Heterogeneous membranes were prepared by compression molding for the recovery of ammonium ion from waste water. Degree of sulfonation for sulfonated ion exchange resin increased with increasing amount of chlorosulfonic acid. It was 3.32 meq/g at 10 vol%. The tensile strength and elongation of the heterogeneous membrane was decreased with increasing contents of ion exchange resin. The tensile strength for LLDPE matrix membrane was the highest and also the elongation for EVA matrix membranes were the highest. The water content of heterogeneous membrane was increased with increasing contents of ion exchange resin. The maximum value of transport number for PE matrix membrane was 0.973. The electrical resistance of LLDPE matrix membrane was the lowest. It was value of $10.36{\Omega}/cm^2$ at 70 wt% resins.
The growth characteristics and the cellular protein patterns of the Lactobacillus plantarum isolated and identified from oat silage were examined in order to confirm whether it will be used practically as probiotics or not. L plantarum was identified by morphological and biochemical tests including of final conforming by API 50CHL kit. The cultivation in MRS broth of the strain under the condition of different temperature, proved that they grew into $2.0{\times}10^{9}$ in $25^{\circ}C$, into $1.4{\times}10^{9}$ in $35^{\circ}C$ but they decreased into $4.5{\times}10^{5}$ growth in $45^{\circ}C$. The comparison of the growth by measurement of O.D600nm value after 24 hour cultivation between L plantarum and commercial probiotics, showed that the strain had a higher growth than commercial as 1.841 : 1.623. The measurement of it under bile acid's existence, indicated that this isolation was not influenced by bile acid and the tolerance was $3.2{\times}10^{9}$, $3.9{\times}10^{9}$ and $3.2{\times}10^{9}$, respectively, when each of 0%, 1%, and 2% oxigall existed. The examination of their antibiotics susceptibility by disk diffusion test, proved that L plantarum showed resistance against danofloxacin(5mcg), gentamycin(10mcg), kanamycin(30mcg), neomycin(30mcg) and streptomycin(10mcg). Based upon the test of the bacteriocin formation of this L plantarum, it was found out that the inhibition zone was not formed. In growth of L plantarum and E coli in nutrient broth, all E coli died out within 6 hours after cultures.

The characteristic biodegradation of monomeric styrene by Phanerochaete chrysosporium KFRI 20742, Trametes versicolor KFRI 20251 and Daldinia concentrica KFRI 40-1 was carried out to examine the resistance, its degradation efficiency and metabolites analysis. The estrogenic reduction effect of styrene by the fungi was also evaluated. The mycelium growth of fungi differentiated depending on the concentration levels of styrene. Additionally P. chrysosporium KFRI 20742 showed superior mycelium growth at less than 200 mg/l, while D. concentrica KFRI 40-1 was more than 200 mg/l. The degradation efficiency reached 99 % during one day of incubation for all the fungi. Both manganese-dependent peroxidase and laccase activities in liquid medium were the highest at the initial stage of incubation, whereas the lowest was after the addition of styrene. However, both activities were gradually recovered after. The major metabolites of styrene by P. chrysosporium KFRI 20742 were 2-phenyl ethanol, benzoic acid, cyclohexadiene-1,4-dione, butanol and succinic acid. From one to seven days of incubating the fungi, the expression of pS2 mRNA widely known as an estrogen response gene was decreased down to the level of baseline after one day. Also, the estrogenic effect of styrene completely disappeared after treatment with supernatant of P. chrysosporium KFRI 20742 from one week of culture down to the levels of vehicle.
The influence of noxious corrosive gas, which is the product of fossil fuel, and the acidic descent material, which becomes the reason for such reaction, on wax which protects the cultural assets, and the habitat factor were researched. It could be viewed that corrosion occurred rapidly due to the acidic descent material, which have the long staying on the material, rather than harmful corrosive gas. Also, it could be figured out that such corrosion began from whitening phenomenon of coated wax. As the acidity increased, more whitening phenomenon occurred, and eventually, it could be found out that whitening effect began due to the acidic descent material, corrosive gas and various 0.1 M acid solution, which lead to the exposure of internal metal, and corrosion occurred. The wax with the greatest resistance to the acidity due to its least changing aspect seemed to be Renaissance wax, except sulfuric acid.
Background: Despite the large number of studies on ginseng, pharmacological activities of ginseng seed oil (GSO) have not been established. GSO is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, mostly oleic and linoleic acids. Unsaturated fatty acids are known to exert a therapeutic effect in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). In this study, we investigated the protective effect and underlying mechanisms of GSO against NAFLD using in vitro and in vivo models. Methods: In vitro lipid accumulation was induced by free fatty acid mixture in HepG2 cells and by 3 wk of high fat diet (HFD)-feeding in Sprague-Dawley rats prior to hepatocyte isolation. The effects of GSO against diet-induced hepatic steatosis were further examined in C57BL/6J mice fed a HFD for 12 wk. Results: Oil Red O staining and intracellular triglyceride levels showed marked accumulation of lipid droplets in both HepG2 cells and rat hepatocytes, and these were attenuated by GSO treatment. In HFD-fed mice, GSO improved HFD-induced dyslipidemia and hepatic insulin resistance. Increased hepatic lipid contents were observed in HFD-fed mice and it was lowered in GSO (500 mg/kg)-treated mice by 26.4% which was evident in histological analysis. Pathway analysis of hepatic global gene expression indicated that GSO increased the expression of genes associated with ${\beta}$-oxidation (Ppara, Ppargc1a, Sirt1, and Cpt1a) and decreased the expression of lipogenic genes (Srebf1 and Mlxipl), and these were confirmed with reverse transcription and quantitative polymerase-chain reaction. Conclusion: These findings suggest that GSO has a beneficial effect on NAFLD through the suppression of lipogenesis and stimulation of fatty acid degradation pathway.

Waterborne polyurethane dispersions (PUD) were synthesized from poly (carbonate diol), isophrone diisocyanate and dimethylol propionic acid at different NCO/OH molar ratios. Subsequently, the PUD was mixed with different types of alkali metal salts ($LiClO_4$, $NaClO_4$, and $KClO_4$) to prepare antistatic waterborne polyurethane coating solutions. Effects of the types and amounts of alkali metal salts were investigated on the surface resistances of the resulting coating films. The surface resistances of coating films were decreased with increasing the amounts of alkali metal salts added in the PUD. The coating films prepared with the same amount of alkali metal salts showed increased ionic conductivity with the order of $LiClO_4$ > $NaClO_4$ > $KClO_4$. Also, the surface resistances of coating films were increased with increasing the molar ratios of NCO/OH in the PUD.

Acrylic terminated polyurethane prepolymers were synthesized by capping the NCO groups of polyurethane prepolymers, prepared from isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), polycarbonate diol (PCD) and dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA), with pentaerythritol triacrylate (PETA). Subsequently, silylated acrylic terminated prepolymers were prepared by capping the NCO groups of acrylic terminated polyurethane prepolymers with different types of silane coupling agents, glycidoxypropyl trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) or aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APS). The average particle size of pure waterborne polyurethane solution, measured by the dynamic light scattering method, was increased from 14.3 nm to 208.6 nm by adding PETA and APS. Also, the coating film of silylated acrylic terminated waterborne polyurethane showed better abrasion resistance and pencil hardness than that of pure waterborne polyurethane.

The objective of this study was to estimate the environmental factors affecting milk ${\beta}$-hydroxybutyric acid (BHBA) and acetone (Ac) concentrations in Holstein cattle. A total of 264,221 test-day records collected from the Korea Animal Improvement Association (KAIA) during the period of 2012 to 2014 were used in this study. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed to determine the factors significantly affecting ketone body concentrations. Parameters considered in the model were season of test, season of calving, parity, lactation stage, and milk collecting time (AM and PM). According to the ANOVA, the $R^2$ for milk BHBA and Ac were 0.5226 and 0.4961, respectively. 'Season of test' showed a considerable influence on ketone body concentration. Least square (LS) means for milk BHBA concentrations was the lowest ($39.04{\mu}M$) in winter while it increased up to $62.91{\mu}M$ in summer. But Ac concentration did not significantly change along with 'season of test'. The means of milk BHBA and Ac concentrations were high at first lactation stage, low around second lactation stage, and then gradually increased. Cows milked in the morning had lower mean BHBA and Ac concentrations ($48.49{\mu}M$ and $121.69{\mu}M$, respectively) in comparison to those milked in the evening ($53.46{\mu}M$ and $130.42{\mu}M$, respectively). The LS means of BHBA and Ac slightly increased over parities. These results suggest that proper maintenance of milk collection, herd management programs, and evaluation of ketone body levels in milk should be considered for the efficient management of resistance to ketosis.

In this study, polyurethane dispersion was prepared by polyester polyol, 4,4-dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate ($H_{12}MDI$), dimethylolpropionic acid (DMPA), and monomeric diol. The effect of various monomeric diol, polyol/monomeric diol molar ratio and DMPA contents on the properties of polyurethane dispersion were investigated. As the molecular weight of monomeric diol and monomeric diol molar ratio increased, $T_g$ gradually increased. And when DMPA contents increased, also $T_g$ gradually increased. In the results of mechanical properties, when the molecular weight of monomeric diol, monomeric diol molar ratio of polyol/monomeric diol and DMPA contents increased, tensile strength was increased. Finally, optimum peel strength obtained when polyol/monomeric diol ratio was 8 : 2.
This experiment was undertaken to investigate proper conditions for protoplast isolation and genetic transformation of the white rot fungi, Polyporus brumalis. The protoplasts were formed from mycelia at a frequency of $1{\times}10^7/ml$ with 0.5% Usukizyme. The transformation vector (pHYgpt) was constructed using hygromycin resistance gene (hph) for the selectable maker. The yield was 100-160 transformants/${\mu}g$ DNA in a transformation mediated by 40% polyethylene glycol solution with aurintricarboxylic acid, heparin and supermidine. The genomic integration of the pHYgpt was confirmed by hph-specific PCR and the expected amplified band appeared only in the transformants. These results could be an efficient tool in gene engineering of the genus polyporus.
