The present work investigates the effect on the flow-induced vibrations of the lay-up sequence of composite laminated axisymmetric structures, using an hybrid approach based on a wave finite element and a transfer matrix method. The structural vibrations, under deterministic distributed pressure loads, diffuse acoustic field and turbulent boundary layer excitations, are analysed and compared. A multi-scale approach is used for the dynamic analysis of finite structures, using an elementary periodic subsystem. Different flow regimes and shell curvatures are analysed and the computational efficiency is also discussed.

Two-dimensional turbulent flows past a square cylinder and cavity noise are simulated by the finite difference lattice Boltzmann method with subgrid turbulence model. The method, based on the standard Smagorinsky subgrid model and a single-time relaxation lattice Boltzmann method, incorporates the advantages of FDLBM for handling arbitrary boundaries. The results are compared with those by the experiments carried out by Noda & Nakayama and Lyn et al. Numerical results agree with the experimental ones. Besides, 2D computation of the cavity noise generated by flow over a cavity at a Mach number of 0.1 and a Reynolds number based on cavity depth of 5000 is calculated. The computation result is well presented a understanding of the physical phenomenon of tonal noise occurred primarily by well-jet shear layer and vortex shedding and an aeroacoustic feedback loop.
In this paper, aerodynamic noise of axial flow fans for outdoor unit of air-conditioner was analyzed by both experiment and numerical simulation. The three-dimensional incompressible turbulent flow was predicted by the commercial computational fluid dynamics code SC/Tetra, while the aeroacoustic noise of an axial flow fan was predicted by FlowNoise. Computations and experiments were performed with two types of axial flow fans, in which very different noise source distributions were presented. The results obtained from this study are expected to show the way to reduce the noise of axial flow fans in industrial applications.

An active trailing-edge flap blade named as Seoul National University Flap (SNUF) blade is designed for reducing helicopter vibratory loads and the relevant aeroacoustic noise. Unlike the conventional rotor control, which is restricted to 1/rev frequency, an active control device like the present trailing-edge flap is capable of actuating each individual blade at higher harmonic frequencies i.e., higher harmonic control (HHC) of rotor. The proposed blade is a small scale blade and rotates at higher RPM. The flap actuation components are located inside the blade and additional structures are included for reinforcement. Initially, the blade cross-section design is determined. The aerodynamic loads are predicted using a comprehensive rotorcraft analysis code. The structural integrity of the active blade is verified using a stress-strain recovery analysis.

Present paper deals with turbulence-airfoil interaction noise and mainly investigates the effects of airfoil thickness on the broadband noise spectrum. The acoustic power radiation from an airfoil is predicted using high-order time-domain method, which is based on the computational aeroacoustic technique solving the linear Euler equations. The homogeneous and isotropic turbulence is generated by utilizing the synthetic turbulence modeling based on random particle method. The airfoils taken into consideration are a flat-plate and a NACA0012 airfoil aligned with uniform mean flow. The effects of airfoil thickness on the radiated inflow turbulence noise are investigated by comparing acoustic power spectrum predicted for each airfoil. The comparison of acoustic power spectrum reveals that the airfoil thickness significantly contributes the high frequency noise reduction.

In this paper, new concept, low noise axial fan was developed. The fan was designed to operate at high-pressure condition inside the refrigerator. This fan - we call it Alpha fan - has small turbo blades at trailing edge of axial fan. These turbo blades make alpha fan operate at high pressure and low noise condition. In order to find out the optimal value of design parameters, 6-sigma method was used. The design parameters are ratio between inner and outer diameter, Height, Install angle and Install position of turbo blade. Optimal value of turbo blade was found out and the noise generated from this fan is reduced about 3dB(A).

This study is concerned with the reduction of noise radiation by an industrial fan unit. First, spectral decomposition method is used to decompose the spectrogram obtained in experiments into source function and noise transfer function, and then major noise generation sources are investigated. Among the noise sources involved in the fan unit. this article is focused on the noise source due to vibration of panels of the unit housing. It is shown here that noise radiation associated with the panel vibration can be as significant in some frequency ranges as that associated with other noise sources such as aeroacoustic fan noise.

The Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) has attracted attention as an alternative numerical algorithm for solving fluid mechanics, and its intrinsic unsteadiness and weak numerical damping make it more suitable for aeroacoustic problems. In this paper, applicability of the LBM for solving flow noise problems is tested by applying it to predict transmission loss of a simple expansion silencer. The time history of the static pressure is recorded at the inlet and outlet pipes. The transmission loss (TL) of the muffler is computed by using three point method and two source method, respectively. The TL calculated using the LBM is compared with that computed using finite element method (FEM) and measured data. It is found through these comparisons that the LBM is capable of predicting TL of the simple expansion silencer accurately, which it is difficult to predict using the conventional CFD methods based on the RANS solvers.

The Helicopter noise analysis code was developed using Farassat's Formular 1A based on Ffowcs-Williams and Hawkings equation and Lowson's Formula which contains single loading noise source concept. HART-II(Higher harmonic control Aeroacoustic Rotor Test), STAR(Smart-Twisting Active Rotor) and Active-tab Rotor were computed and analyzed by using developed noise code. The results of these rotor noise prediction are explained and its applicability would be mentioned in this paper.
