  • The effects of texturing and anti-reflection coating on the reflection properties of multi-crystalline silicon solar cell have been investigated. The chemical solutions of alkaline and acidic etching solutions were used for texturing at the surface of multi-crystalline Si wafer. Experiments were performed with various temperature and time conditions in order to determine the optimized etching condition. Alkaline etching solution was found inadequate to the texturing of multi-crystalline Si due to its high reflectance of about 25%. The reflectance of Si wafer texturing with acidic etching solution showed a very low reflectance about 10%, which was attributed to the formation of homogeneous. Also, deposition of ITO anti-reflection coating reduced the reflectance of multi-crystalline si etched with acidic solution($HF+HNO_3$) to 2.6%.

Heterologous Expression of a Putative $K^+/H^+$ Antiporter of S. coelicolor A3(2) Enhances $K^+$, Acidic-pH Shock Tolerances, and Geldanamycin Secretion

  • Heterologous expression of a putative $K^+/H^+$ antiporter of Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) (designated as sha4) in E. coli and Streptomyces hygroscopicus JCM4427 showed enhanced tolerance to $K^+$ stress, acidic-pH shock, and/or geldanamycin production under $K^+$ stress. In a series of $K^+$ extrusion experiments with sha4-carrying E. coli deficient in the $K^+/H^+$ antiporter, a restoration of impaired $K^+$ extrusion activity was observed. Based on this, it was concluded that sha4 was a true $K^+/H^+$ antiporter. In different sets of experiments, the sha4-carrying E. coli showed significantly improved tolerances to $K^+$ stresses and acidic-pH shock, whereas sha4-carrying S. hygroscopicus showed an improvement in $K^+$ stress tolerance only. The sha4-carrying S. hygroscopicus showed much higher geldanamycin productivity than the control under $K^+$ stress condition. In another set of experiments with a production medium, the secretion of geldanamycin was also significantly enhanced by the expression of sha4.

Cu, Pb, As 복합 중금속오염 토양의 전기동력학적 정화에서 전해질의 영향 평가 (Evaluation of Processing Fluids on Electrokinetic remediation of Cu, Pb, As-contaminated soil)

  • Electrokinetic technology was applied to remediate Cu, Pb and As-contaminated paddy soil. Removal of metal is highly dependent on the processing fluid during electrokinetic treatment. Tap water, NaOH, $HNO_3$, $Na_2EDTA$, and citric acid were evaluated as the processing fluids to enhance metal removal. Cu and Pb were transported toward cathode, however, it did not removed from soil section, while 56.6% of As was removed at a acidic condition. The strong acidic condition with nitric acid as a processing fluid enhanced the desoprtion of As from soil surface. However, longer operation time is needed to get the higher removal of Cu and Pb, and the acidification of soil after electrokinetic treatment should be solved.

Material and rheological properties of (glycidoxypropyl) trimethoxysilane modified colloidal silica coatings

  • Colloidal coating solution was prepared to enhance the hydrophilic property of the film surface. Water and ethanol were used as the dispersion media and (glycidoxypropyl) trimethoxysilane (GPS) as a binder in the colloidal silica coatings. Ethylene diamine was added to the colloidal silica solution as the curing agent. The colloidal silica solution was regarded as a hard-sphere suspension model with low volume fraction of the silica particles. Rheological properties of the silica suspensions modified with GPS have been investigated as a function of pH and concentration. The acidic solution showed high viscosity change by fast hydrolysis reaction and adsorption of the organic binders on the surface of silica particles. However, the hydrolysis was slow at the basic condition and the binders combined with themselves by condensation. The viscosity change was smallest at pH 7. The viscosity increased with the curing time after adding ethylenediamine, and the increase of viscosity at low pH was higher than that at high pH. The hydrophilic properties of the coating film were investigated by the contact angle of water and film surface. The smallest contact angle was shown under the strong acidic condition of pH 2.

양모섬유의 염색시 디스아조계 산성염료의 변색현상 규명 (The Investigation on Color Change of Dis-azo Acid Dye in Wool Dyeing)

  • It is already known that the color of wool fabric dyed with disazo acid dyes could be changed in dyeing process and this is accelerated under alkaline condition. Focus was given to figuring out the mechanism of this color change, through the LC-MS analysis. In this study, no color change was seen in wool fabrics dyed with C. I. Acid Blue 113 under weak acidic, neutral and weak alkaline conditions for 1hour. However, the wool fabrics dyed under weak alkaline condition for a long time over 3 hours fumed reddish orange. When the wool fabrics dyed under weak acidic, neutral and weak alkaline conditions were treated with $0.5g/L\;Na_2C0_3$ solution, all of them turned reddish orange. On the other hand, the color of silk fabrics dyed with C. I. Acid Blue 113 were not changed after the same alkaline treatment. Wool contains cystine and cysteine, whereas silk does not. Due to the reversible reduction/oxidation process of cystine and cysteine in wool dyeing, the C. I. Acid Blue 113 of the dis-azo type is decomposed by reduction and consequently turned them into the reddish orange mono-azo types dye.

  • Coagulation can be used for pretreatment of NF membrane filtration. Foulants such as organic matter and particulate can be removed effectively with the process while high flux recovery is maintained. Recently various types of polyaluminium coagulants including polyaluminium chloride(PAC) are commercially available for water treatment. This study examines effects of polymeric Al and hydrolysis products of PAC on nanofiltration membrane performance. Dominant hydrolysis products were polymeric Al, $Al(OH)_3$, and ${Al(OH)_4}^{-1}$ at acidic, neutral, and alkaline pH conditions, respectively. Under acidic pH condition, flux decline was increased with increasing PAC concentrations, possibly due to polymeric Al adsorption on membrane pore and/or surfaces. For neutral and alkaline pH conditions, little flux decline was observed with increasing PAC concentrations except the highest ${Al(OH)_4}^{-1}$ concentration, with which rapid flux decline was shown. Removal of ionic matters was also varied with pH conditions in this study. Especially, conductivity removal was substantially low and $Ca^{2+}$ concentration in the permeate was quite high at neutral pH condition.

  • 혼합 amino acid의 선택적 분리를 위해 bulk liquid membrane system을 이용하였으며, p-diamethylaminobenzaldehyde(DAB), sulfosalicylic acid (SSA), 1-naphtol이 amino acid의 선택적 분리를 위한 효과적인 carrier로 사용될 수 있음을 확인하였다. 그 결과 sulfosalicylicacid에 대해서 Ala에 대한 선택성을 관찰할 수 있었으며, 1-naphtol에 대해서는 염기성 상태에서 Leu을 약산성 및 중성상태에서는 Val을 선택적으로 분리할 수 있었다. DAB에 대해서는 강산성에서 Phe을, 강알카리 조건에서 Ile를 선택적으로 분리할 수 있었다. Separation mechanism은 SSA와 1-naphtol의 경우에는 ion pair mechanism으로, DAB의 경우에는 imine 결합의 생성반응으로 설명할 수 있었다. 따라서, Liquid membrane을 이용한 생체시료 내의 아미노산을 선택적으로 분리함에 유용성이 클 것으로 사료된다.

  • In this study, the ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetraflouroborate (EMI-BF4) was synthesized and purified using the liquid/liquid fractional distillation method to apply a supercapacitor. EMI-BF4 was extracted with dichloromethane from the liquid/liquid extraction method in acidic, neutral, and alkali conditions for removal of impurity, and then the electrical capacities of the purified ionic liquids were measured and compared. The electrical capacities of ionic liquids under acidic condition showed higher value than those of neutral or alkali conditions. As the ratio of ionic liquid to solvent became higher, the electrical capacity value was increased.

  • This study was made to investigate the effect of silk fabrics treated with mimosa and tannic acid-weighting effect, surface color according to temprature, treatment time, concentration, pH. The results were as follows ; 1. The wavelength of maximum absorption of mimosa and tannic acid solution appeared at 278.5nm and 275.0nm, respectively. By the irradiation, spectra at wavelength of maximum absorption of mimosa solution disappeared, but those of tannic acid solution decreased after 48hr irradiation. 2. The tannin weighting increased with the increase of concentration, treatment temperature at 8$0^{\circ}C$, acidic condition. In case of tannic acid, it was higher than mimosa. 3. Surface color of silk fabric with mimosa changed from 2.8YR to 5.8YR acc-ording to the increase o( tannin concentration but in case of tannic acid itchanged from 4.2Y to 3.9Y. It was more changed acidic or alkaline conditionthan origine solution.

  • Safflower is natural red dye largely used for dyeing on cotton. It contains yellowish safflower yellow and reddish carthamin, whose constitution is known. Safflower yellow is water-soluble dye and carthamin is solved in alkaline condition. Carthamon obtained by adding acidic solution to a carthamin shows the original hue of safflower. In present study, the dyeing behavior of natural dye known as safflower are examined in an aqueous acidic medium by use of the different dyeing methods such as traditional, modern and purifide-powder method. The relationship between the dye-uptake of cotton fabric investigated by the three methods and the various dyeing conditions is discussed.
