  • This study is devote to developing navigation filter for detecting sensor failure in multi-sensor navigation system. In multi-sensor navigation system, Kalman filter is generally used to fuse data of each sensors. Sensor failure is fatal in case that the sensor is used as external measurement of Kalman filter therefore detection and recovery of sensor failure is one the important feature of navigation filter. Generally each sensors have its specific feature in measuring navigational information. Fuzzy theory is proposed to detect external sensor failure and provide valid external measurement to Kalman filter avoiding filter divergence and instability. This idea is applied to Autonomous Underwater Vehicle(AUV) which has two navigation sensor i. e self contained inertial sensor and acoustic external sensor. 2 dimensional simulation result shows acceptable failure detection and recovery

  • Underwater ambient noise originating from the geophysical, biological, and man-made acoustic sources contains much information on the sources and the ocean environment affecting the performance of the sonar equipments. In this paper, a set of feature vectors of the ambient noises using MFCC is proposed and extracted to form a data base for the purpose of identifying the noise sources. The developed algorithm for the pattern recognition is applied to the observed ocean data, and the initial results are presented and discussed.

  • As mobile market grows more and more fast, the mobile contents market, especially music contents for mobile phones have recorded remarkable growth. In spite of this rapid growth, mobile web users experience high levels of frustration to search the desired music. New musics are very profitable to the content providers, but the existing collaborative filtering (CF) system can't recommend them. To solve these problems, we propose an extended CF system to reflect the user's real preference by representing the characteristics of users and musics in the feature space. We represent the musics using the music contents based acoustic features in multi-dimensional feature space, and then select a neighborhood with the distance based function. Furthermore, this paper suggests a recommendation for procedure for new music by matching new music with other users' preference. The suggested procedure is explained step by step with an illustration example.

  • This study examined the effect of English-language experience on Korean- and Japanese-English late learners' production of English unstressed vowels in terms of four acoustic phonetic features: F0, duration, intensity and vowel reduction. The learners manifested some improvement with experience. The native-like attainment of a phonetic feature, however, was related to the phonological status of that feature in the speakers' native language. The results suggest that the extent to which the non-native speakers' production of English unstressed vowels improved with English-language experience varied as a function of their native language background.

  • The purpose of this paper is to research voice imitation. Voice imitation changes various phonetic feature. Also, in our experimental results, voice imitation has preferential prosody difference. For imitating voice, imitators change their fundamental frequency bandwidths for the most part. Imitative speakers change their high fundamental frequencies effectively while they maintain their low fundamental frequencies. Also, excellent group is distinctly superior to common group for imitating prosodic patterns. That is, the f0 bandwidth's change and the prosodic patterns are significant in imitating voice. But the low f0 is maintain by all speakers.

  • In this paper, we propose a new voice coding using only the features of the face image such as mouth height(H), width(W), rate(R=W/H), area(S), and ellipse's feature(P). It provides high security and is not affected by acoustic noise because we use only the features of face image for speech. In the proposed algorithm, the mean recognition rate for the vowels approximately rises between 70% and 96% after many tests.

  • In this paper, I propose the experimental models to classify the consonants in the Vowel-Consonant-Vowel (VCV) speech chain into four phonemic groups such as nasals, liquids, plosives and the others. To classify the fuzzy patterns like speech, it is necessary to analyze the distribution of acoustic feature of many training data. The classification rules are maximum 4 th order polynomial functions obtained by regression analysis, contributing collectively the result. The final result shows about 87% success rates with the data spoken by one man.

  • Additive noise and channel distortion strongly degrade the performance of speaker verification systems, as it introduces distortion of the features of speech. This distortion causes a mismatch between the training and recognition conditions such that acoustic models trained with clean speech do not model noisy and channel distorted speech accurately. This paper presents a phase-related feature extraction method in order to improve the robustness of the speaker verification systems. The instantaneous frequency is computed from the phase of speech signals and features from the histogram of the instantaneous frequency are obtained. Experimental results show that the proposed technique offers significant improvements over the standard techniques in both clean and adverse testing environments.

  • This paper proposes a new feature extraction algorithm to improve children's speech recognition in Korean. The proposed feature extraction algorithm combines three methods. The first method is on the vocal tract length normalization to compensate acoustic features because the vocal tract length in children is shorter than in adults. The second method is to use the uniform bandwidth because children's voice is centered on high spectral regions. Finally, the proposed algorithm uses a smoothing filter for a robust speech recognizer in real environments. This paper shows the new feature extraction algorithm improves the children's speech recognition performance.

  • In this paper, we present effective methods for automatic music recommendation system which automatically recommend music by signal processing technology. Conventional music recommendation system use users’ music downloading pattern, but the method does not consider acoustic characteristics of music. Sometimes, similarities between music are used to find similar music for recommendation in some method. However, the feature used for calculating similarities is not highly related to music characteristics at the system. Thus, our proposed method use high-level music characteristics such as rhythm pattern, timbre characteristics, and the lyrics. In addition, our proposed method store features of music, which individuals queried, to recommend music based on individual taste. Experiments show the proposed method find similar music more effectively than a conventional method. The experimental results also show that the proposed method could be used for real-time application since the processing time for calculating similarities between music, and recommending music are fast enough to be applicable for commercial purpose.
