  • Wireless Ad-Hoc network which doesn't utilize any established infrastructure requires different communication protocols. Among them, Flooding algorithm is generally used in wireless Ad-Hoc network for packet transmission. However, Flooding algorithm has many drawbacks such as energy consumption according to the increase of nodes. Therefore, a modified flooding algorithm which can effectively overcome the aforementioned drawbacks is proposed in this paper. The performance of the proposed scheme is shown by various simulation studies.

  • The Cognitive Radio (CR) paradigm in tactical ad hoc networks is an important element of future military communications for network-centric warfare. This paper presents a novel Cognitive Link State Routing protocol for CR-based tactical ad hoc networks. The proposed scheme provides prompt and reliable routes for Primary User (PU) activity through procedures that incorporate two main functions: PU-aware power adaptation and channel switching. For the PU-aware power adaptation, closer multipoint relay nodes are selected to prevent network partition and ensure successful PU communication. The PU-aware channel switching is proactively conducted using control messages to switch to a new available channel based on a common channel list. Our simulation study based on the ns-3 simulator demonstrates that the proposed routing scheme delivers significantly improved performance in terms of average end-to-end delay, jitter, and packet delivery ratio.

  • We propose a new resource management scheme, Distributed Channel Allocation Protocol (DCAP), for multimedia Ad Hoc Wireless LANs (AWLANS). This scheme implements a Qualify-of-Service (QoS) providing distributed resource management on the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing-Code Division Multiple Access (OFDM-CDMA) channel architecture. According to the performance evaluation results for MPEG traffic sources, DCAP can be a good choice of resource management scheme for AWLANs supporting multimedia services on the Broadband Wireless Access(BWA)-type physical layer.

  • The standard routing protocol of MANET(Mobile Ad-hoc NETwork), AODV(Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector), only considers the shortest path for routing, which may cause traffic concentration to a node at the critical path. Hence, the battery of the node will be dissipated rapidly to reduce the lifetime of the whole network. In this paper, power dissipation considered AODV is proposed for fair energy distribution in MANET, and verified using the computer simulation.

  • In this paper we propose a mobile ad-hoc routing protocal based on AODV(Ad hoc On demand Distance Vector) with traffic management support and evaluate the performance through simulation. The average reception rate is increased by establishing the shortest route, considering in advance the usable communication resources at each node. For performance evaluation, we analyze the average data reception rate, considering the node mobility.

  • To initialize and maintain self-organizing networks such as mobile ad hoc networks, address allocation protocol is essentially required. However, centralized approaches that pervasively used in traditional networks are not recommended in this kind of networks since they cannot handle with mobility efficiently. In addition, previous distributed approaches suffer from inefficiency with control overhead caused by duplicated address detection and management of available address pool. In this paper, we propose a new dynamic address allocation scheme, which is based on adaptive partition. An available address is managed in distributed way by multiple agents and partitioned adaptively according to current network environments. Finally, simulation results reveal that a proposed scheme is superior to previous approach in term of address acquisition delay under diverse simulation scenarios.

  • Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANETs) refer to autonomous networks in which wireless data communications are established between multiple nodes in a given coverage area without a base station or centralized administration. Because of node mobility and limited battery life, the network topology may changes frequently. Selecting the most reliable path during route discovery process is important to improve performance in ad hoc networks. In this paper, an enhanced routing protocol based on AODV(Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector routing) by monitoring variation of receiving signal strength is proposed. New metric function that consists of node mobility and hops of path is used for routing decision. For preventing route failure by node movement during data transmission, a new route maintenance named as LRC (Local Route Change) is presented. If the node movement is detected, the routing agent switches path to its neighbor node in LRC. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed routing scheme is superior to previous AODY protocol.

  • In this paper a cross layer protocol, referred to as an underwater ad-hoc communication (UAC) protocol, is proposed for underwater acoustic networks (UANets). An underwater node (UN), which tries to transfer data to another UN or a buoy in ad-hoc manner, can access channel as well as determine routing path by employing the UAC protocol. The channel access, route determination, and reliable data transfer are designed being adaptive to underwater environments. In addition, we propose both UN and packet architectures in order to efficiently implement the UAC protocol for UANets.
