  • This study examined acculturation stress resulting from socio-demographic characteristics and psychological and social status of married immigrant women residing in the Jeonbuk region. Data were gathered from married immigrant women who were participating in non-profit agencies offering multi-cultural services and those who worked for business offices and stores in the Jeonbuk area. A structured self-administered questionnaire was used. A total of 280 questionnaires were distributed, and 210 were returned. Twenty three questionnaires were excluded from the study because of invalid responses, providing a final data pool of 187 responses. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses revealed that Korean language ability and levels of depression were significantly associated with acculturation stress among married immigrant women. Based on the findings of this study, interventions for reducing acculturation stress among married immigrant women and implications for future studies are discussed.

  • Purpose: This study examined the relationship between acculturation stress and health promotion behaviors in the Korean Chinese elderly immigrants living in Korea, focusing on the buffering effects of social support. Methods: We included 132 completed questionnaires in the analysis. The buffering effect was examined using a hierarchical regression analysis by adding interaction terms. Results: Health promotion scores were significantly higher in the group with a higher education level, lower depressive symptom scores, and higher levels of social support. However, no statistically significant differences were found in the health promotion behaviors by gender, age, spouse, job, financial stability, subjective health status, chronic disease, regular health checkups, or acculturation stress. The hierarchical regression analysis demonstrated that social support had a buffering effect on the relationship between acculturation stress and health promotion behaviors in the Korean Chinese elderly immigrants. Specifically, the relationship between the acculturation stress stemming from the difficulties in the workplace and health promotion behaviors was attenuated by social support. Conclusion: These findings indicate that social support significantly moderates the relationship between acculturation stress and health promotion behaviors in the Korean Chinese elderly immigrants living in Korea. A variety of strategies to enhance social support should be incorporated in the health promotion programs to decrease the negative effects of acculturation stress in the Korean Chinese elderly living in Korea.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the moderating effects of teacher support on the effects of acculturation stress on school adjustment of multicultural adolescents. To this end, we used the 6th Year (2016) adolescents survey data of 1,329 multicultural adolescents from the Multicultural Adolescents Panel Survey(MAPS), which was constructed by the National Youth Policy Institute(NYPI). Using SPSS 22.0, frequency analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, and moderated multiple regression analysis were used as dependent variables for school adjustment of multicultural adolescents, as independent variables for school adjustment, and as moderating variables for teacher support. As a result, first, multicultural adolescents experienced acculturation stress, and school adjustment decreased as the acculturation stress increased. Second, teacher support was found to have a statistically significant moderating effect on the effects of acculturation stress on school adjustment of multicultural adolescents. Based on the results of this research, I discussed and suggested the supportive measures, the role of teachers, and follow-up research to reduce the acculturation stress of multicultural adolescents and increase the level of school adjustment.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors influencing depression among mothers-in-law in multicultural families. Methods: For this study, 159 participants from multicultural families were recruited through administrative units of the B. & U. Metropolitan City and G. Province. Data related to acculturation stress, resilience, and depression were collected from April to August 2014 and analyzed through t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and regression analysis with the SPSS/WIN 22.0 for Windows program. Results: The participants had a moderate level of acculturation stress ($2.43{\pm}0.75$: range 1~5) and resilience ($4.74{\pm}1.14$: range 1~7). About 58% of the participants had depression. The results of stepwise multiple regression analysis indicated that mothers-in-law's depression was affected by resilience (${\beta}=-1.17$, p<.001), acculturation stress (${\beta}=0.85$, p=.026), perceived economic level (${\beta}=-0.83$, p=.016), difficulty in physical activity (${\beta}=-0.62$, p=.027), relationship satisfaction (${\beta}=-0.51$, p=.035), and education level (${\beta}=-0.48$, p=.033). The explanatory power of these factors was 35%. Conclusion: The findings indicated the need to lower the level of depression by enhancing resilience and reducing acculturation stress among mothers-in-law in multicultural families. Future research to reduce depression among mothers-in-law in multicultural families should consider how to enhance resilience and reduce acculturation stress.

A survey was conducted from April 1 to 12, 2022 on 239 Chinese students from universities across the country using Wenjuanxing questionnaires. Descriptive statistics analysis and Baron and Kenny hierarchical regression analysis were performed on the collected data using SPSS 26.0, and bootstrapping was performed to verify the mediating effect. As a result of the study, SNS use time had a significant effect on the self-efficacy and social support. The acculturation stress was significantly influenced by SNS use time, self-efficacy, and social support. SNS use time had a significant effect on acculturation stress, and self-efficacy and social support had a partial mediating effect in the relationship between SNS use time and acculturation stress. Therefore, based on the above research, SNS can be used to develop the projects for International students to enhance their cultural adaptative ability and thus alleviate the acculturation stress. This study can serve as the foundational and supplementary materials for the follow-up study of SNS and acculturation stress.
