  • With the successful commercialization of Bi-2223 powder-in-tube wire , various attempts in the R & D of the high-Tc superconducting (HTS) magnets for high magnetic field applications are being implemented actively. Operating temperature of HTS magnet has to be maintained at the designed level but the magnetic energy and mechanical disturbance can cause unstable operational temperature of HTS magnet. Especially the generated heat energy of inner HTS winding Is apt to be accumulated . so the normal region appears in HTS winding. This paper deals with the quenching characteristics of three kinds of selected Bi-2223 wires : the High Current Density Wire (HC-A) and the High Strength Wire (HS-A) made by AMSC and HTS wire(HW-I) made by Innost The Innost wire has the highest minimum quench energy (MQE). The High Current Density Wire has the highest normal zone Propagation velocity (NZPV).

  • An the livestock production in Japan is industrialized, a tremendous amount of animal wastes is being produced annually, resulting in serious environmental pollution problems. Animal wastes could be pollutants, but they are also important sources of fertilizer nutrients and organic matter. Composting is an effective way of promoting the increased utilization of animal wastes. The characterization of maturing process during composting is important in order to improve the composting technology and to develop and efficient method to estimate the degree of maturity. The rise and fall in temperature, and changes in the constituents of the compost, reflect the maturing process and may serve as indicators for maturation. In addition, the detection of nitrate by diphenylamine, the determination of cation-exchange capacity (CEC), and the germination test, are also recommended as the methods of estimating the degree of maturity. The heavy applications of animal manure and compost may cause an adverse effect on soils and crops. When excess manure is applied, the nitrogen will be accumulated in soil, resulting in accumulation of nitrate in crops and pollution of the groundwater. Guidelines for application rates are recommended, to maintain soil productivity and quality of crops, and to prevent the environmental pollution.

Methylobacterium sp. GL-10의 유가식 배양에 의한 Methanol로 부터 Poly-$\beta$-hydroxybutyrate의 생산 (Production of Poly-$\beta$-hydroxybutyrate from Methanol by Fed-batch Cultivation of methylobacterium sp. GL-10)

  • The production of poly-$\beta$-hydroxybutyrate(PHB) from methanol by batch and fed-batch cultivations of Methylobacterium sp. GL-10 was studied. PHB accumulation was stimulated by the nutrients deficiency including, NH4+, SO42-, and K+. The nitrogen deficiency was the most critical factor for PHB accumulation. In batch cultivation, the maximum cell concentration and PHB content were 1.86g/l and 0.62g/l, respectively, with 1.0%(v/v) of methanol and 0.5g/1 of ammonium sulfate. The mass doubling time of Methylobacterum sp. GL-10 was in the range of 4-5 hrs. The cell growth and PHB accumulation were severely inhibited at the methanol concentration over than 2% (v/v). To overcome methanol Inhibition, constant feeding and intermittent feedillg fed-batch cultivations were adopted, using C/N molar ratio as a control factor. In constant feeding fed-batch process, cell concentration was increased up to 2.67g/1, and PHB yield was enhanced from 0.33 of batch culture to 0.53. The relatively low cell concentration was caused by methanol accumulated in culture broth at late growth phase. To prevent methanol accumulation and to maximize PHB production, DO-state intermittent fed-batch cultivation was attempted. The cell and PHB concentration was reached up to 4.55g/1 and 1.80g/1, respectively. It was possible to maintain methanol concentration low and also to feed nutrient of desired C/N molar ratio.

  • Bacteriocin 생산균주인 Lactococcus sp. 111-2의 최적 배양조건과 배양 특성을 검토하였다. 탄소원은 glucose 20g/l, 질소원은 casein acid hydrolyzate 15g/l, 무기염류는 sodium acetate 3g/l와 ammonium citrate 2g/l가 bacteriocin 생성에 많은 영향을 주는 것으로 타났으며, 배지 pH는 6.2, 발효온도는 $35^{\circ}C$일 때 높은 생성수율을 보였다. 선발균주는 증식 및 항균물질의 생성에 riboflavin과 pantotheinc acid의 비타민을 요구하였다. 회분식 발효시 항균성물질의 생산패턴은 배양 12시간에 3,894IU/ml로 최대를 나타냈으며 균체생성은 배양 8.5시간에 정상기에 도달하였다.

낙동강 소유역 경지에서의 비점오염원 물질 발생 및 배출 특성 (Generation and Discharge Characteristics of Non-point Pollutants from Farmlands of Small Watershed for Nak-dong River)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the generation and discharge characteristics of non-point pollutants from farmlands in Nak-dong river basin. Annual unit generation load of nitrogen and phosphorus by fertilization in the test paddy field was almost similar to those calculated by the fertilization standards of district agricultural technology center, but it was extremely higher in case of the test dry field. By comparing annual total generation load of nutrients from fertilization to the data of fertilizer marketing, the accurate forecasting of generation load of pollutants was achieved by marketing data. The annual total discharge ratio of nutrients through infiltration and overflow from the farmland of the test paddy field were 9.5% and 1.1%, respectively, and those in the test dry field were 22.0% and 0.1%, respectively. The monthly discharge load of nutrients were shown the highest proportioned to the discharge load from lands, but it showed higher in phosphorus, which was caused by the intermittent discharge of phosphorus accumulated in drainage.

Thalassobius aestuarii sp. nov., Isolated from Tidal Flat Sediment

  • A strictly aerobic, non-motile, ovoid-shaped Alphaproteobacteria, designated strain $JC2049^T$ was isolated from a tidal flat sediment sample. The results of 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that this isolate belonged to the genus Thalassobius, with a sequence similarity of 96.9-97.3% to other valid Thalassobius spp. The cells required 1-7% NaCl for growth (optimum 2%) and accumulated $poly-\beta-hydroxybutyrate$. Nitrite was reduced to nitrogen, but nitrate was not reduced to nitrite. No genetic potential for aerobic anoxygenic photosynthesis was detected. The primary isoprenoid quinone (Ubiquinone-10), predominant cellular fatty acids $(C_{18:1}{\omega}7c,\;11\;methyl\;C_{18:1}\omega7c\;and\;C_{16:0})$ and DNA G+C content (61 mol %) were all consistent with the assignment of this isolate to the genus Thalassobius. Several phenotypic characteristics clearly distinguished our isolate from other Thalassobius species. The degree of genomic relatedness between strain $JC2049^T$ and other Thalassobius species was in a range of 20-43 %. The polyphasic data presented in this study indicates that our isolate should be classified as a novel species within the genus Thalassobius. The name Thalassobius aestuarii sp. novo is therefore proposed for this isolate; the type strain is $JC2049^T(=IMSNU\;14011^T=KCTC\;12049^T=DSM\;15283^T)$.

Electrical Properties and Self-poling Mechanism of CNT/PVDF Piezoelectric Composite Films Prepared by Spray Coating Method

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNT) / polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) piezoelectric composite films for nanogenerator devices were fabricated by spray coating method. When the CNT/PVDF mixture solution passes through the spray nozzle with small diameter by the compressed nitrogen gas, electric charges are generated in the liquid by a triboelectric effect. Then randomly distributed ${\beta}$ phase PVDF film could be re-oriented by the electric field resulting from the accumulated electrical charges, and might be resulted in extremely one-directionally aligned ${\beta}$ phase PVDF film without additional electric field for poling. X-ray diffraction patterns were used to investigate crystal structure of the CNT/PVDF composite films. It was confirmed that they revealed extremely large portion of the ${\beta}$ phase PVDF crystalline in the film. Therefore we could obtain the poled CNT/PVDF piezoelectric composite films by the spray coating method without additional poling process. Charge accumulation and resulting electric field generation mechanism by spray coating method were shown in Fig. 1. The capacitance of the CNT/PVDF films increased by adding CNTs into the PVDF matrix, and finally saturated. However, the I-V curves didn't show any saturation effect in the CNT concentration range of 0~4 wt%. Therefore we can control the performance of the devices fabricated from the CNT/PVDF composite film by adjusting the current level resulted from the CNT concentration with the uniform capacitance value.

역삼투막을 이용한 음식폐기물 액비의 농축 (Accumulation of Food Wastes Liquid Fertilizer using Reverse Osmosis Membrane System)

  • A lab-scale Reverse Osmosis(RO) membrane reactor was installed to investigate the membrane permeability, characteristics of membrane fouling at each conditions, and performance of elimination at different trans-membrane pressure(TMP) in the liquid fertilizer accumulated system. Experimental setup was divided to three different TMP conditions. As a result of experiment, permeability of RO membrane was proportional to the increase of TMP and temperature. After experiment was completed, two types chemical cleaning(remove the organic foulant and inorganic foulant) was done, and recover rate of permeability was each 99.8, 99.7 and 99.7%, respectively. From this experimental data, membrane fouling could be determined that the most of it was recoverable in this system, and major reason of fouling was concentration polarization. Elimination rate of solute substance in the liquid fertilizer indicated very stable(above 99%), except ammonia nitrogen, and the most stable elimination rate was investigated at the highest TMP condition (Run 3).

Brevibacterium ammoniagenes에 의한 글루탐산 제조에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Production of L-Glutamic Acid by Brevibacterium ammoniagenes)

  • A bacterium strain (K-173-10) which was isolated from waste soil of Korea brewing factory, could be grown on acetate as the sole carbon source and accumulated a considerable amount of L-glutamic acid in the medium. This strain was identified as the new species Brevibacterium ammoniagenes. This study was concerned not only with the culture condition for the production of L-glutamic acid and the cell growth, but also with the effects on concentration of various kind of organic substances, growth factors and penicillin. The results obtained were summarized as follow; 1. It was found that the concentrations of acetate and ammonium ions affected the growth of the bacterium as well as its L-glutamate accumulation. The optimum conditions of the composition of grown media for the growth of the bacterium and its glutamic acid production was found to be 40 g/l of total acetate, $100\;{\mu}g/l$ thiamine, $0.5\;{\mu}g/l$ biotin and $1{\sim}2g/l$ corn steep liquor as the growth factors. 2. Organic acid such as succinic acid, malic acid and ${\alpha}-ketoglutaric$ acid inhibited the cell growth as well as its L-glutamic acid production. 3. The penicillin (20 units/ml) stimulated the production of glutamic acid at appropriate incubation period. 4. It was found that this strain could grow in the presence of urea and ammonium acetate but not in other nitrogen sources.

알칼리 감량 폴리에스테르 섬유의 기공도와 염색성 (The Porosity and the Dyeability of Polyester Fiber Treated with Sodium Hydroxide Aqueous Solution)

  • The porosity of polyester fibers treated with sodium hydroxide aqueous solution was investigated using a nitrogen porosimeter, and the dyeability of the treated fibers was discussed in terms of the porosity. In pore distribution, the polyester fibers treated with sodium hydroxide aqueous solution were characterized by higher amount of pores below $10\AA$ than those of the untreated fibers, and by shift of the pore size having maximum accumulated volume from $10\AA$ for the untreated fibers to $5~6\AA$. As the weight loss of the polyester fibers treated with sodium hydroxide aqueous solution increased, BET surface area and total pore volume increased linearly, but average pore size, showing some different aspect, increased steeply at earlier stage and then approached the maximum value. The dye uptakes of the polyester fibers treated with sodium hydroxide aqueous solution increased with the BET surface area, the total pore volume and the average pore size. The alkali treatment increased the surface area of polyester fibers, so that the chance of contact between the fiber and dye molecules increased. In addition, the pores created on the surface of polyester fibers by alkali treatment might act as pathways for dye molecules into the polyester fibers.
