  • Using high-frequency data for 2 years, this study investigates intraday lead-lag relationship between stock index and stock index futures markets in Korea and China. We found that there are some differences in price discovery and volatility transmission between Korea and China after the stock index futures markets was introduced. Following Stoll-Whaley(1990) and Chan(1992), the multiple regression is estimated to examine the lead-lag patterns between the two markets by Newey-West's(1987) heteroskedasticity and autocorrelation consistent covariance matrix(HAC matrix). Empirical results of KOSPI 200 shows that the futures market leads the cash market and weak evidence that the cash market leads the futures market. New market information disseminates in the futures market before the stock market with index arbitrageurs then stepping in quickly to bring the cost-of-carry relation back into alignment. The regression tests for the conditional volatility which is estimated using EGARCH model do not show that there is a clear pattern of the futures market leading the stock market in terms of the volatility even though controlling nonsynchronous trading effects. This implies that information in price innovations that originate in the futures market is transmitted to the volatility of the cash market. Empirical results of CSI 300 shows that the cash market is found to play a more dominant role in the price discovery process after the Chinese index started a sharp decline immediately after the stock index futures were introduced. The new stock index futures markets does not function well in its price discovery performance at its infancy stage, apparently due to high barriers to entry into this emerging futures markets. Based on EGAECH model, the results uncover strong bi-directional dependence in the intraday volatility of both markets.

  • This paper deals with the relationship between money supply and the stock market. However, unlike past works, it has employed a rational expectation hypothesis and an efficient market hypothesis drawn from new classical macroeconomics and new Keynesian macro-economics, respectively. Accordingly, hypothesis 1 states that if economic subjects have rational expectation, they will immediately respond to a change in money supply. On the other hand, hypothesis 2 supposes that the expectation of economic subjects has changed after the currency crisis. This paper has first identified unit root by using the augmented Dickey-Fuller test and the Phillips-Perron test, then testing both hypotheses by employing the Johansen Procedure and vector error correction model for the periods before and after a currency crisis.

For housing market normalization government announced policies but Korean housing market didn't recover from stagnation. Based on the analysis this research tested the effectiveness of announced policies using System Dynamics. The result showed that the amount of transaction and mortgage loan was influenced by the length of time to draft policies.

After the project was carried out for a certain period of time, a study was conducted to determine the differing opinions of the artists and merchants in regards to the market. The study also examined and analyzed the factors affecting the artists' continuous activities. The difference in recognition perception between artists and merchants was analyzed through a T-test. PLS-regression analysis was used for the artists' continuing intention to work. As a result, the artists and merchants recognized that the number of visitors increased after the influx of artists. Programs that had a positive impact on the artist's intention for sustainable activities were as follows: the 'Art Products Creation Workshop', where artists, merchants, and citizens collaborate to develop commodities needed for the market; 'Hanpyeong Gallery', where artists directly or indirectly interact with merchants and citizens; the 'Artist-Merchant Workshop', where artists and merchants produce articles required for the market; 'C'est Si Bon', which expresses the placeness of the market into art; and the 'Dae-in Art Night Market', where citizens, merchants and visitors can sell their own works. On the other hand, programs with the negative effect were those where artists' participation was low or none, as the policy implications, they should be actively develop this type of programs, where artists could participate and interact with citizens and merchants, like this visitors and sales can be increased.

Through these efforts, consumer satisfaction grows and loyalty increases, which leads to the positive change of customer satisfaction index. The purpose of this research is to find out the abnormal return after the KCSI(Korean Customer Satisfaction Index) is announced. Research design, data, and methodology - This research data is collected from 11 years' stock price in KOSPI market and KCSI. The authors analyze the abnormal return triggered by the announcement of KCSI through the event study. Results - First, newly enlisted companies in the KCSI show statistically significant short-term abnormal rate of return. Second, the value of the customer satisfaction index is not the level of customer satisfaction but the direction of the change in the CSI. Conclusion - Customer satisfaction has the important intangible asset in the marketing area. However, firms' investment for CS is not an easy decision, because of the difficulty to measure the effect on corporate market value. This research investigates the change of the market value after the announcement of KCSI. Based on the results, firms have to keep trying to increase KCSI relative to the previous year. And the small company has to struggle for being newly listed in the KCSI.

  • The behavioral finance view on the existence of asset pricing anomalies is based on two factors: investors' sentiment and limits to arbitrage. This paper tries to examine the effect of investors' sentiment on the stock price in the Korean stock market. In order to measure investors' sentiment, we constructed the sentiment index using principal component of five sentiment variables. By using sentiment index as an additional independent variable to three risk factors, impacts of the sentiment index on individual stocks and 25 portfolios sorted by BM-size are examined. Main results found are as follows: 1) not only all three risk factors show positive impacts on the return of individual stock, but also the sentiment index has a positive impact. SI alone explains 15% of individual return variation. 2) among four independent variables, the most important factor turned out to be the market risk factor and investors' sentiment has better explanatory power on stock price than the size effect. 3) after controlling the market risk factor, the coefficient of the sentiment index for the smallest size and highest book/market value portfolios is significantly positive. 4) all the coefficients of the sentiment index for 25 portfolios sorted by BM-size have significant positive value after controlling size or (and) value.

  • Even before the Covid-19 outbreak, the second-hand fashion market has been growing as the fashion industry strives towards sustainability. It has also accelerated due to the economic contraction caused by the pandemic. In previous studies, the second-hand market has been steadily studied; however, the research is insufficient compared to the diversified market. Therefore, this study investigates changes in consumers' perception of the second-hand fashion market affected by Covid-19. This study collected text data with the keyword 'second-hand fashion' from various blogs. We analyzed 24,000 posts before and after the Covid-19 outbreak by applying the LDA algorithm for topic modeling and content analysis. Seven and nine different topics for the period before and after the pandemic respectively were derived. The results revealed that during the pandemic the consumers realized the practical value of sustainability in their daily lives than they did before the pandemic. Furthermore, they tried to minimize transaction anxiety by using diverse platforms with advanced technology. They also realized economic value by buying and selling sneakers in the popular sneakers resale market. The results could help understand the rapidly growing second-hand fashion market during Covid-19.

  • This paper examines market concentration and its effect on competition in the Chinese commercial banking market. This study also investigates how changes in competition have affected the financial stability of Chinese commercial banks. To test the competitive conditions, we obtained the H statistic of the Panzar-Rosse model from a revenue function equation. The degree of financial stability is estimated by the Z-score formula. The Chinese banking industry has become an increasingly less concentrated market with an increased number of banks. Along with a decreased market concentration, competition in the Chinese banking industry has improved moderately. However, its market structure is still far from a competitive market. An individual bank's ability to earn higher markup or charge a higher net interest margin contributes to its financial soundness, although a higher degree of market concentration may have negative effect on the financial stability of the entire banking system.
