  • The purpose of this study was to investigate nutrients intakes and nutritional quality of Adults and Elderly People in an island area (Wando). A three-day dietary intakes survey, using a 24 hour recall method was obtained from 187 subjects aged 46 to 84 (mean age 65.3) living in an island area (Wando). Nutient intakes were analyzed using CAN-Pro soft program and compared to Korean RDA. The quality of nutrients was assessed by analyzing nutrient adequacy ratio (NAR), mean adequacy ratio (MAR), and index of nutritional quality (INQ). The average daily mean energy intakes were 1869.0 kcal for males and 1943.9 kcal for females, respectively. Daily intakes of protein for males and females were 28.0 and 30.4 g and those of fat were 31.5 and 28.51 g, respectively. Nutrient consumed below $75\%$ of Korean RDA was protein, vitamin A, Ca and Zn in both males and females. Average CPF ratio of males and females were 78.8 : 6.0 : 15.1 and 80.0 : 6.4 13.4, respectively. Energy intake ratio from protein was significantly higher in over 60 years males. Carbohydrate dependency decreased with age. Protein dependency increased with age. Nutrient adequacy ratio (NAR) of energy, protein vitamin A and vitamin E were increased with age in males. The mean adequacy ratio (MAR), an index of overall dietary quality, were not significantly different by age group. Average MAR for males and females was 0.77 and 0.78, respectively. The index of nutritional quality (INQ) showed the tendency to decrease with age. Especially, there were significantly decreases in INQ of all nutrients, except protein, with age. Based on these results, it is evident that people in the island area did not consume enough nutrients. Specially, dietary intake of protein, vitamin A, vitamin E, and Ca were not adequate. • The effects of age and dietary fatty acid composition on lipid metabolism were investigated in Sprague-Dawley strain male rats. These animals weighing 88.6$\pm$2.2g were fed 10% dietary fat(W/W, 20% of total energy) with 0.5, 1, 2 P/S ratio and in each P/S ratio there were three different levels of n-6/n-3 fatty acid ratio ; 2, 4, 8. The experimental period was 1 month, 6 months and 12 months. The results of this study were as follows. The body weight of rats increased rapidly for the first two months, then increased slowly until 7 to 8 months. After 10 months of dietary regimen their weight decreased. The weight of liver, kidney and epidydimal fat pad increased along with the body weight and then decreased in the 12 months. Plasma total lipid increased with age and it decreased significantly when P/S ratio of dietary fatty acid was high. In creased with age and it decreased significantly when P/S ratio of dietary fatty acid was high. In creasing n-3 fatty acid intake in each P/S ratio resulted in lower plasma total lipid although was not statistically significant. The amount of plasma total cholesterol increased at 6 months, but decreased at 12 months. In case of 1, 12 months, increasing P/S ratio significantly plasma total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol were decreased and hepatic cholesterol was increased, VLDL-HDL-cholesterol did not changed. The n-6/n-3 ratio did not affect any of theses. The amount of plasma triglyceride and VLDL-triglyceride increased at 6 month then decreased. When the rats consumed higher amount of n-3 fatty acid in each P/S ratio, their plasma triglyceride and hepatic triglyceride increased at 1, 12months.

  • The incidence data (1991. 7. 1$\sim$1992. 6. 30) from the Implementation Study of Seoul Cancer Registry (ISSCR) were evaluated in terms of its completeness and validity. Two indicators for the completeness, Mortality/Incidence ratio (M/I ratio) and Age-specific Incidence Curve, showed fairy good registration throughout the age-sex specific strata, except the strata aged over 75 years old. The strata had very high M/I ratio (over 100%) and decreasing pattern of incidence, which suggested incomplete registration of cancer in this group. The active surveillance by a ISSCR staff improved the registration rate especially among elderlies. From the site specific M/I ratio, we found that liver cancer had oddly high M/I ratio. Since this high M/I ratio of liver cancer appears consistently in other reliable cancer registries, it is more like to be due to the high fatality of it rather than incomplete registration. The validity of the incidence data was assessed by three indicators; Histological Verification (HV%), Primary Site Unknown (PSU%), and Age Unknown (Age UNK%). The average HV% were 77% for men and 85% for women, which were slightly lower than those of other reliable cancer registries. This low HV% might be due to the considerable size of relative frequency of liver cancer in Korea, regarding the fact that the diagnosis of liver cancer is made mostly by non-biopsical radiologic methods (CT, Ultrasono, Angiography, MRI etc.). The level of PSU% and Age UNK% were in acceptable range, but not low enough, especially in terms of Age UNK%. Although ISSCR data had acceptable quality in general, it is needed to have more hospitals participate in the registry surveillance, to make registery data merged with death certificate data regulary, and educate the registration stans to be more competent and dedicated.

  • This study attempted to examine a theoretical framework which synthesizes risk attitude, type of investment management and investment behavior and to provide the specific investment strategy by analysing several variables which have effect upon the investment behavior. The results of this research were as follow : 1. Risk attitude had significant differences by the variabels such as age, sex, education, income and debt/asset ratio. Also the type of investment management was influenced significantly by the variables such as age, education, occupation, income, total asset, debt/asset ratio, achievement motivation and risk attitude. The ratio of risky asset holdings was affected by the variabels such as age, education, occupation, housing ownership, income, total asset, debt/asset ratio, achievement motivation, risk attitude and type of investment management. 2. Among several variables affecting the ratio of risky asset holding risk attitude, education, type of investment management, debt/asset ratio and achievement motivation had direct effect on it. Besides age had indirect effect through risk attitude and age, achievement motivation and risk attitude had indirect effect through the type of investment management. 3. The results of this study showed that causal relation between input, throughput and output can be applied to household's investment behavior and the concept of risk or risk attitude can be applied to other fields except household's investment. Also it could be attributed to provide the investment strategy for improving level of household's financial well-being.

  • This study analyzes the difference in the awareness of Korean Unification among age groups based on survey data. It is verified by statistical model analyses that the ratio of agreement for Korean Unification increases with the age growth, but after the highest peak at the age group of 44 ~ 53 years, the ratio of agreement gradually decreases. The statistical model shows that the age group of 44 ~ 53 years old has 2.5 times higher odds of agreement than the age group of 24 ~ 33 years old and the odds of female to male is 0.56. Meanwhile, the ratio of increase in the agreement, aligned with the increasing age groups, shows 4.3 times higher for males than females. The difference in the ratio of agreement in the overall age groups is estimated to be contributed the most by the significant difference in the ratio of agreement for Korean Unification between the young male generation (in their 20s and 30s) and the middle-aged male generation (in their 40s and 50s).

  • This study examined the insolvency likelihood of young debtors from the 2018 Household Financial and Welfare Survey. This study used the Household Default Risk Index (HDRI), which considers the ratio of total debt to total assets (DTA), and a total debt service ratio (DSR) to examine the insolvency level of debtors. The descriptive analyses showed no difference in frequency of households with a high probability of insolvency between those less than 35 years of age and those over 35 years of age. However, the median HDRI value for those less than 35 years of age was higher than those over 35 years of age. The multivariate analyses indicated that educational expenses for young Korean debtors was a factor that increased their probability of insolvency, while income was the only variable that decreased their insolvency likelihood.

  • This study was carried out to investigate change of ginsenoside contents according to tissue ratio in ginseng root by age and diameter. The epidermis-cortex and xylem-pith extent, fresh weight, dry weight of ginseng increased with the root age increase. They increased higher in xylem-pith than in epidermis-cortex. The ratio of epidermis-cortex decreased and xylem-pith increased as the main root diameter increased. In case of same diameter, the xylem-pith ratio increased by the increase of root age. The epidermis-cortex ratio was 4 > 5 > 6 years, respectively. The total 10 ginsenosides of epidermis- cortex increased with the root age increase. However, the total ginsenoside of xylem-pith decreased and it was 2~5 times lower than epidermis-cortex. The most of ginsenoside contents existed in epidermis-cortex. The diameter decrease in main root is related to the increase of epidermis-cortex ratio. It leads to increase of ginsenoside contents. In order to select high level of ginsenoside cultivar, it suggested that it should be selected main root having narrow diameter and lower epidermis- cortex ratio.

  • In addition to aging social problem, the problem of older age structure ratio in the fire service organization playing the leading role of the disaster response activities is also expected to be this serious situation. In the case of Seoul fire fighting organization, it is expected that the ratio of over the age 50 reaches 31% or 40% between from 10 to 15 years later from now on, but this will be a serious problem in the fire fighting personnel needing a healthy body and physical strength in the disaster situation unlike the civil servants of general staff. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to take measures that can adapt to a new disaster environment of Increasing proportion of the elderly population by presenting the criteria of age limit of fire fighting field activities to analyze the relevance of the ability to perform on-site activities and age of Seoul fire civil servants, by using three analysis criteria.

  • In this study, we considered the characteristic of drying shrinkage from age of high strength concrete with garnet minute powder to be industry by-product. The factors of experiment are unit water content$(160kg/m^3)$, water-binder ratio(30, $35\%$), fine aggregate ratio(40, 42, $44\%$), admixture replacement ratio(0, 10, $20\%$), admixture type(garnet minute powder, fly ash, blast-furnace slag). We make a comparative study of shrinkage about concrete with a passage of age(1, 3, 7, 14, 28, 56, 91 days). As a result of experiment, we reach a conclusion as follow. In the same mix condition, as unit water content and fine aggregate ratio go up, the drying shrinkage ratio increase. In the drying shrinkage ratio according to admixture replacement ratio, it goes up when admixture replacement Ratio increase in case of fly ash and blast-furnace slag. But, drying shrinkage ratio decrease when admixture replacement ratio increase in case of garnet minute powder.
