Schorl modified by $H_2SO_4$ has been successfully developed to enhance schorl-catalyzed Fenton-like reaction for removal of phenol in an aqueous solution. The phenol removal percentage can be increased from 4% to 100% by the system of modified schorl and $H_2O_2$. Batch experiments indicate that the percent increases in removal of phenol by increasing the dosage of catalyst, temperature and initial concentration of $H_2O_2$. The results of XRD, FT-IR and SEM suggest that no new phases are formed after removal of phenol by modified schorl. ICP-AES results reveal that more dissolution of iron results in higher catalytic oxidant activity in the system of modified schorl and $H_2O_2$. Besides minor adsorption, mineral-catalyzed Fenton-like reaction governs the process.
The demineralizing effect of chelating agents(Maleic acid solution, EDTA salts solutions; disodium-, trisodium- and tetrasodium-EDTA) on hydroxyapatite(HA) for the root canal dentin treatment was investigated. Dissolution of Ca from HA was increased with increasing immersion time in chelating solutions. Among the EDTA salts solutions, tetrasodium-EDTA was least effective in dissolving Ca out from HA, and trisodium-EDTA was the most effective. Trisodium-EDTA solutionmight be more effective in removing the smear layer compared to tetrasodium-EDTA solution.

We perform an experiment on lacquer formation with simple test device. The anti-lacquer is one of important issues to increase durability, and to improve performance in the engines because the lacquer formation cause sticking of fuel injection pump, scuffing of cylinder liners, and increase of lubricant oil consumption in the marine diesel engines. We suggest this simple test in order to save enormous experimental cost in marine diesel engines, and in order to have ease in performing the various tests. The influences of the Base Number (BN) of lubricant oils and the sulfur content of fuel oils in the formation of lacquer are investigated. In order to investigate physical and chemical properties of lacquer, we perform a variety of tests such as, visual inspection, EDS. In addition, we investigate adhesion of lacquer by pull-off test quantitatively, and perform dissolution test with dilute sulfuric acid.
Three newly synthesized alkanol esters of d-2-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl) propionic acid, NAPROXEN were examined for physicochemical properties and biopharmaceutical characteristics. These esters were very stable in solid state, but more than 90% of these esters were hydrolysed to the parent, naproxen in rabbit's liver hornogenates. They showed higher dissolution rate in the artificial gastric and intestinal juice, and significantly greater partition coefficient in n-octanol, when compared with naproxen. The absorption rate constants of these esters were increased, while the elimination rate constants were decreased, comparing with naproxen. The ulcerogenic doses on gastric and intestinal mucosa were increased remarkably, and the antiinflammatory dose against carrageenininduced edema on rat hind paw was decreased markedly in these esters, and thus the safety indexes of these esters were higher than that of naproxen.
Nitrocellulose [NC]-Poly(vinylamine) [PVAm] blended membranes with the change of amino group contents were prepared. The sorption and permeation of a mono-sulfonic acid dye, Orange II, in the membranes were investigated by the steady-state permeation method at $50^{\circ}C$ and pH 2.2. The results were discussed in the framework of dual sorption and diffusion theory. It was found that thesorption isotherms comprise a partition and two Langmuir type adsorption having similar binding constants. One of the latter sorption modes is due to unknown adsorption sites in NC and the other is due to the amino groups in PVAm. Apparent diffusion coefficients for collective P and L dye species, $D_P\; and D_L$, were obtained. Interpretation of $D_P$ values leads to two modes of partitions; one is such that dye is immobilized in NC and the other is the dissolution of the dye into the internal water phase.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the etching effects and bond strength of total etching and self-etching adhesive system on unground enamel using scanning electron microscopy and microtensile bond strength test. The buccal coronal unground enamel from human extracted molars were prepared using low-speed deamond saw. Scotchbond Multi-Purpose(group CM), Clearfil SE Bond(group SE), or Adper Prompt L-pop(group LP) were applied to the prepared teeth, and resin compasite(Z-250) was built up incrementally. Resin tag formation were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy, after removal of enamel surface by acid dissolution and dehydration.(중략)
Three humic acids, two from uranium bearing coal shale and one from the neighbouring limey shale region, are extracted from soils by dissolution in 0.1 M NaOH followed by acid precipitation. After purification cycles, they are characterized for their elemental composition, contents of inorganic impurities, molecular size distribution and proton exchange capacities. The results are compared with the data of reference and aquatic humic acids characterized under the project MIRAGE Ⅱ at TUM and also with other literature data. The proton exchange capacity determined by direct titration, is found to be 3.60 and 2.01 meq/g for coal shale and limey shale humic acids, respectively.
We present extraction process and reaction mechanism of boric acid from one of calcium borate ores, colemanite by reaction with sulfuric acid. Colemanite has been fully decomposed under pH 5 with sufficiency amount of sulfuric acid, more than the amount stoichiometrically required. Calcium sulfate was separated out, leaving boron in the liquid phase after sulfuric acid addition. The extraction process of boric acid was affected by dissolution temperature and time, amount of sulfuric acid and ammonium sulfate, pH and a degree of concentration before recrystallization. The $SiO_2$ of the impurities which colemanite contains was insoluble so that it was separated out with calcium sulfate from liquid phase. The species of $CaO,\;Al_2O_3,\;Fe_2O_3,\;MgO$ were remained in a liquid phase after reaction with sulfuric acid. These impurities were separated out by addition of ammonia to the liquid phase, funhermore, boric acid was produced by process of pH adjustments and acidification, concentration, and recrystallization.
This study was performed to get the basic information on nitric acid pulping of beech wood. In order to reduce the consumption of nitric acid, alkali pretreated woods were applied to a nitric acid pulping process. It consisted of nitric acid treatment to a high residual lignin content and the subsequent delignification with alkali, required far less chemical than the single stage method. At the first stage of nitric pulping, pulp yield descreased with increasing cooking time and 3 percent of nitric acid was more effective on the delignification of wood than 1 or 2 percent. Alkali pretreatment of wood improved significantly the rate of delignification, and 79 percent of the pretreated yield was good enough for excellent delignification. The dissolution of carbohydrate (mainly xylose) was increased with increasing cooking time, especially at the second stage. It would be considered that carbonyl groups introduced to polysaccharides in wood by nitric acid oxidation caused the degradation of carbohydrates.
Gabapentin is an antiepileptic drug that is structurally similar to ${\gamma}-aminobutyric$ acid (GABA), but does not interact with the GABA receptor. It does not bind significantly to plasma proteins, and is excreted to unchanged form in the urine. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the bioequivalence of two gabapentin capsules, $Neurontin^{TM}$ capsule 300 mg (Pfizer Pharm. Co., Ltd.) and Kuhnil $Gabapentin^{TM}$ capsule 300 mg (Kuhnil Pharm. Co., Ltd), according to the guidelines of the Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA). The release of gabapentin from the two gabapentin formulations in vitro was tested using KP VIII Apparatus II method with various dissolution media (pH 1.2, 4.0, 6.8 buffer solution and water). Twenty six healthy male subjects, $22.46{\pm}1.86$ years in age and $67.64{\pm}7.24$ kg in body weight, were divided into two groups and a randomized $2{\times}2$ cross-over study was employed. After a single capsule containing 300 mg as gabapentin was orally administered, blood samples were taken at predetermined time intervals and the concentrations of gabapentin in serum were determined using HPLC with fluorescence detector. The dissolution profiles of two formulations were similar at all dissolution media. In addition, the pharmacokinetic parameters such as $AUC_t$, $C_{max}$ and $T_{max}$ were calculated and ANOVA test was utilized for the statistical analysis of the parameters using logarithmically transformed $AUC_t$, $C_{max}$ and untransformed $T_{max}$. The results showed that the differences between two formulations based on the reference drug, $Neurontin^{TM}$ capsule 300 mg, were -2.03, -0.43 and 4.29% for $AUC_t$, $C_{max}$ and $T_{max}$, respectively. There were no sequence effects between two formulations in these parameters. The 90% confidence intervals using logarithmically transformed data were within the acceptance range of log 0.8 to log 1.25 $(e.g.,\;log\;0.89{\sim}log\;1.09\;and\;log\;0.91{\sim}log\;1.09$ for $AUC_t$ and $C_{max}$, respectively). Thus, the criteria of the KFDA bioequivalence guideline were satisfied, indicating Kuhnil $Gabapentin^{TM}$ capsule 300 mg was bioequivalent to $Neurontin^{TM}$ capsule 300 mg.
