height and diameter are also used to evaluate the suggested numerical method with equivalent concept RESULTS : Simulation test results show good agrement with lab test results in terms of loose packing volume, height and diameter of slumped particle clump. CONCLUSIONS : It is concluded that numerical simulation using DEM is applicable to evaluate the effect of aggregate morphological property in loose packing and optimum gradation determination based on the aggregate slump test simulation result.

One of the causes of recent construction site collapses was that the compressive strength of concrete was less than half of the allowable design standard strength range. In the safety diagnosis of structures, the compressive strength of concrete is a factor that determines the durability of a building. Therefore, in this study, we aim to examine the characteristics of compressive strength according to the particle size distribution of coarse aggregate among the compressive strength factors using small-diameter cores. To avoid problems when collecting cores, core specimens with diameters of 100×200, 50×100, and 25×50 (mm) were manufactured directly. As a result of measuring the compressive strength of concrete for each diameter, the larger the core diameter, the higher the compressive strength. has increased.
For the manufacturing lightweight fine aggregate, clay and waste material was formed by pelletizer. The fine aggregate of 1-5 mm diameter was formed by diameter 76 cm pelletizer disc. Pelletization variables were : (1) pelletizer disc angle, (2) speed of revolution of pelletizer, (3) added pelletization time. Green and sintered aggregate were measured specific gravity, absorption rate and average size. The optimum condition were found that the pelletization variables were angle at $70^{\circ}$, speed of revolution of pelletizer at 23.2 rpm, and water/solid ratio at 1/5. At these conditions, it was formed that fine aggregate green whose average size was $2.0{\sim}3.35mm$. Specific gravity and average size are increased with low angle of disc and fast revolution speed of disc. Specific gravity and average size were not distinctly influenced by added pelletization time. Sintered aggregate was distinctly influenced by properties of green.

In this study, I examined hardening and non-hardening of the DFRCC (Ductile Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composites) according to maximum size of coarse aggregate and the diameter of PVA (Poly Vinyl Alcohol) to develope PVA fiber reinforced concrete with the feature of DFRCC. As a result of this study, the fresh properties is similar regardless of maximum size of coarse aggregate. The bending stress and bending stress-displacement of DFRC showed big differences according to maximum size of coarse aggregate and diameter.

Rammed Aggregate Pier method is intermediate foundation of deep and shallow foundation, it has been built on world wide. But the investigation and research in domestic is not accomplished. In this paper, examined details of different spacing of piles, bearing capacities, respectively, conclude with recommendations on how RAP can be used in future needs. This documentation further provides comparisons of the laboratory test results which were obtained from differenciate the spacing of piles, namely installed rammed aggregate pier. Strain control test was conducted to determine the bearing capacities of the piers; 20mm, 30mm and 40mm diameter drilling equipment to drill holes were installed in sand at initial relative densities of 40%. By comparing different spacing of piles, in this experiment, piles are spaced structually span, form a ring shape, narrowing the distance of each other, to the center. the result shows that as diameter of pier is bigger in diameter, bearing capacity also dramatically increased due to raised stiffness. Also, the space between each piers narrowed, settlement rate of soil was decreased significantly. From the test results, as the space between each piles were getting closer, allows greater chances to have resistance to deformation, shows improved stability of structures.

Shape conversion coefficient and equivalent diameter for changing 2D image to 3D image by the Digital Image Process(DIP) have been suggested and modified particle size distribution curve has been showed. Couple of aggregates, like two different marine aggregates and two different crushed stones, have been employed. The measured flatness ratios of each aggregate were 0.30, 0.36, 0.47 and 0.83, respectively. Also, the conversion shape coefficients of each aggregate were determinded as 0.77, 0.78, 0.84 and 0.92. The size of aggregate has been modified by multiplying the shape conversion coefficient and the aggregate size from DIP. The modified gradation curve with modified volume and weight of aggregate has been suggested. Within the limited test results, DIP is one of useful to get the particle shape of aggregate with limitation of measuring errors and to apply the particle distribution curve.
The objectives of this study were to investigate the aggregate fragmentation in wet-sieving and to evaluate the relationship between the aggregate fragmentation fractal dimension and macro-porosity of upland soils, using three different textural types of soils including Gopyeng series (Fine, Typic Hapludalfs), Gyuam series (Fine silty over coarse silty, Fluvaquentic Eutrudepts), and Jungdong series (Coarse loamy, Typic Udifluvents) located in Gyeonggi province. Undisturbed soil samples with five replicates were seasonally sampled and used for measuring water stable aggregate, macropores, and physico-chemical properties of soils. The aggregate stability in wet-sieving was digitalized as three types of fragmentation fractal dimension ($D_f$), geometric mean diameter (GMD), and mean weight diameter (MWD). $D_f$ had higher correlation with GMD than with MWD. Seasonal aggregate stability showed the highest values in summer, and decreased in the order of spring and autumn. The macroporosity had higher in topsoil, in autumn, and in ridge, than in plow pan layer, in summer, and in row, respectively. The relationship between $D_f$ and macroporosity, especially more than 99 m, showed high correlation only in soils with $D_f$ less than 3.1, which means more aggregated soils compared to soils with $D_f$ more than 3.1. Besides, in the soils with the fractal dimension less than 3.1, the power function relation between saturated hydraulic conductivity and macroporosity more than 99 m had relatively high determinant coefficient, and vice versa. Therefore, it could be thought that fragmentation fractal dimension is available for confirming macroporosity induced from aggregation.
This paper aims to study the local bond stress-slip behavior of reinforcing bars embedded in lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC). The experimental variables of the local bond stress-slip tests include concrete strength (20, 40 and 60 MPa), deformed steel bar size (#4, #6 and #8) and coarse aggregate (normal weight aggregate, reservoir sludge lightweight aggregate and waterworks sludge lightweight aggregate). The test results show that the ultimate bond strength increased with the increase of concrete compressive strength. Moreover, the larger the rib height to the diameter ratio ($h/d_b$) of the deformed steel bars is, the greater the ultimate bond stress is. In addition, the suggestion value of the CEB-FIP Model Code to the LWAC specimen's ultimate bond stress is more conservative than that of the normal weight concrete.
Average aggregate size in particulate suspensions is estimated with scaling theories based on fractal concept and elasticity of colloidal gel. The scaling theories are used to determine structure parameters of the aggregates, i.e., fractal dimension and power-law exponent for aggregate size reduction with shear stress using scaling behavior of elastic modulus and shear yield stress as a function of particle concentration. The structure parameters are utilized to predict aggregate size which varies with shear stress through rheological modeling. Experimentally rheological measurement is conducted for aqueous suspension of zinc oxide particles with average diameter of 110 nm. The predicted aggregate size is about 1135 nm at 1 s-1 and 739 nm at 1000 s-1 on the average over the particle concentrations. It has been found that the predicted aggregate size near 0.1 s-1 agrees with that the measured one by a dynamic light scattering analyzer operated un-sheared.
This paper presents behavior of concrete pavement at transverse joint subject to static test load. The test was conducted on 1/10 scale model in the laboratory. Load transfer across the crack is developed either by the interlocking action of the aggregate particles at the faces of the joint or by a combination of aggregate interlock and mechanical devices such as dowel bars. In this study, significant three variables considered to the performance of joints were selected. : (a)diameter of dowel bars(2.5mm, 3.0mm, 4.0mm), (b)presence or absence of dowel bars, (c)aggregate types(crushed stone, round stone). Experimental results were analyzed to find relationships among displacement of discontinuous plane at jointed slab, load transfer efficiency and joint opening, etc. Displacement of discontinuous plane at joint was decreased according to the increase of dowel bar diameter. In addition, it is found that model slabs made using crushed stone had better load transfer characteristics by aggregate interlock than model slabs made using similarly graded round stone. Displacement of discontinuous plane was increased according to the increase of loading. In addition, it was decreased as dowel diameter(2.5mm, 3.0mm, 4.0mm) was increased. In the case of slab without dowel bars, displacement of discontinuous plane was greatly increased and load transfer effciency of slab applied crushed stone was shown 30 percent greater than round stone. In addition, load transfer efficiency of slabs, which were made using crushed and round stone without dowel bars, was decreased to 20 percent and 30 percent, respectively as it was compared with slabs made us-ing dowel bars.
