  • In this paper, we propose a new method of parameter est mat ion which modifies the exponentially weighted RLS (WRLS) method using asliding window. It can be used in adaptive control for a class of linear tine varying system. Computer simulations show that our new method tracts rapidly time varying parameters more effectively than WRLS.

  • Wakeup schemes that turn off sensors' radio when communication is not necessary have great potential in energy saving. At the start of each beacon interval in the IEEE 802.11 power saving mode specified for DCF, each node periodically wakes up for duration called the ATIM Window. However, in the power saving mechanism specified in IEEE 802.11, all nodes use the same ATIM window size. Since the ATIM window size critically affects throughput and energy consumption, a fixed ATIM window does not perform well in all situations. This paper proposes an adaptive mechanism to dynamically choose an ATIM window size according to network condition. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the IEEE 802.11 power saving mechanism in terms of the amount of power consumed and the packet delivery ratio.

  • A stereo matching has been an important tool for the reconstruction of 3D terrain. The current state of stereo matching technology has reached the level where a very elaborate DEM(Digital Elevation Map) can be obtained. However, there still exist many factors causing DEM error in stereo matching. This paper propose a new method to reduce the error caused by the lack of significant features in the correlation window The proposed algorithm keeps the correlation window as small as possible, as long as there is a significant feature in the window. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method increases the DEM accuracy by $72.65\%$ in the plain area and $41.96\%$ in the mountain area over the conventional scheme. Comparisons with Kanade's result show that the proposed method eliminates spike type of errors more efficiently than Kanade's adaptive window technique and produces reliable DEM.

  • The study aims at offering a solution to the problems of transmission delay and data throughput decrease as the number of contending On-Board Units (OBU) increases by applying CSMA medium access control protocol based upon IEEE 802.11p. In a competition-based medium, contention probability becomes high as OBU increases. In order to improve the performance of this medium access layer, the author proposes EDCA which a adaptive adjustment of the Contention Windows (CW) considering traffic density and data type. EDCA applies fixed values of Minimum Contention Window (CWmin) and Maximum Contention Window (CWmax) for each of four kinds of Access Categories (AC) for channel-specific service differentiation. EDCA does not guarantee the channel-specific features and network state whereas it guarantees inter-AC differentiation by classifying into traffic features. Thus it is not possible to actively respond to a contention caused by network congestion occurring in a short moment in channel. As a solution, CWminAS(CWmin Adaptation Scheme) and ACATICT(Adaptive Contention window Adjustment Technique based on Individual Class Traffic) are proposed as active CW control techniques. In previous researches, the contention probabilities for each value of AC were not examined or a single channel based AC value was considered. And the channel-specific demands of IEEE 802.11p and the corresponding contention probabilities were not reflected in the studies. The study considers the collision number of a previous service section and the current network congestion proposes a dynamic control technique ACCW(Adaptive Control of Contention windows in considering the WAVE situation) for CW of the next channel.

  • HomePlug AV(HPAV) is the standard for distribution of Audio/video content as well as data within the home by using the power line. It uses a hybrid access mechanism that combines TDMA with CSMA/CA for MAC technology. The CSMA/CA protocol in HPAV has two main control blobs that can be used for access control: contention window(CW) size and deferral counter(DC). In this paper, we extensively investigate the impacts of CW and DC on performance through simulations, and propose an adaptive mechanism that adjusts the CW size to enhance the throughput in HPAV MAC. We find that the CW size is more influential on performance than the DC. Therefore, to make controlling the network easier, our proposal uses a default value of DC and adjusts the CW size. Our scheme simply increases or decreases the CW size if the network is too busy or too idle, respectively, We compare the performance of our proposal with those of the standard and other competitive schemes in terms of throughput and fairness. Our simulation and analysis results show that our adaptive CW mechanism performs very well under various scenarios.

  • In this paper, we propose the AMBM(: Adaptive Multi-channel Backoff Machisum) -Mac protocol to provide high throughput for non-safety applications in VANET(: Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks) environment. The proposed protocol guarantees the quality of service of non-safety packets by dynamically adjusting CW(: Channel Window) of WSA(: WAVE Service Advertisement) to maximize throughput between non-safety packets of different priority. It also shows that allocating a large amount of time for channel coordination and time slot reservation for SC and dynamically adjusting CW and CCI as nodes increase to reduces transmission delay than IEEE 1609.9, C-MAC(: Coordinated multi-channel MAC, and Q-VCI(: QoS Variable CCH Interval) protocols.

  • With considering center-biased characteristic, NTSS(New Three-Step Search Algorithm) can improve the performance of TSS(Three-Step Search Algorithm) which is one of the most popular fast block matching algorithms(BMA) to search a motion vector in a video sequence. Although NTSS has generally better Quality than TSS for a small motion sequence, it is hard to say that NTSS can provide better quality than TSS for a large motion sequence. It even deteriorates the quality to increase a search window size using NTSS. In order to address this drawback, this paper aims to develop a new adaptive window size-based three step search scheme, called AWTSS, which can improve quality at various window sizes in both the small and the large motion video sequences. In this scheme, the search window size is dynamically changed to improve coding efficiency according to the characteristic of motion vectors. AWTSS can improve the video quality more than 0.5dB in case of large motion with keeping the same quality in case of small motion.

  • Among a number of approaches to text compression, adaptive dictionary schemes based on a sliding window have been very frequently used due to their high performance. The LZ77 algorithm is the most efficient algorithm which implements such adaptive schemes for the practical use of text compression. This paperpresents a VLSI architecture designed for processing the LZ77 algorithm in parallel. Compared with the other VLSI architectures developed so far, the proposed architecture provides the more viable solution to high performance with regard to its throughput, efficient implementation of the VLSI systolic arrays, and hardware scalability. Indeed, without being affected by the size of the sliding window, our system has the complexity of O(N) for both the compression and decompression and also requires small wafer area, where N is the size of the input text.

  • In this paper, we propose a window warping method to solve stereo matching problems in projective distortion region. Because the projective distortion region cant t be estimated with fixed-size block matching algorithm, we use the window warping technique in block matching process. The position of a reference window to resample is obtained adaptively according to the degree of reliability in disparity estimated previously. The initial disparity and reliability are obtained by applying a well known hierarchical strategy. The experimental result shows that considerable improvement is obtained in the projective distortion region.
