A New Material Sensitivity Analysis for Electromagnetic Inverse Problems

  • This paper presents a new self-adjoint material sensitivity formulation for optimal designs and inverse problems in the high frequency domain. The proposed method is based on the continuum approach using the augmented Lagrangian method. Using the self-adjoint formulation, there is no need to solve the adjoint system additionally when the goal function is a function of the S-parameter. In addition, the algorithm is more general than most previous approaches because it is independent of specific analysis methods or gridding techniques, thereby enabling the use of commercial EM simulators and various custom solvers. For verification, the method was applied to the several numerical examples of dielectric material reconstruction problems in the high frequency domain, and the results were compared with those calculated using the conventional method.

  • 본 논문에서는 화력발전소 보일러 운전원 근무실 소음제어를 위하여 협대역 능동소음 제어시스템을 제안하였다. 제안된 시스템은 기준입력으로 구형파를 사용하여 기본파는 물론 고조파까지 한꺼번에 제어할 수 있게 하였으며, adjoint LMS 알고리즘을 사용하여 기존의 filtered-X LMS 알고리즘을 사용한 경우보다 계산량을 줄였다. 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 결과, 기존의 광대역 능동소음 제어시스템에 비해 훨씬 작은 자수의 적응 필터를 사용하였으나, 더 우수한 특성을 보였다.

Simultaneous identification of damage in bridge under moving mass by Adjoint variable method

  • In this paper, a theoretical and numerical study on bridge simultaneous damage detection procedure for identifying both the system parameters and input excitation mass, are presented. This method is called 'Adjoint Variable Method' which is an iterative gradient-based model updating method based on the dynamic response sensitivity. The main advantage of proposed method is inclusion of an analytical method to augment the accuracy and speed of the solution. Moving mass is a model which takes into account the inertia effects of the vehicle. This interaction model is a time varying system and proposed method is capable of detecting damage in this variable system. Robustness of proposed method is illustrated by correctly detection of the location and extension of predetermined single, multiple and random damages in all ranges of speed and mass ratio of moving vehicle. A comparison study of common sensitivity and proposed method confirms its efficiency and performance improvement in sensitivity-based damage detection methods. Various sources of errors including the effects of measurement noise and initial assumption error in stability of method are also discussed.

  • In meteorology, exploitation of Kalman filter as a data assimilation system is virtually impossible due to simultaneous requirements of adjoint model and large computer resource. The other substitute of utilizing ensemble Kalman filter is only affordable by compensating an enormous usage of computing resource. Furthermore, the latter employs ensemble integration sets for evolving the background error covariance matrix by compensating the dynamical feature of the temporal evolution of weather conditions. We propose a new implementation method that works without the adjoint model by utilizing the explicit expression of the background error covariance matrix in backward evolution. It will also break a barrier in the evolution of the covariance matrix. The method may be applied with a slight modification to the real time assimilation or the retrospective analysis.

  • Narrowband active noise control (ANC) techniques to reduce the noise in thermal power plant are considered. To reduce the computational burden of the ANC system, an adjoint LMS algorithm instead of a filteredx LMS algorithm is used for adaptive filters. The square wave signal is used for the reference signal of adaptive filters to reduce the higher order harmonics as well as the fundamental frequency of noise. A computer simulation has done to show the effectiveness of a proposed algorithm.

Improvement and application of DeCART/MUSAD for uncertainty analysis of HTGR neutronic parameters

  • The improvements of the DeCART/MUSAD code system for uncertainty analysis of HTGR neutronic parameters are presented in this paper. The function for quantifying an uncertainty of critical-spectrumweighted few group cross section was implemented using the generalized adjoint B1 equation solver. Though the changes between the infinite and critical spectra cause a considerable difference in the contribution by the graphite scattering cross section, it does not significantly affect the total uncertainty. To reduce the number of iterations of the generalized adjoint transport equation solver, the generalized adjoint B1 solution was used as the initial value for it and the number of iterations decreased to 50%. To reflect the implicit uncertainty, the correction factor was derived with the resonance integral. Moreover, an additional correction factor for the double heterogeneity was derived with the effective cross section of the DH region and it reduces the difference from the complete uncertainty. The code system was examined with the MHTGR-350 Ex.II-2 3D core benchmark. The keff uncertainty for Ex.II-2a with only the fresh fuel block was similar to that of the block and the uncertainty for Ex.II-2b with the fresh fuel and the burnt fuel blocks was smaller than that of the fresh fuel block.

수반모형을 이용한 한반도 남동지역의 오존 전구물질의 오존 생성 민감도에 관한 수치연구 (Numerical Study on the Ozone Formation Sensitivity of Precursors Using Adjoint Model around the South-eastern Area of the Korean Peninsula)

  • 한반도 동남 지역에서 고농도 오존이 발생한 사례에 대해 $NO_x$에 대한 오존의 수반민감도를 살펴보았다. 사례일에 지배적이었던 국지 순환과 고농도 오존을 모의하기 위해 WRF-CMAQ 모델을 사용하였다. 수반민감도 분석을 위해 CMAQ의 수반 모델을 적용하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 고농도 오존에 주변지역이 미친 영향을 살펴본 수용지 중심의 민감도 분석이다. 또한, 행정 구역별 기여도를 정량적으로 산정하였는데, 대구를 수용지로 하는 민감도 분석 결과 영향지역은 대구에 인접하여 포항으로 이어지는 영역과 남동쪽으로 떨어진 넓은 지역으로 나타났다. 첫 번째 영역은 고농도 사례일 당일에 배출된 $NO_x$의 민감도가 주로 나타났고 두 번째 영역은 전 날 배출에 의한 영향이었다. 반면, 부산을 수용지로 한 경우 사례일 당일 주간의 해풍의 영향으로 같은 날의 $NO_x$ 배출 효과 보다는 전 날 배출되었던 농도에 대한 민감도가 더 중요하였다. 민감도 영향지역에 대한 단면도 분석 결과 지표부근의 $NO_x$ 수송과 함께 상층에서 이류되는 영향도 중요하였다.

플로케이론을 이용한 일반회전체의 복소 모드해석 (Complex Modal Analysis of General Rotor System by Using Floquet Theory)

  • Based upon the Floquet theory, the complex modal solution for general rotor systems with periodically time-varying parameters is newly derived. The complete modal response can be obtained from the orthonormality condition between the time-variant eigenvectors and the corresponding adjoint vectors. The harmonic solutions such as the response and directional special a patterns are then derived in terms of harmonic modes whose coefficients are obtained from the modal analysis. The stability analysis by the Floquet's transition matrix and the eigen-analysis is also performed.

  • A data assimilation system for a 1-dimensional mixed layer model has been constructed using the adjoint method. The classical adjoint method does not work well for the mixed layer variabilities due to the occurrence of spikes in the gradient of the cost function. To solve this problem, the two techniques of scaling the cost function and optimization in the frequency space are used. As a result, the heat flux can be reliably estimated with an accuracy of 8Wm$^{-2}$ rms error in the identical twin experiments. We then applied this system to the tropical Pacific TOGA-TAO buoy data. The air-sea heat flux as well as the mixed layer variability were estimated in close approximation to the buoy data, particularly on time scales longer than the seasonal one.

엔진 밸브 자기 구동기의 설계 최적화 (Design Optimization for the Magnetic Engine Valve Actuator)

  • As the automobile energy efficiency stands out an important matter of interest, the magnetic engine valve system receives attention. It has an advantage of no engine power leakage in opening and closing the valve. Moreover, it generates much bigger force than the piezo actuator system, so it can be a good alternative system of the cam and camshaft system. However, since the valve system is not light enough, it is necessary to make its weight reduce. In this study, topology optimization is applied to find the optimal shape of the armature in a magnetic valve system combined with the finite element analysis for the magnetic field analysis. The result is used to obtain a concept design. The adjoint variable method is employed in order to calculate the design sensitivity of the magnetic driving force in the armature component mostly to reduce the computational time during the repeated sensitivity calculation. The sequential linear programming is employed for the optimization algorithm.
