  • The asphalt antistripping agents were synthesized from ethylenediamine (ED) or N,N'-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine (HEED) with three different fatty acids. The formation of amide bonds were successfully performed and confirmed by FT-IR and $^1H-NMR$ data. The adhesive properties of antistripping agents were compared in terms of contact angle and BBS test. The reaction product of ED with waste animal fat exhibited the most hydrophobic by the contact angle measurement, and the strongest water resistance of 94 % by BBS test. However, the reaction product of ED with waste vegetable oil showed the strongest absolute bond strength of ca. 3610 and 3227 kPa for before and after water conditioning, respectively. For the bond strength in general, the reaction products of ED were superior to HEED reaction products, and the reaction products of animal fat and waste vegetable oil were superior to those of pure soybean oil.

  • This research was carried out to investigate the component isolation method from liquefied waste paper. and isolated component was analyzed by molecular weight distribution with gel chromatography and nitrobenzene-oxidation analysis. In the aspect of liquefaction ratio, wet defibration fiber are better than dry defibration fiber because of wet defiberation fiber was easy to access of chemical solution. The optimal liquefaction condition of waste paper was treated at 190℃ for 60 min(cresol 2 ㎖, water 4 ㎖, phosphoric acid 0.5 ㎖ based on waste paper 1 g). In the liquefied waste paper, lignin and carbohydrate were separated with two interfacial layer(cresol layer, water layer). In the chemical analysis of isolated lignin, molecular weight distribution of isolated lignin was below 1,000.

  • Recycling method of waste LCD glass is the essential process for developing the total recycling process of LCD pannel. Pulverizing of LCD glass, determination of proper carbonacious foaming agent, the properties of residue from the recovery of valuable materials through an acid leaching process and the feasibility for the foaming of the residue obtained from leaching for indium and tin recovery were investigated for the developing of recycling method of waste LCD glass as industrial feed materials, such as heat insulation materials, sound absorbing materials, carrier of water treatment. Waste LCD glass could be pulverized finely for foaming process. Natural graphite was proper agent for foaming of the residue and the foaming technology of LCD glass would be effective recycling alternatives.

  • Total extraction of stream sediments in the Kwangyang mine area shows their significant pollution with most trace metals such as Cr, Co, Fe, Pb, Cu, Ni, Zn and Cd, due to sulfide oxidation in waste dumps. Calculations of enrichment factor shows that Chonam-ri creek sediments are more severely contaminated than Sagok-ri sediments. Using the weak acid (0.1N HCl) extraction and sequential extraction techniques, the transport and sediment-water partitioning of heavy metals in mine drainage were examined for contaminated sediments in the Chonam-ri and Sagok-ri creeks of the Kwangyang Au-Ag mine area. Calculated distribution coefficient (Kd) generally decreases in the order of Pb $\geq$Al > Cu > Mn > Zn > Co > Ni $\geq$ Cd. Sequential extraction of Chonam-ri creek sediments shows that among non-residual fractions the Fe-Mn oxide fraction is most abundant for most of the metals. This indicates that precipitation of Fe hydroxides plays an important role in regulating heavy metal concentrations in water, as shown by field observations.

  • The purpose of this study is the efficient biological treatment of highly concentrated nitrate nitrogen by calcium ion control present within the pickling wastewater. In laboratory scale's experiments research was performed using a sequencing batch reactor and the evaluation of denitrification reaction in accordance with the injection condition of calcium ions, the surface properties of microorganisms, and the evaluation of sludge precipitability were performed. Results of the study showed that the denitrification reaction was delayed when injecting more than 600 mg/L of the calcium ion within the denitrification process. In addition, we observed the absorption form of calcium ions absorbed on the surface of microorganisms following an increase in the calcium ion dose. It was found that as the calcium ion dose increased the sludge precipitability also increased continuously and it is judged that a smooth denitrification induction is possible when treating the nitrate nitrogen by the calcium ion control of pickling waste water and the shortening of precipitation time enables a liquid operation to increase the reaction time.

  • The research was carried out to investigate the contamination of stream water by the acid mine drainage originated from the abandoned coal mines and coal waste rock in Keumsan, Chungnam. The pH, sulfate and chemical compositions in the stream water were analyzed. At the polluted sites, the pH of stream water was the strong acid, ranging from 3.46 to 4.29. The pH shows negative correlations with sulfate, manganese, copper, zinc, iron and magnesium concentrations. Sulfate concentrations of the polluted stream water, 236.73-310.53mg/l, had 10 times more than those of the non-polluted stream water. The concentrations of heavy metals, Mn and Fe, in the polluted water were 0.56 - 0.83mg/l and 5.89 - 10.58mg/l, respectively. The Mn concentrations were 20 times higher than those of the non-polluted stream water. Compared with those in the non-polluted stream water, the Mg and Ca concentrations in the polluted stream water were high because of leaching from rock and soil to water by the acidifications. Calculated AMDI(Acid Mine Drainage Index) values are low in the polluted stream water, relative to those of the non-polluted water.

  • With the gradual expansion of copper demands, the utilization of enormous tonnages of waste copper mineral containig up to 0.5% copper becomes available. In order to investigate the possibilities on the application of bacterial leaching method to waste dumps or abandoned mines, the authors had carried out microbial leaching of copper minerals by F.ferrooxidans isolated from the Dalsung copper mine water. The results obtained were as follows : 1. The copper extraction rate from the Dalsung chalcopyrite has been a little accerelated by using flasks in place of percolators. 2. The percentage of copper extracted from the Dalsung chalcopyrite sample was 100% in 30 days in the presence of iron-oxidizing bacteria F.ferrooxidans while 9.27% in the absence of bacteria. 3. F.ferroxidans was capable of producing sufficient quantities of ferric sulfate and sulfuric acid from ferrous iron to bring about the dissolution of 100% of copper from the Dalsung chalcopyrite.

  • Recently, the study for practical construction application no recycled aggregate concrete is actively being proceeded, on the purpose of technical development for recycling on the construction waste concrete occurred at the time of destruction of building construction by the rapid increase of building wastes and exhaustion of natural aggregates. But, the durability of investigation with all sorts of fluidity and engineering property for application recycled aggregate concrete to practical construction must be done at the same time. Especially, because of the real condition for chemical attack of concrete construction by the acid rain, acidification of soil, deepening of air pollution and dirty water etc. being come to the fore a serious problem, the study on the chemical soundness of concrete durability must be accompanied. This study is composed as: I series: Analysis for chemical soundness of aggregates. II series: Analysis for chemical soundness of natural and recycled aggregate concrete against $Na_2$$SO_4$ solution in drying and wet curing condition ($at20~80^{\circ}C$).
