  • This paper addresses issues encountered in measuring the general, 6-degree-of-freedom motion of a human head, A complete mathematical description for measuring the head motion using the six-accelerometer configured bite-bar is suggested, The description shows that the six-axis vibration cannot be completely obtained without the roll, pitch and yaw angular velocity components, A new method of estimating the three orthogonal (roll, pitch and yaw) angular velocities from the six acceleration measurements is introduced. The estimated angular velocities are shown to enable further quantitative error analysis in measuring the translational and angular accelerations at the head. To make this point clear, experimental results are also illustrated in this paper. They show that when the effects of angular velocities are neglected in the head vibration measurement the maximum percentage errors were observed to be more than $3 \%$ for the angular acceleration of the head and to be close to $5 \%$ for its translational acceleration, respectively. It means that the inclusion of all the angular velocity dependent acceleration components gives more accurate measurement of the head vibration.

  • In this study, an acceleration sensor that has optical fibers to measure the inclination and acceleration of a structure through contradictory changes in two-component FBG sensors was examined. The proposed method was to ensure precise measurement through the unification of the deformation rate sensor and the angular displacement sensor. A high sensitivity three-axis accelerometer was designed and prepared using this method. To verify the accuracy of the accelerometer, the change in wavelength according to temperature and tension was tested. Then, the change in wavelength of the prepared accelerometer according to the sensor angle, and that of the sensor according to the change in ambient temperature were measured. According to the test results on the FBG-based vibration sensor that was developed using a high-speed vibrator, the range in measurement was 0.7 g or more, wavelength sensitivity, 2150 pm/g or more, and the change in wavelength change, $9.5pm/^{\circ}C$.

  • This paper is focused on a simplified measurement of rail irregularity by some axle-box accelerometers for high-speed rail condition monitoring with in-service high-speed trains. Generally, the rail condition monitoring has been done by a special railway inspection vehicle with a 10m versine method. But, the monitoring method needs some expensive measurement system, and have been performed only at night due to its speed limit. In this research, a simplified measurement of rail irregularity using axle-box accelerometers is proposed to monitor the rail condition with in-service high-speed trains. The acceleration is measured by using two accelerometers on a axle-box, and stored in an on-board data acquisition system. The displacement is estimated from the acceleration data by a combination of Kalman filter and the frequency selective filter. The estimated results are compared with the measurement from a laser rail inspection system which is near the axle-box. From the comparison, the proposed method shows promise as a tool for the simplified measurement of rail irregularity at high-speed.

  • This paper presents a system that measures the acceleration of the shock caused by the explosion of the precursor warhead for the tandem projectile. The proposed system, which is implemented based on the MIL-STD-810G, Method 517.1, consists of a miniaturized shock measurement device, a cable, accelerometers, and a trigger circuit. The shock measurement device has a size of ¢102 × 171 mm and cable has a length of 3 m. The operational confirmation test is conducted by implementing the measurement system. The Analysis of shock data(accelerometer output data) is carried out using Shock Response Spectrum(SRS), pseudo velocity and plot of acceleration time transient. Through measurement analysis, one can predict the damage of electronics in projectile when precursor warhead is exploded.

  • In view of the importance of the wind-structure interaction for tall and slender structures, an aeroelastic model test of the 610m-high TV tower with a complex and unique structural configuration and appearance carried out successfully. The assembled aeroelastic model of the TV tower with complex shape and structure was designed and made to ensure the similarities of the major natural frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes. The simulation of the atmospheric boundary layer with higher turbulent intensity is presented. Since the displacement and acceleration responses at several measurement sections were directly measured in the wind tunnel test, a multi-mode approach was presented to indirectly estimate the displacement and acceleration responses at arbitrary structural floors based on the measured ones. It can be seen that it is remarkable for the displacement and acceleration responses of the TV tower in the two horizontal directions under wind loads and is small for the dynamic response of the torsional displacement and acceleration.

  • The acceleration information is significant for the structural health monitoring, which is the basic measurement to identify structural dynamic characteristics and structural vibration. The efficiency of the accelerometer is subsequently important for the structural health monitoring. In this paper, the distance measure matrix and the support level matrix are constructed firstly and the synthesized support level and the fusion method are given subsequently. Furthermore, the synthesized support level can be served as the determination for diagnosis on accelerometers, while the consensus data fusion method can be used to recover the acceleration information in frequency domain. The acceleration acquisition measurements from the accelerometers located on the real structure National Aquatics Center are used to be the basic simulation data here. By calculating two groups of accelerometers, the validation and stability of diagnosis and recovering on acceleration based on the data fusion are proofed in the paper.

  • The classical Kalman filter (KF) can provide effective state estimation for structural identification and vibration control, but it is applicable only when external inputs are measured. So far, some studies of Kalman filter with unknown inputs (KF-UI) have been proposed. However, previous KF-UI approaches based solely on acceleration measurements are inherently unstable which leads to poor tracking and fictitious drifts in the identified structural displacements and unknown inputs in the presence of measurement noises. Moreover, it is necessary to have the measurements of acceleration responses at the locations where unknown inputs applied, i.e., with collocated acceleration measurements in these approaches. In this paper, it aims to extend the classical KF approach to circumvent the above limitations for general real time estimation of structural state and unknown inputs without using collocated acceleration measurements. Based on the scheme of the classical KF, an improved Kalman filter with unknown excitations (KF-UI) and without collocated acceleration measurements is derived. Then, data fusion of acceleration and displacement or strain measurements is used to prevent the drifts in the identified structural state and unknown inputs in real time. Such algorithm is not available in the literature. Some numerical examples are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

  • Sleep apnea is a disease that causes various complications, and the polysomnography is expensive and difficult to measure. The purpose of this study is to develop an unrestricted wearable monitoring system so that patients can be examined in a familiar environment. We used a method to detect sleep apnea events and to determine sleep satisfaction by non-constrained method using SpO2 measurement sensor and 3-axis acceleration sensor. Heart rate and SpO2 were measured at the finger using max30100. After acquiring the SpO2 data of the user in real time, the apnea measurement algorithm was used to transmit the number of apnea events of the user to the mobile phone using Bluetooth (HC-06) on the wrist. Using the three-axis acceleration sensor (mpu6050) attached to the upper body, the number of times of tossing and turning during sleep was measured. Based on this data, this algorithm evaluates the patient's tossing and turning during sleep and transmits the data to the mobile phone via Bluetooth. The power source used 9 volts battery to operate Arduino UNO and sensors for portability and stability, and the data received from each sensor can be used to check the various degree between sleep apnea and sleep tossing and turning on the mobile phone. Through thisstudy, we have developed a wearable sleep apnea measurement system that can be easily used at home for the problem of low sleep efficiency of sleep apnea patients.

  • The acceleration of the performance of machine tools influences the development of the semi-conductor and optical technology as the development of NC and measurement technology. We can mention that a traction role of the acceleration for the development like that depends on the development of the measurement technics Stylus instrument method, STM, SEM, Laser interferometer method which are used for measuring the quasi-static error of machine tools. Because the measurement has been done to unload condition without considering of mechanical stiffness in the case of machining center as we measure the quasi-static error of machine tools on general studies, people who works on the spot has many problems on the data value. Therefor we will help working more accurately on the spot by measuring, analyzing, displaying the deflection of the table and support shaft when we load on the table and the support shaft of machining center using laser interferometer. Also we try to settle new conception of the measurement method and more accurate grasp of the deflection tendency by verifing the tendency of the error measured through the comparison of the simulated error using ANSYS, a common finite element analysis program, which is able to measure heat deformation, material deformation, and error resulted form this study.

  • A new technique for Attitude & Heading Reference System (AHRS) by using sequential measurement noise covariance (SMNC) is addressed in a vibration environments in this paper. In particular, a low-cost inertial measurement unit in general diverges in the acceleration phase or vibrating environments due to inherent properties of gravity and acceleration. In this paper, by considering current and prior measurements to estimate actual attitudes and headings in a local frame, the proposed technique overcomes these problems efficiently. Finally, the performance of the suggested approach is verified by numerical simulations.
