Objectives : This study was performed to review the principal of Bideungpalbub and to investigate the usefulness of it. Methods : The authors reviewed several literatures about Younggupalbub and investigated the clinical usefulness as well found some problems with it. Results and Conclusions : Bideungpalbub is a time related-acupuncture treatment and has a possibility to make some problems for the patients and oriental medical doctors.

The aim of this report was to show the effects of acupotomy in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. Four patients were treated with acupotomy twice. Visual analogue scale (VAS), Tinel's sign, Phalen's test, Boston carpal tunnel syndrome questionnaire (BCTQ), muscular strength test, and a cross-sectional area of median nerve was measured using ultrasound before and after treatment. In all 4 cases, the VAS score, BCTQ score and cross-sectional area of median nerve, all decreased and muscular strength test score increased. Tinel's sign and the Phalen's test changed from a positive to a negative in most cases. This report shows that acupotomy is an effective treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome. Further larger are needed to fully evaluate the beneficial effects of this treatment.

Objectives : This report intended to estimate effect taken by using Sacro-Occipital Technique on the patient with Herniation of Nucleus Pulposus(Central type). Method : From 11 May, 2005 to 30 June, 2005. The patient recived Sacro-Occipital Technique and Acupuncture therapy. Result : After being hospitalized for 50 days. the patient's Motor Grade, ODI, VAS, ROM were improved each from IV to IV+. from 26 to 20, from 10 to 2, and ROM with flexion/entension, rotation were improved each from 70'/0' to 90'/12', from 30'/40' to 45'/55'. Conclusion : We considered Sacro-Occipital Technique has an useful effect on Herniation of Nucleus Pulposus

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Korean medical treatment on 4 patients with acute traumatic meniscal tear, presenting severe knee pain and limitation of range of motion of the knee joint. Methods : 4 patients with acute traumatic meniscal tear had been treated with acupuncture, herbal treatment, moxibustion, and wet-cupping therapy. From administration to discharge, we recorded subjective pain by using a visual analogue scale and by measuring the range of motion of the knee joint once per week. Results : The visual analogue scale of knee pain of all 4 cases reduced to 0 after treatment. The range of motion of the knee joint also increased considerably after treatment. Conclusions : In this study, Korean medical treatment may have been effective in reducing knee pain and increasing the range of motion of the knee joint.

The risk of stress fractures is associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), which can aggravate bone loss. We report the case of a patient who was on long-term medication for RA presenting with lower extremity pain on the left and swelling without trauma. Magnetic resonance imaging and plain radiographs at the previous hospital showed no signs of fracture, but radiographs performed later, revealed a stress fracture of the left distal tibia. The stress fracture may have occurred due to multiple reasons such as long-term use of methotrexate and glucocorticoids, active RA, postmenopausal state, and immobility. Suspicion of a stress fracture should not be ruled out especially in RA patients with persistent pain, even if the radiographical findings are normal. Additional imaging and follow-ups are essential. The patient's pain was relieved with Korean medicine treatments, which suggests their potential application for stress fractures in RA patients.

Objectives : The purpose of this case is to report the improvement of a patient with lymphedema due to axillary lymph node dissection after acupuncture therapy and herbal medicine. Methods : We treated the patient with Dong-Qi acupuncture, herbal medication(木通大安湯), lymph absorption massage, compresses, abdominal breathing. We measured the circumference of the patient's elbow and wrist every day at 6pm. Results : Since being hospitalized, the circumference of the patient' elbow and wrist has been decreased and VAS score has gotten lower gradually. Conclusions : We considered Dong-Qi acupuncture, herbal medication had a useful effect on lymphedema due to axillary lymph node dissection with lymph absorption massage, compresses, abdominal breathing.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of hand acupuncture moxibustion therapy on elders' shoulder pain, ADL/IADL and sleep disorder. Methods: This is quasi-experimental with none equivalent control group pretest posttest design. The subjects were randomly assigned to one of Experimental Group A (Ceramic Seoammoxa therapy) (n=20), Experimental Group B (Seoampellet therapy) (n=18), Experimental Group C (Ceramic Seoammoxa and Seoampellet therapy) (n=20), and a control group (n=20). The intervention was applied 3 times per week for 6 weeks. NRS, Song's ADL/IADL scale, Oh, Shin and Kim's sleep disorders scale were used. Results: Hypothesis "Both shoulder pain and the level of sleep disorders of the experimental group A, B and C would be lower than the control group" was supported (p<.001). Hypothesis "ADL/IADL of the experimental group A, B and C would be higher than the control group" was supported (p<.001). In 3 weeks after the experiment, the experimental group A, B and C showed significant difference in change of ADL/IADL (p=.013). In 6 weeks after the experiment, the experimental group A, B and C showed significant difference in change of ADL/IADL (p<.001) and sleep disorders (p<.001). Conclusion: Consequently, the hand acupuncture moxibustion was an effective therapy in relieving shoulder pain and sleep disorders and improving ADL/IADL among elders.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of electro-acupuncture treatment for whiplash injury patients caused by traffic accident. Methods : 58 patients were divided into two groups, experimental group and control group, of 29 patients each. Experimental group was treated with electro-acupuncture treatment and general acupuncture treatment twice per week for four weeks. Control group was treated with general acupuncture treatment twice per week for four weeks. We evaluated the treatment effect of each group with the visual analog scale(VAS) and neck disability index(NDI). Results : 1. In both two groups, VAS and NDI were decreased significantly in statistics as treatment went on. 2. From 1st medical examination day to 4th treated day and From 1st medical examination day to 8th treated day, there were significant reduction of the VAS in experimental group than control group. 3. From 1st medical examination day to 8th treated day, there were not significant reduction of the NDI in experimental group than control group. Conclusions : We suggest that cotreatment of electro-acupuncture treatment could be recommended as a useful therapy in the early stages whiplash injury patients.

The purpose of this study was to show the effect of Umnungchon and Hyolhae about acupuncture side effects. 6 cases of patients treated in Hankyoreh Oriental madical clinic of Daejeon from Dec 1 2005 to Apr 15 2006 were survey. The side effect of acupunctur therapy is called neddling-shock(Chim-hun) and it happ. ened at to nervers, hungry, fatigue patient's condition. The side effect of acupuncture is paraesthesia, hypersensitivity, hematoma etc. But it was not mentioned in Oriental medical literature written in Chinese. I used Umlungchon and heulhe for The side effect of acupuncture and This point were effective treatment of paraesthesia, hypersensitivity, hematoma by acupuncture.

Kyphotic cervical curvature, straghtening is commonly caused by trauma, muscle spasm without trauma and wrong posture, etc. Objective : This study is performed to evaluate the clinical effect of neck pain associated with Kyphotic cervical curvatre on cervical x-ray lateral view. Methods : One of the many causes, We examined the patients with neck pain & upper back pain who visited to Department of Acupuncture & Moxibustion, Gumi Oriental Hospital of Kyung-San University from 16th June 1999 to 22th June 2000. Pre and post treatment, We evaluated the cervical angle, Jochumsen's method, VAS(visual analogue scale) and effective score of treatment. Results & Conclusion : 1. Kyphotic cervical curvature is mainly caused by wrong posture during long term, sudden trauma, etc. therfore, postcervical muscles and tendon are injuryed by strong stress. So, muscle imbalance and pain is occured. 2. On these cases, The improvement index for pre/post treatment showed 28/42, 10/15, 9/30, 28/42 degree in cervical angle. Jochumsen's method showed -1/+2, -9/-3, -5/-2, -1/+2mm. Afer treatment VAS is 2, 1, 1, 1 and effective score of treatment is above good. The results suggest that treatments of Oriental Medicine(Acupuncture & Moxibustion, Chu-Na, Cupping and Physical therapy) are effective methods for neck pain with kyphotic cervical curvature on cervical x-ray lateral view.
