In this paper, a robust and fast grid synchronization method of a three-phase power converter is proposed. The amplitude and phase information of grid voltages are essential for power converters to be properly connected into the utility. The phase-lock-loop in synchronous reference frame has been widely adopted for the three-phase converter system since it shows a satisfactory performance under balanced grid voltages. However, power converters often operate under abnormal grid conditions, i.e. unbalanced by grid faults and frequency variations, and thus a proper active and reactive power control cannot be guaranteed. The proposed method adopts a second order generalized integrator in synchronous reference frame to detect positive sequence components under unbalanced grid voltages. The proposed method has a fast and robust performance due to its higher gain and frequency adaptive capability. Simulation and experimental results show the verification of the proposed synchronization algorithm and the effectiveness to detect positive sequence voltage.
The measuring resolution and speed for wavefronts are important to improve the performance of an adaptive optics system. In this paper, we propose a fast measuring algorithm with high resolution in the Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor for an adaptive optics system. We designed ground isolated electrical devices whose differential data signals are used to control the deformable mirror and tip/tilt mirror for robust control. The conventional mass centroid algorithm in the Shack-Hartmann sensor to measure wavefront has been widely used and provided good measurement results. In this paper, the proposed fast measuring algorithm for measuring the wavefront combines the conventional mass centroid algorithm with a weighting factor. The weighting factor is a real value estimating the real center of mass in a wavefront spot image. This proposed wavefront measuring algorithm provided fast measurement results with high resolution from experimental tests.

A novel rotor speed estimation method using model reference adaptive control(MRAC) is proposed to improve the performance of a sensorless vector controller. In the proposed method, the stator current is used as the model variable for estimating the speed. In conventional MRAC methods, the relation between the two model errors and the speed estimation error is unclear. In the proposed method, the stator current error is represented as a function of the first degree for the error value in the speed estimation. Therefore, the proposed method can produce a fast speed estimation. The robustness of the rotor flux-based MRAC, back EMF-based MRAC, and proposed MRAC is compared based on a sensitivity function about each error of stator resistance, rotor time constant, mutual inductance. Consequently, the proposed method is much more robust than the conventional methods as regards errors in the mutual inductance, stator resistance. Therefore, the proposed method offers a considerable improvement in the performance of a sensorless vector controller at a low speed. In addition, the superiority of the proposed method and the validity of sensitivity functions were verified by simulation and experiment.
In this paper, an algorithm that provides absolute and proportional differentiation of packet delays is proposed with the objective of enhancing quality of service in future packet networks. It features an adaptive scheme that adjusts the target delay for every time slot to compensate the deviation from the target delay, which is caused by prediction error on the traffic to arrive at the next time slot. It predicts the traffic to arrive at the beginning of a time slot and measures the actual arrived traffic at the end of the time slot. The difference between them is utilized by the delay control operation for the next time slot to offset it. Because the proposed algorithm compensates the prediction error continuously, it shows superior adaptability to bursty traffic and exponential traffic. Through simulations we demonstrate that the algorithm meets the quantitative delay bounds and is robust to traffic fluctuation in comparison with the conventional non-adaptive mechanism. The algorithm is implemented with VHDL on a Xilinx Spartan XC3S1500 FPGA, and the performance is verified under the test board based on the XPC860P CPU.
This paper proposes an adaptive technique for the cardiac output regulation of a pendulum type electromechanical TAH. This techinque, which consists of two RLSE's and two PASTC' 5, performs Its controllability over the TAIB so that the m(RAP) and m(LAP) values re- main close to their desired values under she assumption that the variation of m(RAP) and m (LAP) are dominated by the variation of C.0. and the difference between the left and right ventricular output, respectively. To evaluate the performance of the proposed control system, a simulation is performed by using a human model which contains physiologic, drug and treatment, artificial heart and noise models. As a result, dual adaptive controller showed that abnormal m(LAP) and m(RAP) could be recovered to the normal range within 10minute and maintained desired value in steady state. The operation of this controller prored to be robust in spite of the rapid variation of human status.

Laminated composite plates are utilized extensively in different fields of construction and industry thanks to their advantages such as high stiffness-to-weight ratio. Additionally, they are characterized by their directional properties that permit the designer to optimize their stiffness for specific applications. This paper presents a numerical analysis and optimization study of plates made of composite subjected to low velocity impact. The main aim is to identify the optimum fiber orientations of the composite plates that resist low velocity impact load. First, a three-dimensional finite element model is built using LS DYNA computer software package to perform the impact analyses. The composite plate has been modeled using solid elements. The failure criteria of Tsai-Wu's criterion have been used to control the strength of the composite material. A good agreement has been found between the predicted numerical results and experimental results in the literature which validate the finite element model. Then, an Adaptive Simulated Annealing (ASA) has been used to optimize the response of impacted composite laminate where its objective is to maximize the safety factor by varying the ply angles. The results show that the ASA is robust in the sense that it is capable of predicting the best optimal designs.

The load frequency control of power system is one of important subjects in view of system operation and control. That is even though the rapid load disturbances were applied to the given power system, the stable and reliable power should be supplied to the users, converging unconditionally and rapidly the frequency deviations and the tie-line power flow one on each area into allowable boundary limits. Nonetheless of such needs, if the internal parameter perturbation and the sudden load variation were given, the unstable phenomenal of power system can be often brought out because of the large frequency deviation and the unsuppressible power line one. Therefore, it is desirable to design the robust neuro-fuzzy controller which can stabilize effectively the given power system as soon as possible. In this paper the robust neuro-fuzzy controller was proposed and applied to control of load frequency over multi-area power system. The architecture and algorithm of a designed NFC(Neuro-Fuzzy Controller) were consist of fuzzy controller and neural network for auto tuning of fuzzy controller. The adaptively learned antecedent and consequent parameters of membership functions in fuzzy controller were acquired from the steepest gradient method for error-back propagation algorithm. The performances of the resultant NFC, that is, the steady-state deviations of frequency and tie-line power flow and the related dynamics, were investigated and analyzed in detail by being applied to the load frequency control of multi-area power system, when the perturbations of predetermined internal parameters. Through the simulation results tried variously in this paper for disturbances of internal parameters and external stepwise load stepwise load changes, the superiorities of the proposed NFC in robustness and adaptive rapidity to the conventional controllers were proved.

After a not-widely-known fact is revealed that Japan is a leading country in production and use of industrial unmanned helicopters, a kind of UAV. The voice command system and the autonomous flight control system with a variety of control algorithms including neural network, robust and adaptive control that have been developed in collaboration between Kyoto University and Yamaha Motor Co., and funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of Japan are described in some detail. Both already-proven and promising future applications of the autonomous unmanned helicopters are given.
An adaptive nonlinear control of a brushless direct drive motor(BLDDM) is proposed. Comparing to the traditional PMSM the direct drive motor has smaller number of per pole and per phase slots to provide higher torque in low speed. This generic construction generates flux harmonics and finally results in unwanted torque harmonics. To control the speed a feedback linearization method is applied by choosing the $i_{ds}$ and $\omega_{m}$ as the output variables. The control of the flux harmonics is provided by using a flux observer with MRAC technique. As shown in the simula-tion results the proposed nonlinear speed controller has a good speed response in the steady state and robust to the flux variation
