Determination of Epipolar Geometry for High Resolution Satellite Images

  • The geometry of satellite image captured by linear pushbroom scanner is different from that of frame camera image. Since the exterior orientation parameters for satellite image will vary scan line by scan line, the epipolar geometry of satellite image differs from that of frame camera image. As we know, 2D affine orientation for the epipolar image of linear pushbroom scanners system are well-established by using the collinearity equation (Testsu Ono, 1999). Also, another epipolar geometry of linear pushbroom scanner system is recently established by Habib(2002). He reported that the epipolar geometry of linear push broom satellite image is realized by parallel projection based on 2D affine models. Here, in this paper, we compared the Ono's method with Habib's method. In addition, we proposed a method that generates epipolar resampled images. For the experiment, IKONOS stereo images were used in generating epipolar images.

  • Single-phase power factor correction (PFC) converter circuits are non-linear systems due to the contribution of their multiplier. This non-linearity causes difficulties in analysis and design. Models that reduce the system to a linear system involve considerable approximation, and produce results that are susceptible to instability problems. In this paper a piecewise affine (PWA) system is introduced for describing the nonlinear averaged model. Then robust output feedback controllers are established in terms of the linear matrix inequality (LMI). Simulation and experiments results show the effectiveness of the proposed control method.

On the Derivation of TSK Fuzzy Model for Nonlinear Differentical Equations (비선형 미분방정식의 TSK 퍼지 모델 유도에 관하여)

  • Derivation of TSK fuzzy model from nonlinear differential equation is fundamental issue in the field of theoretical fuzzy control. The method which does not yield affine local differential equations at off-equilibrium points is proposed in this paper. A prototype TSK fuzzy model which has triangular membership functions for linguistic terms of the antecedent part is derived systematically. And then GA is used to modify the membership functions optimally. Simulation results show the validity of the proposed method.

  • Applying the maximally polyphase decomposition and noble identity to the adaptive filter in subband structure, the conventional fullband affine projection algorithm is translated to the subband affine projection (SAP) algorithm. The Maximally polyphase decomposed SAP (MPDSAP) algorithm is a special version of the SAP algorithm, and its adaptive sub-filters have unity projection dimension. The weight updating formular of the MPDSAP is similar to that of the NLMS algorithm, so it may be more proper algorithm than other AP-type algorithms for many practical applications. This paper presents a new statistical analysis of the MPDSAP algorithm. The analytical model is derived for autoregressive (AR) inputs and the nonunity adaptive gain in the subband structure with the orthonormal analysis filters (OAF), The pre-whitening by the OAF allows the derivation of a simple-analytical model for the MPDSAP with the AR inputs and the nonunity adaptive gain.

  • In this paper, we propose an enhanced algorithm for affine projection algorithms which have been proposed to speed up the convergence of the conventional NLMS algorithm. Since affine projection (AP) or pseudo AP algorithms are based on the delayed input vector and error vector, they are complicated and not suitable for applying methods developed for the LMS-type algorithms which are based on the scalar error signal. We devised a variable step size algorithm for pseudo AP using the fact that pseudo AP algorithms are updated using the scalar error and that the error signal is getting orthogonal to the input signal. We carried out a performance comparison of the proposed algorithm with other pseudo AP algorithms using a system identification model. It is shown that the proposed algorithm presents good convergence characteristics under both stationary and non-stationary environments despites its low complexity.

  • We show that the modular equation ${\phi}^{T_n}_m$ (X, Y) for the Thompson series $T_n$ corresponding to ${\Gamma}_0$(n) gives an affine model of the modular curve $X_0$(mn) which has better properties than the one derived from the modular j invariant. Here, m and n are relative prime. As an application, we construct a ring class field over an imaginary quadratic field K by singular values of $T_n(z)\;and\;T_n$(mz).

  • This paper proposes an approach of identifying nonlinear mappings from input/output data. The approach is based on the universal approximation by the fuzzy integration of local affine mappings. A connectionist model realizing the universal approximator is suggested by using a processing unit based on both the radial basis function and the weighted sum scheme. In addition, a learning method with self-organizing capability is proposed for the identifying of nonlinear mapping relationships with the given input/output data. To show the effectiveness of our approach, the proposed model is applied to the function approximation and the prediction of Mackey-Glass chaotic time series, and the performances are compared with other approaches.

  • The motion-based video segmentation provides a powerful method of video compression, because it defines a region with similar motion, and it makes video compression system to more efficiently describe motion video. In this paper, we propose the Modified Fuzzy Competitive Learning Algorithm (MFCLA) to improve the traditional K-menas clustering algorithm to implement the motion-based video segmentation efficiently. The segmented region is described with the affine model, which consists of only six parameters. This affine model was calculated with optical flow, describing the movements of pixels by frames. This method could be applied in the low bit rate video transmission, such as video conferencing system.

  • This paper examines empirically Durham's (2008) asset pricing models to the KOSPI200 index. This model Incorporates the VKOSPI index as a proxy for 1 month integrated volatility. This approach uses option prices to back out implied volatility states with an explicitly speci ed risk-neutral measure and risk premia estimated from the data. The application uses daily observations of the KOSPI200 and VKOSPI indices from January 2, 2003 to September 24, 2010. The empirical results show that non-affine model perform better than affine model.

Proposing Shape Alignment for an Improved Active Shape Model (ASM의 성능향상을 위한 형태 정렬 방식 제안)

  • In this paper an extension to an original active shape model(ASM) for facial feature extraction is presented. The original ASM suffers from poor shape alignment by aligning the shape model to a new instant of the object in a given image using a simple similarity transformation. It exploits only informations such as scale, rotation and shift in horizontal and vertical directions, which does not cope effectively with the complex pose variation. To solve the problem, new shape alignment with 6 degrees of freedom is derived, which corresponds to an affine transformation. Another extension is to speed up the calculation of the Mahalanobis distance for 2-D profiles by trimming the profile covariance matrices. Extensive experiment is conducted with several images of varying poses to check the performance of the proposed method to segment the human faces.
