The meteorological elements were measured to investigate cause of summertime ice formation at Unchiri, Gangwon Province. The cause of freezing at valley was conformed as adiabatic expansion theory, latent heat of evaporation, natural convective theory, cold air remain theory, and convective freezing theory according to former study. However nither theory produced a satisfactory explanation. This studying area is not valley but ridge, and underground water surface exists at below than freezing height. wintertime temperature drop and summertime cold air spouting were explain as natural convective theory, generation of water drop on the rock was explained as cooling theory by air expansion, and ice formation on the rock was explained as adiabatic expansion theory. In conclusion, formation of ice valley at Unchiri was formed by natural convective theory, adiabatic expansion theory, and latent heat of evaporation successively.
The velocity of gadolinium(Gd) atomic vapor vaporized by an electron beam was measured by a microbalance. The velocity of about 900 ㎧ was obtained at an evaporation surface temperature of 2400-2500 K. The measured value was approximately 100 ㎧ faster than the maximum velocity of an ideal monatomic gas in an adiabatic expansion. This phenomenon can be explained that the internal energy of Gd atoms populated in higher excited levels at the high temperature should be convened to kinetic energy during adiabatic expansion. The calculated velocity agrees with the measured one when 100 excited energy levels are included in an enthalpy term for the velocity calculation. The characteristics of vapor flow as a function of heated surface temperature are also reported.

We explore the range of possibilities of temperatures, heated temperature, and Kappa values of a current sheet observation on 2017 September 10. First, we construct a grid model with rapid heating (Theat) and various Kappa (κ) values. We assume a simple density model and use adiabatic cooling to set the temperature during expansion. Next, we calculate the ion fractions using a time-dependent ionization model with adiabatic cooling and various Kappa values. The calculated ion fractions are used to simulate the DNs of the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly on board the Solar Dynamic Observatory. Then, we explore the possible range of the temperatures and Kappa values, comparing the simulated images with the observations. Finally, we discuss the range of the heated temperature and Kappa values and whether the result of this study suggests continuous heating of the current sheet plasma during the expansion.

An analytical method to predict qualitative performance characteristics of the Stirling Engines in the preliminary design stages is investigated. Both the expansion and the compression cylinder are treated as adiabatic and piston motions are approximated as saw-toothed waves. Basic equations which were originally proposed by Finkelstein consist of mass conservation and energy balances for each adiabatic cylinder. The approximation on piston motions and physical conditions make it possible to divide an engine cycle into four fundamental processes. In each process, first, pressure can be expressed as a function of the crank angle by solving a nonlinear first order ordinary differential equation and other thermodynamic variables are determined in turn. Application of the cyclic steady condition to the whole processes can complete a cycle. Also, further analysis results in analytic expressions for cyclic work and heat transfer in terms of the engine parameters and thermodynamic variables at boundary points. The results are expected useful as a quick reference for the engine performances. Finally, the present method can be applied to the other adiabatic analyses on the Stirling Engines with piece wise linear piston motions, if mass variations are predictable.
A 3 valve-type pulse tube refrigerator optains its cooling effect from pressure drop by releasing the part of the charged gas through hot end nozzle. The objective of this study is to analyze the performance and to find an optimal expansion pressure of the 3 valve-type pulse tube refrigerator. It is assumed that gas lumps are not mixed and periodically repeat the adiabatic compression and expansion processes. And the nodal model is applied for the analysis of the regenerator. As the result of analysis, the optimum pressure at the end of expansion process was about 80-90% of the maximum pressure.

To predict the qualitative performance characteristics of Stirling Engines, an analytical approach to the Ideal Adiabatic Model set up by Urieli et al. has been treated. First, volume variations of both the expansion and the compression cylinders are approximated to piecewise linear function of the crank angle, which make it possible to specify the mass flow direction of each cylinder a priori to solve a set of basic equation. In consequences, an engine cycle can be considered as a combination of 4-type fundamental process. For each process, pressure is obtained as a solution of the algebraic equation. Application of the cyclic steady condition to the whole cycle completes the analysis. Further investigations result in analytical expressions for cyclic heat and work in terms of dependent variables determined from the pressure. The results are expected useful in establishing the preliminary design conditions of Stirling Engines.

Capillary tubes are widely used as expansion device in small refrigeration systems. The refrigerant flowing in the capillary tube experiences frictional and accelerational head losses and flashing simultaneously. In this paper flow characteristics of adiabatic capillary tubes were simulated with various friction factor models, two-phase viscosity models, and two-phase frictional multiplier models. The predicted pressure distribution and mass flow rate are compared with experimental data reported in literature. It is confirmed that the predicting accuracy with homogeneous model can be improved by employing suitable correlations of friction factor, two-phase viscosity and two-phase frictional multiplier.

The objective of present work is to investigate the performance characteristics of three-lobe Roots type supercharger for the applications of low-compression and high-expansion ration gasoline engine. A performance test was conducted to obtain the drive power, volumetric efficiency, adiabatic efficiency and the influence of performance factors of supercharger . In order to analyze the supercharging characteristics, the experiments are made on operating parameters such as the supercharger speed, pressure ration and inlet temperature on the supercharging performance of the Roots type supercharger . Based on experimental results, the drive power and flow rate of supercharger increased with supercharger speed.

In this paper, the prediction of adiabatic capillary tube of heat pump using carbon dioxide is investigated theoretically and experimentally to offer the basic design data for the operating parameters of this system. The operating parameters considered in this study include evaporation temperature, cooling pressure of gas cooler, mass flowrate, and the length and diameter of capillary tube. Based on study results of several researchers, the correlation predicting the length of capillary tube of $CO_2$ heat pump was proposed. And the experimental results of evaporation temperature, mass flowrate and cooling pressure in adiabatic capillary tube have an good agreement to those calculated from Eq. (3) within 0.63~10.9%. Therefore, the prediction calculating the length of adiabatic capillary tube of $CO_2$ heat pump was proposed at the given conditions such as cooling pressure, evaporation temperature and capillary tube diameter.
