Objectives : The purpose of this study was to take around herbal medicine for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in China. Methods : A journal search was performed using China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) from 2007 to 2012. Key words searched were 'ADHD'. Results : 25 studies were selected. Case control studies showed that herbal medicine treatment reported better results than the western medicine treatment group. 12 case reports reported a significant improvement in herbal medicine treatment for patients with ADHD. Frequently used herbal materials were Rhizome of Polygalae Radix and Rhizome of Acori Gramineri Rhizoma (16 times), Root of Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch (14 times), Root of Rehmanniae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata and Sclerotium of Poria cocos Wolf (12 times). Conclusions : There have been many studies regarding herbal medicine for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in China, and these studies can be applied to the clinical practices in Korea.

Objective : To evaluate the pain improvement of the lumbago patients taken the electro-acupuncture therapy using Visual Analogue Scale. Methods : The 25 patients of 46 lumbago patients visited department of Acupuncture & Moxibustion in National Medical Center from 1st March to 20th August had taken the electro-acupucture therapy more than 5 times. We checked on their age, sex, onset, radiating pain, back pain past history and Straight Leg Raising test. And we evaluated their improvement of back pain using Visual Analog Scale(VAS) at each visit. Then we analyzed the pain improvement by their age, sex, onset, radiating pain, back pain past history, Straight Leg Raising test, visiting frequency and Visual Analog Scale on 1st visit(VAS1) Results : VAS of 24 patients has improved and VAS of one patient has not been changed. There's no patient getting worse. The women and the positive group at SLR Test had better result of pain improvement. Conclusion : The lumbago patients taken electro-acupuncture more than 5 times showed significantly different pattern of pain improvement according to the sex and the SLR test.

Objective : The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of oriental medical treatments for neonates in the Postpartum care center. Methods : This clinical study was carried out with the 186 neonates who admitted to the Postpartum Care Center of Conmaul Oriental Medicine Hospital, from November, 2003 to May, 2004. The data of sex, delivery method, gestation age, birthweight, symptoms, herbal prescription, improved condition and other treatments was collected via the medical charts. Results : Among 186 newborn babies, 48 cases had diarrhea. We used Gwakhyangjeonggi-san for 31 cases, Bulwhangumjeongnggi-san for 5 cases, compound prescription of the two for 8 cases. The effect of treatment was excellent for 25 cases, good for 11 cases, not good for 8 cases. In fever, there were 39 cases. We used Gwakhyangjeonggi-san and venesection of blood for 17 cases, only venesection of blood for 20 cases, and only Gwakhyangjeongg-isan for 3 cases. The effect of treatment was excellent for 37 cases, good for 3 cases. In cold, there were 4 cases. We used Samsoum for 1 case, Socheongryong-tang for 3 cases. The effect of treatment was excellent for 2 cases, good for 1 case, not good for 1 case. Conclusions : This study shows oriental medical treatments like acupucture, herbal medicine, and venesection of blood for neonates have significant effects. we will need further prospective studies about effects of these oriental medical treatments.

Evans syndrome, as originally described, refers to autoimmune hemolytic anemia accompanied by thrombocytopenia. The autoantibodies in Evans syndrome are directed specifically against red cells, platelets, or neutrophils and are not crossreacting. The incidence of autoimmune hemolytic anemia is estimated to be approximately 10 cases per million people. Many patients have associated disorders, such as lupus erythematosus and other autoimmune disease, chronic lymphadenopathy, or hypogammaglobulinemia. In Oriental Medicine, the approach to Evans syndrome is made in view of deficiency of blood. The ailment was treated through methods of Oriental Medicine. Acupucture and herbal medicine were administered to patients diagnosed with Evans Syndrome by ecchymosis at the lower limb after continued gingival bleeding. As a result significant improvement in RBC, Hb, Hct, and PLT were observed and complaints abated.

Objectives : The study was designed to evaluate the effects of scalp acupuncture treatment on patients with insomnia in China. Methods : A journal search was performed using China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI) from 1994 to 2011. Key words used within the search were 'insomnia' and 'scalp acupuncture'. Results : 19 studies were selected. 9 RCTs and 2 case control studies showed that scalp acupuncture therapy reported better results than routine acupuncture, western medicine, and herbal medicine therapy. 8 case reports described a significant improvement in patients with insomnia by scalp acupuncture. Conclusions : There have been many studies regarding scalp acupuncture on patients with insomnia in China and these studies can be applied to clinical practices within Korea.

Oral leukoplakia is the most common premalignant lesion of the oral mucosa. This case report presents the effect of acupuncture on Oral leukoplakia. The 67 years old male patient who has suffered for 2 years was treated with Right side Saam acupucture Damjeonggyeok(BL66, GB43, LI1, GB44) without other treatment. Acupuncture was performed for 15 minutes. The effect of acupuncture was evaluated as photographic change and visual analog scale(VAS) of subjective symptoms in oral cavity. After 87th acupunture treatment during 226 days, Leukoplakias were decreased at the right side of ventral tongue and the left border of the tongue and the lower lip. Furthermore, ulcer, erosion at the left border of the tongue were disappeared and VAS of Burning pain in the tongue decreased from 8 to 2. Although acupuncture is unusual treatment for Oral Leukoplakia, this case report suggested the effectiveness of using Damjeonggyeok on Oral Leukoplakia according to Saam acupuncture method.

Introduction : Atopic dermatitis is very epidermic disease in these days. Atopic dermatitis is difficult for patient to be treated because there is no specific treatment. The oriental method of atopic dermatitis is varied as patient situation and doctor's view point. The Treatise on Febrile Diseases(傷寒論) may be a hint for atopy disease. Object: Although we use various method such as acupucture, aroma therapy, a medicine for external use, we use the two decoctions in the Treatise on Febrile Diseases according to differentiation of syndromes and abdominal diagnosis. Result : After inpatient treatment in 21 days, the itching, redness, exudation, crust, lichen get better and insomnia and constipation was removed quickly. The SCORAD index is decreased from 84.2 to 25.9. Conclusion : These decoction can treat the atopic dermatitis although there is no symptom in atopy because we cure the all situation of the patient. We can cure the atopic dermatitis not only by routine remedy for various symptoms but also by diagnosis and treatment based on overall analysis of symptoms and signs.

The studies look at the causes, pathology, symptom, diagnosis, treatment of rheumatoid arthritis in the sight of east-western medicine. Following are the results : 1. Rheumatoid arthritis korean-medically belongs to symptom such as Bi(痺), Poung Bi(風痺), Tong Poung(痛風), Youk Jeol Poung(歷節風), Bak Hoe Poung(白虎風), Bak Hoe Youk Jeol Poung(白虎歷節風), etc. 2. The causes of Rheumatoid arthritis are endopathic and exopathic : endopathically it tis related to Chil Jeong(七情) and visceral imbalance, and exopathically it is related to Euk Eum (六淫) and environmental factors. 3. To figure out rheumatoid arthritis, we need to diagnose first the joint symptom and the general body condition, we need about 6 weeks to get the exact decision after the serologic test, the immune and inheritance test, the synovium test. 4. There are four kinds of treatments for rheumatoid arthritis : medicin, acupucture and moxibustion, suction cup and purging away the blood, physical therapy. Cheong Eol So Bi(淸熱消痺) can be used for the acute stage and Jang Bu Seong Shai(臟腑盛衰) is to be considered for the chronic stage. 5. Rheumatoid arthritis should be constantly treated to prevent the patient from the deformity of joint complication.

Paroxysmal Kinesigenic Dyskinesia ( PKD ) is an unusual dyskinesia often precipitated by voluntary movements and characterized by brief episodes of choreic/ dystonic movements. Little is known of the pathophysiology of PKD, although secondary etiologies such as multiple sclerosis, ischemic stroke, birth injury , head trauma, drug abuse, etc. are known to induce the disease. We report a case of a male patient suffering from both legs dystonia for 10 years. He had a past history of drug abuse, and was diagnosed as PKD by a neurologist. We treated him with acupucture and herbal medicine and was able to observe the improvement in certain symtoms and general condition.

Objectives : This study was designed to report the effect of korean traditional treatment and person-centered counseling for poststroke depression Methods : We treated two patients who scored 37 point and 32 point at Beck's depression inventory each, and 23 point and 22 point at Hamilton rating scale for depression each by korean traditional treatment and person-centered counseling, Results : After treatment, the clinical symptoms were improved and Beck's depression inventory, Hamilton rating scale for depression score were decreased, Conclusions : The result suggest that korean traditional treatment and person-centered counseling is effective in patients with poststroke depression.
