Tracking and Capturing a Moving Object Using Active Camera Mounted on a Mobile Robot (이동로봇에 장착된 능동 카메라를 이용한 이동물체의 추적과 포획)

  • In this paper, we propose a method of tracking and capturing a moving object by a mobile robot. The position of the moving object is acquired from the relation through color-based image information from a 2-DOF active camera mounted on the mobile robot. The direction and rotational angular velocity of the moving object are estimated using a state estimator. A Kalman fiber is used as the state estimator for taking characteristics of robustness against noises and uncertainties included in the input data. After estimating the trajectory of the moving object, we decide on the optimal trajectory and plan the motion of the mobile robot to capture the target object within the shortest distance and time. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by the simulations and experiments.

  • An effective algorithm for implementation of which detects moving object from image sequences. predicts the direction of it. and drives the camera in real time is proposed. In static camera, for robust motion detection from a dynamic background scene, the proposed algorithm performs statistical modeling of moving objects and background, and trains the statistical modeling of moving objects and background, and trains the statistical feature of background with the initial parts of sequence which have no moving objects. Active camera moving objects are segmented by following procedure, an improved order adaptive lattice structured linear predictor is used. The proposed algorithm shows robust object tracking results in the environment of static or active camera. It can be used for the unmanned surveillance system, traffic monitoring system, and autonomous vehicle.

  • This paper presents active vibration control performance of a hybrid mount. The proposed hybrid mount is devised by adopting both piezostack as an active actuator and rubber as a passive element. After experimentally identifying actuating force characteristics of the piezostack and dynamic characteristics of the rubber, the hybrid mount was designed and manufactured. Subsequently, a vibration control system with a specific mass loading is constructed, and its governing equations of motion are derived. In order to actively attenuate vibration transmitted from the base, a feedforward controller is formulated and experimentally realized. Vibration control responses are then evaluated in time and frequency domains.

  • In this study, integration control of air-cell seat and semi-active suspension is proposed to minimize the road-tyre force which can cause uncomfortable feeling to rider. The proposed integration control with sliding perturbation observer is consisted of air-cell seat control which uses the force generated by air-cell and the sky-hook control. The air-cell seat itself has been modeled as a 1 degree of freedom spring-damper system. The actual characteristics of the air-cell have been analyzed through experiments. In this paper, we introduces a new robust motion control algorithm using partial state feedback for a nonlinear system with modelling uncertainties and external disturbances. The major contribution of this work is the development and design of robust observer for the state and the perturbation. The combination skyhook controller and air-cell controller using the observer improves control performance, because of the robust routine called Sliding Observer Design for Integration Control of Air-Cell Seat and Semi-active Suspension. The simulation results show a high accuracy and a good performance.

Concept Design of Hydro Reactive Solid Propellant for Underwater High Speed Ramjet Engine System (수(水)반응성 고체추진제를 이용한 수중고속램제트엔진 시스템 개념 설계)

  • For thrust motion of high speed underwater torpedo the special hydro reactive fuels that burns in vapor water and water supply from aboard is used. The main component of this hydro reactive fuel is the powder of active metal (Mg, Al) that can burn in water vapor with large heat generation in the rocket combustion chamber. The thermodynamic analysis of combustion properties of the burning of the particles of these active metal in the vapor water have been carried out. The conception for the possible content variants of the hydro reactive fuels have been discussed using the geometrical and thermodynamic combustion conditions with the basic recommendation for contents of designed hydro reactive fuels in future.

Simultaneous precision positioning and vibration suppression of reciprocating flexible manipulators

  • Simultaneous precision positioning and vibration suppression of a reciprocating flexible manipulator is investigated in this paper. The flexible manipulator is driven by a multifunctional active strut with fuzzy logic controllers. The multifunctional active strut is a combination of a motor assembly and a piezoelectric stack actuator to simultaneously provide precision positioning and wide frequency bandwidth vibration suppression capabilities. First, the multifunctional active strut and the flexible manipulator are introduced, and their dynamic models are derived. A control strategy is then proposed, which includes a position controller and a vibration controller to achieve simultaneous precision positioning and vibration suppression of the flexible manipulator. Next, fuzzy logic control approach is presented to design a fuzzy logic position controller and a fuzzy logic vibration controller. Finally, experiments are conducted for the fuzzy logic controllers and the experimental results are compared with those from a PID control scheme consisting of a PID position controller and a PID vibration control. The comparison indicates that the fuzzy logic controller can easily handle the non-linearity in the strut and provide higher position accuracy and better vibration reduction with less control power consumption.

Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) Active and Passive Methods

  • Shear modulus is directly linked to material's stiffness and is one of the most critical engineering parameters. Seismically, shear-wave velocity (Vs) is its best indicator. Although methods like refraction, down-hole, and cross-hole shear-wave surveys can be used, they are generally known to be tougher than any other seismic methods in field operation, data analysis, and overall cost. On the other hand, surface waves, commonly known as ground roll, are always generated in all seismic surveys with the strongest energy, and their propagation velocities are mainly determined by Vs of the medium. Furthermore, sampling depth of a particular frequency component of surface waves is in direct proportion to its wavelength and this property makes the surface wave velocity frequency dependent, i.e., dispersive. The multichannel analysis of surface waves (MASW) method tries to utilize this dispersion property of surface waves for the purpose of Vs profiling in 1-D (depth) or 2-D (depth and surface location) format. The active MASW method generates surface waves actively by using an impact source like sledgehammer, whereas the passive method utilizes those generated passively by cultural (e.g., traffic) or natural (e.g., thunder and tidal motion) activities. Investigation depth is usually shallower than 30 m with the active method, whereas it can reach a few hundred meters with the passive method. Overall procedures with both methods are briefly described.

Active Control of Clamped Beams using Acceleration Feedback Controllers (가속도 되먹임 제어기를 이용한 양단지지보의 능동 제어)

  • This paper reports active control of clamped beams using acceleration feedback controllers (AF). The equations of motion of clamped beam under force and moment pairs were derived and the equations of AF controllers were formulated. The effect of the parameters - gain and damping ratio - of the AF controllers on the open loop transfer function was investigated mainly in terms of the system stability. Increasing the gain of the AF controller tuned at a mode, the magnitude of the open loop transfer function is increased at all frequencies. The increase of the damping ratio of the AF controller leads to decrease the magnitude of the open loop transfer function and modifies its phase characteristics to be more stable. Three AF controllers connected in parallel were then proposed. Each AF controller is tuned at the 2nd, 3rd and 4th modes, respectively. Their parameters were determined to remain the system to be stable based on the results of the parametric study. A significant reduction in vibration at the 3 modes can be obtained.

A Study on the Full Active 4WS Control Method Using Nonlinear Tire Model (비선형 타이어모델을 이용한 완전능동형 4WS 제어방법에 관한 연구)

  • The understeer characteristics of four wheel steering system(4WS system) in a high speed region have a negative effect upon the yaw velocity, leading to a decrease in the handling ability of vehicle. As a result, even if the side slip angle of vehicle can be kept up a minimum, a driver must compensate a decrease in yaw velocity by increasing the steering wheel angle in order to track the desired vehicle path. In this study, to keep the side slip angle of vehicle at zero and achieve a suitable yaw velocity in vehicle motion, a full active 4WS system(FA 4WS system) with actively steerable front and rear wheels is presented based on a nonlinear vehicle model and a model following control of yaw velocity. And the analysis results show the fat that, besides the excellent stability of vehicle, the FA 4WS system is able to realize better handling performance of vehicle than the previous 4WS systems in the high speed region.

Effects of the Pelvic Control Method on Abdominal Muscle Activity and Lumbopelvic Rotation Angle during Active Straight Leg Raising in Patients with Chronic Low Back Pain (만성요통환자의 능동 하지직거상 동작 시 골반조절 방법에 따른 복부 근활성도와 요골반부 회전각도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to compare the effects of different methods of pelvic control on abdominal muscle activity and lumbopelvic rotation angle during active straight leg raising (ASLR) in patients with chronic back pain. Methods: The study participants were patients with low back pain (n = 30). They were instructed to perform ASLR with pelvic control, ASLR with pelvic belt, and ASLR only. Surface electromyography data were collected from the ipsilateral rectus femoris (IRF), ipsilateral internal oblique (IIO), contralateral external oblique (CEO), and ipsilateral rectus abdominal (IRA) muscles, and lumbopelvic rotation angle was measured using a motion analysis device. Results: Activation of all abdominal muscles was greater in the ASLR with pelvic control group than in the ASLR with pelvic belt and ASLR groups. The lumbopelvic rotation angle was lower in the ASLR with pelvic control group than in the other two groups (p < 0.05). Conclusion: These results suggest that ALSR with pelvic control is an effective means of increasing abdominal muscle activity and reducing unwanted lumbopelvic rotation in patients with chronic low back pain. Controlling the pelvis using the opposite leg is an effective form of ASLR exercise for patients with chronic low back pain.
