In this paper, we propose an indoor positioning algorithm based on 3 points near field angle-of-arrival estimation without side information. The conventional angle-of-arrival based positioning scheme requires the distance between the listener and the center of two points which is obtained by a received signal strength based range estimation. However, a received signal strength is affected by structure of room, placement of furniture, and characteristic of signal, these effects cause a large error to estimation of angle. In this paper, the proposed positioning scheme based on near field angle-of-arrival estimation can be used to estimate the position of listener without a prior distance information, just using time-difference-of-arrival information given from 3 points microphones. The performance of the proposed scheme is shown by cumulative distribution function of root mean squared error.

In this paper, a vital signal sensor based on impedance variation of resonator is presented. Proposed vital signal sensor can detect the vital signal, such as respiration and heart-beat signal. System is composed of resonator, oscillator, surface acoustic wave (SAW) filter, and power detector. The cyclical movement of a dielectric such as a human body, causes the impedance variation of resonator within the near-field range. So oscillator's oscillation frequency variation is effected on resonator's resonant frequency. SAW filter's skirt characteristic of frequency response can be transformed a small amount of frequency deviation to a large variation. Aim to enhance the existing sensor detection range, proposed sensor operates in 870 MHz ISM band, and detect respiration and heart-beat signal at distance of 120 mm.

The ride quality has become a key component of not only design but car selling as the technology developed and the requirement of passengers grew up. Thus car industry invests lots of time and cost for the higher ride quality. The evaluation of the ride quality mainly is expressed by subjective element that drivers felt. In this paper, instead of the original transfer path analysis method, relatively new methods such as OPAX(Operational path analysis with eXogeneous inputs) and OTPA(operational transfer path analysis) are used for analyzing the main hindrance element of ride quality. With those new method, contribution rate of all paths that the vibration propagate along analyzed after driving test on the roads having different characteristic. The comprehensive hindrance elements of ride quality are deduced from the contribution rate and the improve experiment by changing one of hindrance elements for higher ride quality.

MPEG-1 audio standard is the algorithm for the compression of high-qualify digital audio signals. The standard dictates the functions of encoder and decoder pair, and includes three different layers as the complexity and the performance of the encoder and decoder. In this paper, we implemented the real-time system of MPEG-1 audio layer III decoder(MP3) with the TMS320C541 fixed point DSP chip. MP3 algorithm uses psycho-acoustic characteristic of human hearing system, and it reduces the amount of data with eliminating the signals hard to be heard to the hearing system of human being. It is difficult to implement MP3 decoder with fixed Point DSP because of it's broad dynamic range. We implemented realtime system with fixed DSP chip by using weighted look-up tables to reduce the amount of calculation and solve the problem of broad dynamic range.

This paper compared wired Acoustic Emission (AE) signals with wireless AE signals. According to the material and process condition, each process signal has distinguishable characteristic to show each removal phenomenon. Therefore, wired and wireless AE sensors having different bandwidth are complementary for CMP process monitoring. Especially, the AE sensor was used to investigate abrasive and molecular-scale phenomena during CMP process, which was compatible to acquire high level frequency. In experiment, wireless AE system was used to get signals in rotary system, using bluetooth. But, it is possible to acquire only RMS signals, which can not analyze abrasive and molecular-sale phenomena. Second, wired AE system was installed using mercury slip-ring, which is suitable not only for rotation equipment but also for acquiring original signals. The acquired signals were analyzed by FFT for understanding of abrasive and molecular revel phenomena in CMP process, finally, we verified that two types of AE sensor with different bandwidth were complementary for CMP process monitoring.

Porous structures of aluminum foam have been studied. The apparent foam shape, foam hight, density, pore size, shape, and their distributions in various section areas of the experimental samples have been investigated. The sample have been cast into metallic mold, using aluminum foam prepared from a precursor based on pure Al ingot mixed with various amount of 1-2wt% increasing viscosity and foam agent materials. The process provides for flexibility in design of foam structures via relatively easy control over the amount of hydrogen evolution and the drainage processes which occur during foam formation. This is facilitated by manupulating parameters such as the foaming agent, thermal histories during solidification and mix melt viscosities. The acoustical performance of the panel made with the foamed aluminum is considerably improved; its absorption coefficient shows NRC 0.6-0.8. It has been found that the Al foam is very preferable for the compactness of the thermal system.
In this paper, we propose a biomimetic communication method using a dolphin whistle to covertly transmit the communication signal. A conventional CSS (Chirp Spread Spectrum) modulation technique divides dolphin whistle into several slots and modulates with up and down chirp signals. That causes the time-frequency characteristic difference between the original dolphin whistle and the camouflage performance is degraded. In this paper, we propose a delay based modulation scheme to eliminate distortions. The simulation results show that the bit error rate of the proposed method is better performance than that of the conventional CSS modulation method by about 3.5 dB to 8 dB. And the camouflage performance that evaluated through the cross correlation in the time-frequency domain is also better than that of the CSS modulation method.

A flat-type piezoelectric ceramic ultrasonic transmitter was successfully fabricated for application in acoustic devices with cone-free diaphragms. The transmitter, possessing a center frequency of 40.6 kHz, exhibited a higher displacement characteristic for a multilayer type compared with a single layer type. Surface roughness treatment of an Al elastic diaphragm influenced a slight increase (1.1 dB) in the sound pressure level (SPL) at $10V_{rms}$ due to the enlarged surface area. The fabricated multilayer piezoelectric ceramic ultrasonic transmitter showed increasing SPL with increasing input voltage, with a maximum SPL of approximately 123.6 dB at $10V_{rms}$. This implies a doubly increased SPL density of $3.6dB/mm^3$, superior to that of a commercial open-type transmitter with a cone.
Early detection of small concrete crack or reinforcement corrosion is necessary for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). Global vibration based methods are advantageous over local methods because of simple equipment installation and cost efficiency. Among vibration based techniques, FRF based methods are preferred over modal based methods. In this study, a new coupled method using frequency response function (FRF) and proper orthogonal modes (POM) is proposed by using the dynamic characteristic of a damaged beam. For the numerical simulation, wave finite element (WFE), coupled with traditional finite element (FE) method is used for effectively incorporating the damage related information and faster computation. As reported in literature, hybrid combination of wave function based wave finite element method and shape function based finite element method can addresses the mid frequency modelling difficulty as it utilises the advantages of both the methods. It also reduces the dynamic matrix dimension. The algorithms are implemented on a three-dimensional reinforced concrete beam. Damage is modelled and studied for two scenarios, i.e., crack in concrete and rebar corrosion. Single and multiple damage locations with different damage length are also considered. The proposed methodology is found to be very sensitive to both single- and multiple- damage while being computationally efficient at the same time. It is observed that the detection of damage due to corrosion is more challenging than that of concrete crack. The similarity index obtained from the damage parameters shows that it can be a very effective indicator for appropriately indicating initiation of damage in concrete structure in the form of spread corrosion or invisible crack.
Sound radiated from a structure in vibration is an important physical characteristic to evaluate vibro-acoustic problem. Although sound radiation power can be typically obtained by intensity measurement, long measuring time and strict measuring condition remain difficult. As an alternative method, simulation-based estimation can be taken into account and its accuracy is known to be acceptable. However, difficulty still lies in that specialized softwares may be necessary to obtain sound radiation power and radiation efficiency. In this context, this study suggests two methods using an ordinary FE method to calculate sound radiation power. They are well-known reciprocity technique and p-p method, which are basically test methods. It is shown that either method can practically estimate sound radiation in the frame of conventional Finite Element Method (FEM). The methods and their corresponding limit are discussed with some results.
