  • The submicron $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ powder was prepared by the sol-gel method. The particle size is distributed from 0.2 to 1.0 ${\mu}m$, which benefits to eliminate the micro-cracks formed in the $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ films deposited by electrophoresis. The powder was single phase of $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ examined by X-ray diffraction. In the sol-gel process the citrate gel was formed from citric acid and nitrate solution of $Y_2O_3$, $Ba(NO_3)_2$ and CuO. When pH values were adjusted to 6.4-6.7, $Ba(NO_3)_2$ could be dissolved in the citrate solution completely. Appropriate evaporative temperature of the sol-gel formation is discussed. Acetone is used as electrophoreticsolution, in which some water and iodine (0.2 g/1) and polyethylene glycol (2 vol. %) are added. The concentrations of $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ powders is 20g/l. The thickness of deposited film could be more than 50 ${\mu}m$ in 3 minutes of depositing time. The most EPD films could be 90K zero resistance and the Jc values were over 1000A/cm2 (0 H, 77 K).

  • The carboxylates as a corrosion inhibitor has been studied by many researchers because of its environmental safety and low depletion rate. However, conventional test methods of inhibitor such as weight loss measurements, linear polarization resistance and corrosion potential monitoring etc., evaluate uniform corrosion of metals. These methods are unable to evaluate crevice-related corrosions, which are encountered in most of heat exchanging facilities. In order to choose the optimum corrosion inhibitor, the appropriate test methods are required to evaluate their performances in service environment. From this point of view, polarization technique was used to evaluate the characteristics of sodium heptanoate on corrosion behavior for carbon steel. Especially a thin film crevice sensor technique were applied to simulate the crevice corrosion in this study. From these experiments, we found that oxygen as an oxidizing agent was required to obtain stable passive film on the metal. Presence of oxygen, however, accelerated crevice corrosion. Potential shift by oxygen depletion and weakened inhibitive film inside the crevice were responsible for such accelerated feature. It is shown that film for corrosion inhibition is a mixture of sodium heptanoate and iron (II) heptanoate as reaction product of iron surface and sodium heptanoate. The iron (II) heptanoate which has been synthesized by reaction of heptanoic acid and ferrous chloride in methanol solution forms bidentate complex.

  • We reported an outbreak of Aeromonas (A.) veronii responsible for ulcerative dermatitis in Israeli carp (Cyprinus carpio). The major clinical signs were darkening body, abdominal extension, exophthalmos and severe ulcerative necrosis in the skin. The necropsy showed yellowish ascites, necrosis in liver and enlargement of kidney and spleen in the morbid fish. In blood agar for culturing bacteria, three different colonies were identified as A. veronii, Plesimonas shigelloides and Shewanella putrefaciens by phylogenetic identification using 16S rRNA or gyrB gene sequences. A. veronii was the most dominant species among them and was resistant to ampicillin, nalidixic acid and oxytetracycline.

  • Graphene, $sp^2$-hybridized 2-Dimension carbon material, has drawn enormous attention due to its desirable performance of excellent properties. Graphene can be applied for many electronic devices such as field-effect transistors (FETs), touch screen, solar cells. Furthermore, indium tin oxide (ITO) is commercially used and sets the standard for transparent electrode. However, ITO has certain limitations, such as increasing cost due to indium scarcity, instability in acid and basic environments, high surface roughness and brittle. Due to those reasons, graphene will be a perfect substitute as a transparent electrode. We report the graphene synthesized by inductive coupled plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (ICP-PECVD) process on Cu substrate. The growth was carried out using low temperature at $400^{\circ}C$ rather than typical chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process at $1,000^{\circ}C$ The low-temperature process has advantage of low cost and also low melting point materials will be available to synthesize graphene as substrate, but the drawback is low quality. To improve the quality, the factor affect the quality of graphene was be investigated by changing the plasma power, the flow rate of precursors, the scenario of precursors. Then, graphene film's quality was investigated with Raman spectroscopy and sheet resistance and optical emission spectroscopy.

  • Hollow fibers were made using the nickel slurry containing nickel particles and polymers by phase inversion method. And then, metallic filters were fabricated by sintering method at $1,150^{\circ}C$ under reduction condition. Metallic microfiltration membranes were prepared by coating nickel particles on the metallic filter. The properties of the metallic hollow fiber filters and microfiltration membranes such as pore size and strength were investigated. The metallic membrane showed good resistance against acid, base and chlorine. It was observed that the membrane exhibited good recovery rate by back washing.

  • For the biocompatibility test of implantable devices or for the sensitivity evaluation of biomedical sensors, it is required to understand the mechanism of the protein adsorption and the interaction between the adsorbed proteins and cells. In this study, the adsorption of proteins in a cell culture medium with fetal bovine serum onto an indium tin-oxide electrode was characterized by using linear sweep voltammetry and impedance spectroscopy. We immersed the fabricated ITO electrodes in the culture medium for 30, 60, or 90 min, and then measured the electrochemical properties of electrodes with 10 mM $Fe(CN){_6}^{3-/4-}$ and 0.1 M KCl electrolyte. With an increase of contacting time, the anodic peak current was decreased and the charge transfer resistance was increased. However, both parameters were recovered to the values before contact with the medium after the treatment of Trypsin/Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid hydrolyzing proteins.

  • A gene from Paenibacillus sp. KCTC 8848P encoding ${\beta}-amylase$ was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. The Paenibacillus ${\beta}-amylase$ gene cosisted of a 2,409-bp open reading frame without a translational stop codon, encoding a protein of 803 amino acids. The presumed ribosime-binding site, GGAGG, was located 10 bp upstream from the TTG initiation codon. The deduced amino acid sequence of the ${\beta}-amylase$ gene had a 95% similarity to the ${\beta}-amylase$ of Bacillus firmus. The ${\beta}-amylase$ gene was introduced into wild-type strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae using a linearized yeast integrating vector containing a geneticin resistance gene and its product was secreted into the culture medium.

  • In this study, epidemiological cut-off values were estimated for 44 Photobacterium damselae isolates, since clinical breakpoints have not been established for this pathogenic bacterium. The susceptibility of the isolates to 10 antibiotics was evaluated using internationally standardized disc diffusion protocols. Normalized resistance interpretation was used to generate statistically valid epidemiological cut-off values for the susceptibility data. There were not enough strains exhibiting full sensitivity to ampicillin and amoxicillin to allow analysis of these antibiotics. Because there were only a marginally sufficient number of strains exhibiting full sensitivity to oxytetracycline, the cut-off value generated provided only a provisional estimate. The valid wild-type cut-off values were <13, 13, 9, 22, 25, 27, and 28 mm for gentamicin, cephalexin, erythromycin, oxolinic acid, flumequine, florfenicol, and sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, respectively. The application of these cut-off values should greatly facilitate the rational selection of antibiotics for use in commercial fish farms.

  • The effects of silicone contents and flow rates(agitation rates) of electrolyte on the formation and mechanical properties of hard anodized film of Al-Si alloy have been studied in 12% H2SO4 + 1% Oxalic acid with varying the silicone contents in the rance of 0 to 11.6% and the flow rates of electrolyte in the range of 0 to 90cm/sec. The film forming voltage required to maintain an equivalent current density significantly increase with the silicone content of Al-Si alloys due to a low conductivity of silicone. Hardness and wear resistance of the anodized film of Al-Si alloys decreases wit increasing the silicone content. The increase in the flow rate of electrolyte has a similar influence on the formation and mechanical properties of anodized film as does the decrease in bath temperature. Hardness of anodized film is rapidly increased with the flow rate being increased from 10cm/sec. It is observed that the increase in the flow rate from 11cm/sec. It is observed that the increase in the flow from 11cm/sec to 48cm/sec is more effective in enhancing the hardness of film than is the decrease in bath temperature from 1$0^{\circ}C$ to $0^{\circ}C$.

  • Effects of alloying elements on the corrosion layer formation of Pb-grid/active materials interface has been researched for improvement of corrosion resistance of Pb-Ca alloy. For this research, various amounts of alloying elements such as Sn, Ag and Ba were added to the Pb-Ca alloys and investigated their corrosion behaviors. Batteries fabricated by using these alloys as cathode grids were subjected to life cycle test. Overcharge life cycle test was carried out at $75^{\circ}C$, 4.5 A, for 110 hrs. with KS standard (KSC 8504). And then, after keeping the battery with open circuit state for 48 hr, discharge was carried out at 300A for 30 sec. Corrosion morphology and interface between Pb-grid and active materials were investigated by using ICP, SEM, WDX, and LPM. Corrosion layer of Pb-Ca alloy got thicken with increasing Ca content. For Pb-Ca-Sn alloy, thickness of corrosion layer decreased as Sn and Ag content increased gradually. In case of Pb-Ca-Sn-Ba alloy, thickness of corrosion layer decreased up to 0.02 wt% Ba addition, whereas, it was not changed in case of above 0.02 wt% Ba addition.
