The Effects of Dynamic Capabilities, Entrepreneurial Creativity and Ambidextrous Innovation on Firm's Competitiveness

  • A firm's competitive advantage generating from empowering its dynamic capabilities is very important for established companies and new business ventures in facing intense competition and in responding to unanticipated environmental changes. This study aims to investigate the relationship between dynamic capabilities of a new business venture and its competitive advantage and the effect of entrepreneurial creativity and ambidextrous innovation mediation on the relationship between dynamic capabilities and the competitive advantage of a new business venture. Data was collected using an online survey from 143 new Indonesian shipping agency companies that spread over two-thirds of Indonesia's territory and was analyzed using structural equations modeling (SEM). The results showed that the dynamic capabilities of new business ventures are positively associated with competitive advantage but not significantly. This result indicates that empowering a new business venture's dynamic capability is not sufficient to generate a competitive advantage. However, a new business venture's dynamic capability is significantly and positively associated with the competitive advantage when mediated by entrepreneurial creativity and ambidextrous innovation. The findings of this study suggest that the competitive advantage of a new business venture can be gained from empowering a firm's dynamic capabilities through mediating entrepreneurial creativity and ambidextrous innovation in facing intense competition and in responding to unanticipated environmental changes.

Investigating Factors Affecting Value Creation and Its Distribution on Company's Performance

  • Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of business processes, quality of human resources and organizational culture and its distribution in creating value to achieve competitive advantage. Research Design, Data, and Methodology: Data collection in this study was carried out by distributing questionnaires to 90 employees of Delivery service companies in Makassar City. Partial Least Square (PLS) analysis was used as data analysis. Result: this study indicates that business processes do not directly affect competitive advantage, but business processes will have an effect if they go through the value creation process as an intervening variable, while the quality of human resources and work environment have a direct effect on competitive advantage and have a direct effect on Value creation. The quality of human resources and organizational culture also have an indirect effect on competitive advantage through the value creation process. This research also indicates that value creation has an effect on competitive advantage. Conclusion: Competitive advantage will be realized if organizational processes run well, company management that able to carry out good organizational processes and able to create a conducive organizational culture, will be able to distribute company resources to create value that leads to achieving competitive advantage for companies in the future.

  • Purpose: This study proposes a model for future research agendas on knowledge management activities as a source of increasing sustainable competitive advantage. Based on the literature, the role of knowledge management in sustainable competitive advantage does not necessarily have a significant effect but involves other variables. For this reason, future research proposals on the role of knowledge management on sustainable competitive advantage and other relevant variables need to be carried out. Research design, data, and methodology: This research uses a literature study. The model development stage is (1) relevant research studies, (2) identification of relevant theories and related variables, (3) developing and making a hypothesis (4) proposed model. Results: From the literature study, it was found that knowledge management plays a role in increasing managerial competence, market orientation, and innovation. Furthermore, managerial competence, market orientation, and innovation significantly affect sustainable competitive advantage. However, other studies have found a different relationship. Conclusions: This study proposes a research model on the role of knowledge management, managerial competence, market orientation, and innovation to improve sustainable competitive advantage. The study results can be used for further research based on the proposed model and as a reference for company owners and management to increase competitive advantage.

Identifying the Relationship between Total Quality Management and Sustainable Competitive Advantage from the Construction Industry Perspective

  • While it Is well-known that Total duality Management (TQM) can generate and sustain competitive advantage, its process and components have not been clearly identified for the construction industry. This paper aims first to enhance the understanding of TQM Content and Process. Then, drawing various seminal works on TQM and an application of market-based and resource-based theory, a consolidated model identifying the relationship among TQM principles and gaining a sustainable competitive advantage is proposed. Finally, the influence of TQM on sustainable competitive advantage of construction organizations is discussed, thereby interpreting the proposed model. Recognition of TQM's influence will be a starting point, enabling the construction industry to sustain their competitive advantage in the highly competitive global construction market.

  • In This Study, New Product Development Activities, Innovation Activities, Technical Cooperation Activities may have an Impact on Competitive Advantage, Development Performance and Business Performance. The aim of Empirical Analyze is to identify the Structural Causal Relationship among the Activities and Performance Factors. We get the Results as Follows : New Product Development Activities have a Positive Impact on Competitive Advantage as well as the Development Performance. Technological Innovation Activities have a Positive Impact on Competitive Advantage, and do not have enough Impact on the Development Performance. Technical Cooperation Activities have a Positive Impact on the Development Performance, and do not have enough Impact on the Competitive Advantage, Competitive Advantage has a Positive Impact on the Development Performance as well as the Business Performance. Development Performance has a Positive Impact on the Business Performance.

  • In order to cope with the severe business environment and possess the competitive advantage in the food service industry, the effect of organization culture and leadership on competitive advantage in food service companies was investigated. The friendly culture was regarded as important in relation between corporate culture and leadership. And the tendency to participate was shown to be highly correlated to leadership. Leadership and competitive advantage were influenced by the tendency to participate, differentiation and competence. The corporate culture and competitive advantage were affected by the friendly culture, differentiation and competence. Especially, the organization culture was more important than leadership. Therefore, it is necessary to execute the tendency to participate, differentiate products, service and management, and attract customers. And the maintenance of competitive power is required to develop a new product, evaluate customer satisfaction, and improve decision making, problem solving and crisis management.

해외직접투자 결정요인과 경영성과 간 경쟁전략의 조절효과연구 (A Study on Moderating Effects of Competitive Strategy between Determinants of FDI and Management Performance)

  • This study examined the relationship between determinant factors of FDI and management performance, and tested moderating effects by competitive strategy. Questionnaires were gathered from 113 respondents, but only 92 valid copies were analyzed through SPSS WIN 18.0. The major empirical results are as follows: In hypothesis 1, Firm-Special Advantage impacted on Management Performance strongly, Internal Advantage impacted on Management Performance strongly, and Locational Advantage impacted on Management Performance strongly. In Hypothesis 2, the moderating effects by competitive strategy on the relationship between determinant factors of FDI and management performance were tested through multiple regression. The result of the moderating effects by competitive strategy were found to be insignificant. Implications of the finding as well as the limitations of this study are also discussed.

Comparative Advantage of the United States and South Korean Manmade Textile Industries

  • This study examined the comparative advantage of manmade textile (MMT) industries in the United States (US) and South Korea (SK). The Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) framework was used to assess the MMT industries' performance in both countries from 2004 to 2013. With the recent ratification of the United States-South Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA), it is important to understand the current state of these industries. Using UN Comtrade export data, the RCA index values were calculated and analyzed for 27 MMT commodities, three aggregate groups, and the whole industry. It was found that SK had a consistent comparative advantage for the whole industry. Furthermore, SK had a larger number of products with a comparative advantage. The research findings indicate that the MMT industry in SK is likely to outperform the US following the complete ratification of the KORUS FTA.

한국 수출중소기업에서 성과, 자원, 차별화 우위의 관계 및 조직 유기성의 조절 효과 연구 (The effect of resource, differentiation advantage and the moderated role of organicity of organization on performance of export firm in Korea)

  • 본 연구는 국내 수출중소기업을 대상으로 자원, 차별화 우위, 조직 유기성 그리고 수출성과의 관계를 살펴보기 위한 목적으로 진행되었다. 또한, 조직 유기성에 대한 이론적 논의를 통해 조절 효과를 분석하기 위한 통합적 모형을 구축하였다. 자원은 재무자원과 인적자원으로 나누어 설정하였다. 선행연구에 따라 8개의 가설을 설정하였다. 가설검정을 위해 377개 수출기업 표본을 대상으로 구조방정식 모형인 PLS(Partial Least Square) 분석을 시행하였다. 실증분석 결과 재무자원과 인적자원은 모두 차별화 우위에 유의한 영향을 미치고 있었다. 더불어 차별화 우위와 조직 유기성은 수출성과에 유의한 영향을 주고 있음을 확인하였다. 또한, 조절 효과에 대한 분석에서 조직 유기성은 재무자원과 차별화 우위 사이에 그리고 차별화 우위와 수출성과 사이에 유의한 조절 효과를 나타냈다. 그러나 인적자원과 차별화 우위 사이에는 유의한 조절 효과를 나타내지 못했다. 이러한 결과는 조직 유기성이 높을 때 외국시장 변화에 적응하는 데 필요한 차별화 우위가 영향을 받는다는 것을 보여준다. 이후 분석결과에 대한 이론적, 실무적 시사점을 논의하였으며, 연구의 한계 및 앞으로의 방향에 대해 살펴보았다.
