Fermented soybean sauce was fractionated by gel filteration chromatography and the physico-chemical properties of each fraction were investigated for the study on the separation and characteristics of antioxidative substances in the soybean sauce. The brown coloured melanoidin fractions(MF-I) collected by Sephadex G-10 column were found to contain nitrogeneous compounds and to have strong antioxidative activity and reducing power. The freeze dried MF-I was further fractionated with Sephadex G-50 and G-100 successively and then MF-II and MF-III fractions were observed to be the most effective antioxidant and reducing power among the fractions. The UV-VIS and IR absorption spectra of the each fraction were also determined and discussed.
Two types of water soluble lysine salts of ibuprofen were prepared and evaluated. Physicochemical properties for ibuprofen-l-lysinate (IBL-l), ibuprofen-dl-lysinate (IBL-dl) and ibuprofen (IB) were studied on melting point, specific ratation, UV spectra and $^1H$-NMR spectra. There were not differences between IBL-dl and IBL-l in UV spectra and $^1H$-NMR spectra. The pharmacokinetic parameters of IB were compared to those of its lysine salts (IBL-l and IBL-dl) after i.v. or oral administration at the dose of 50 mg/kg (calculated as IB). Total body clearance ($CL_t$) and area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC) were not different between IB group and IBL groups after i.v. administration. On the other hand, IBL-l and IBL-dl produced peak plasma concentrations ($C_{max}$) significantly ealier and higher than IB. Time to reach peak concentration ($T_{max}$) after IBL administration was lower than that after IB administration. There was no difference in AUC across all different groups (IB, IBL-l and IBL-dl) after oral administration. However, absorption rate constant ($k_a$) of IBL-l and IBL-dl were significantly increased than that of IB. These results indicated that the administration of IBL-l and IBL-dl may be advantageous if rapid and reliable onset of pain relief is required.
Trivalent cerium-ion-doped $Y_3(Al,\;Ga)_5O_{12}$ nanoparticle phosphor nanoparticles were synthesized using the reverse micelle process. The Ce doped $Y_3(Al,\;Ga)_5O_{12}$ particles were obtained from nitrate solutions dispersed in the nanosized aqueous domains of a micro emulsion consisting of cyclohexane as the oil phase and poly(oxyethylene) nonylphenyl ether (Igepal CO-520) as the non-ionic surfactant. The crystallinity, morphology, and thermal properties of the synthesized $Y_3(Al,\;Ga)_5O_{12}:Ce^{3+}$ powders were characterized by thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis (TGA-DTA), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy. The crystallinity, morphology, and chemical states of the ions were characterized; the photo-physical properties were studied by taking absorption, excitation, and emission spectra for various concentrations of cerium. The photo physical properties of the synthesized $Y_3(Al,\;Ga)_5O_{12}:Ce^{3+}$ powders were studied by taking the excitation and emission spectra for various concentrations of cerium. The average particle size of the synthesized YAG powders was below $1{\mu}m$. Excitation spectra of the $Y_3Al_5O_{12}$ and $Y_3Al_{3.97}Ga_{1.03}O_{12}$ samples were 485 nm and 475 nm, respectively. The emission spectra of the $Y_3Al_5O_{12}$ and $Y_3Al_{3.97}Ga_{1.03}O_{12}$ were around 560 nm and 545 nm, respectively. $Y_3(Al,\;Ga)_5O_{12}:Ce^{3+}$ is a red-emitting phosphor; it has a high efficiency for operation under near UV excitation, and may be a promising candidate for photonic applications.
We developed a CASE-II water model that will enable the simulation of remote sensing reflectance($R_{rs}$) at the coastal waters for the retrieval of suspended sediments (SS) concentrations from satellite imagery. The model has six components which are: water, chlorophyll, dissolved organic matter (DOM), non-chlorophyllous particles (NC), heterotrophic microorganisms and an unknown component, possibly represented by bubbles or other particulates unrelated to the five first components. We measured $R_{rs}$, concentration of SS and chlorophyll, and absorption of DOM during our field campaigns in Korea. In addition, we generated $R_{rs}$ from different concentrations of SS and chlorophyll, and various absorptions of DOM by random number functions to create a large database to test the model. We assimilated both the computer generated parameters as well as the in-situ measurements in order to reconstruct the reflectance spectra. We validated the model by comparing model-reconstructed spectra with observed spectra. The estimated $R_{rs}$ spectra were used to (1) evaluate the performance of four wavelengths and wavelengths ratios for accurate retrieval of SS. 2) identify the optimum band for SS retrieval, and 3) assess the influence of the SS on the chlorophyll algorithm. The results indicate that single bands at longer wavelengths in visible better results than commonly used channel ratios. The wavelength of 625nm is suggested as a new and optimal wavelength for SS retrieval. Because this wavelength is not available from SeaWiFS, 555nm is offered as an alternative. The presence of SS in coastal areas can lead to overestimation chlorophyll concentrations greater than 20-500%.

In this study, $Zn_{0.86}Mn_{0.14}$Te epilayer of 0.7 $\mu\textrm{m}$-thickness was grown on GaAs(100) substrate by using hot wallepitaxy. GaAs(100) substrate was removed from $Zn_{0.86}Mn_{0.14}$Teepilayer by the selective etching solution. The crystal structure and the lattice constant of only Z $n_{0.86}$ M $n_{0.14}$Te epilayer were investigated to be zincblende and 6.140 $\AA$ from X-ray diffraction pattern, respectively. Mn composition x of $Zn_{1-x}Mn_x$Te epilayer was found to be 0.14 using this lattice constant and Vegard's law. The crystal quality of the epilayer was confirmed to be very good due to 256 arcsec-full-width at half-maximum of the double crystal rocking curve. The absorption spectra from the transmission ones were obtained to measure the band gap energy of $Zn_{0.86}Mn_{0.14}$Te epilayer from 300 K to 10 K. With the decreasing temperature,. strong absorption regions in the absorption spectra were shifted to higher energy side and the absorption peak meaning the free exciton formation appeared near the absorption edge. The band gap energy values of $Zn_{0.86}Mn_{0.14}$Te epilayer at 0 K and 300 K were found to be almost 2.4947 eV and 2.330 eV from the temperature dependence of the free exciton peak position energy of $Zn_{0.86}Mn_{0.14}$Te epilayer, respectively. The free exciton peak position energy of $Zn_{0.86}Mn_{0.14}$Te epilayer without GaAs substrate was larger 15.4 meV than photoluminescence peak position energy at 10 K. This energy difference between two peaks was analysed to be Stokes shift.
Excitation spectra of the 1.6 rm emission originating from $Ho^{3+}$:$^{5}$ I$_{5}$ \longrightarrow$^{5}$ I$_{7}$ transition in fluoride, sulfide, and selenide glasses were measured at wavelengths around 900nm where the fluorescing $^{5}$ I$_{5}$ level is located. In specific energy range where the frequency upconversion populating $^{5}$ F$_{1}$ state happens, the excitation efficiency of the 1.6 fm emission was deteriorated in fluoride and sulfide hosts. In selenide however spectral line shapes of the excitation spectrum and the '$^{5}$ I$_{8}$ \longrightarrow$^{5}$ I$_{5}$ absorption spectrum looked seemingly identical to each other. Differences in optical nonlinearity as well as electronic band gap energy of the host glasses used are responsible for the experimental observations. On the other hand, codoping of rare earths such as Tb$^{3+}$, Dy$^{3+}$, Eu$^{3+}$, and Nd$^{3+}$ was effective in decreasint the terminating $^{5}$ I$_{7}$ level lifetime. However, at the same time, some of the codopants increased unnecessary absorption at the 1.6 $\mu$m wavelengths via their ground state absorption. Though the lifetime quenching effect of Eu$^{3+}$ was moderate, it exhibited no additional extrinsic absorption at the 1.6 $\mu$m band.EX>m band.
We deposited thin films of organic light-emitting-material $Alq_3$(alumina quinoline) on silicon and slide-glass substrates using thermal evaporation method, and measured spectra of ellipsometry angles ${\Delta}$ and ${\Psi}$ in the photon-energy range of 1.5~5.0 eV using a variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometer. The optical constants, refractive index and extinction coefficient, of $Alq_3$ were determined via the dispersion parameters extracted from the curve-fitting process based on Jellison-Modine dispersion function. The reliability of determined optical constants were verified through the comparison of measured and simulated transmittance curves and the good agreement between simulated absorption-coefficient curves and absorbance spectra measured using a spectrophotometer.
AC and ZnS modified $TiO_2$ composites (AC/ZnS/$TiO_2$) were prepared using a sol-gel method. The composite obtained was characterized by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area measurements, X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis, and according to the UV-vis absorption spectra (UV-vis). XRD patterns of the composites showed that the AC/ZnS/$TiO_2$ composites contain a typical single and clear anatase phase. The surface properties as observed by SEM present the characterization of the texture of the AC/ZnS/$TiO_2$ composites, showing a homogenous composition in the particles showing the micro-surface structures and morphology of the composites. The EDX spectra of the elemental identification showed the presence of C and Ti with Zn and S peaks for the AC/ZnS/$TiO_2$ composite. UV-vis patterns of the composites showed that these composites had greater photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation. A rhodamine B (Rh.B) solution under visible light irradiation was used to determine the photocatalytic activity. The degradation of Rh.B was determined using UV/Vis spectrophotometry. An increase in the photocatalytic activity was observed. From the photocatalytic results, the excellent activity of the Y-fullerene/$TiO_2$ composites for the degradation of methylene blue under visible irradiation could be attributed to an increase in the photo-absorption effect caused by the ZnS and to the cooperative effect of the AC.
New polynuclear poly(hexaaza macrocyclic) copper(II) complexes $[1](ClO_4)_{2n}{\cdot}(H_2O)_{2n}$, $[2](ClO_4)_{2n}{\cdot}(H_2O)_{2n}$, and $[3](ClO_4)_{2n}{\cdot}(H_2O)_{2n}$ have been prepared by the one-pot reaction of formaldehyde with ethylenediamine and 1,2-bis(2-aminoethoxy)ethane, 1,3-diaminopropane, or 1,6-diaminohexane in the presence of the metal ion. The polymer complexes contain fully saturated 14-membered hexaaza macrocyclic units (1,3,6,8,10,13-hexaazacyclotetradecane) that are linked by $N-(CH_2)_2-O-(CH_2)_2-O-(CH_2)_2-N$, $N-(CH_2)_3-N$, or $N-(CH_2)_6-N$ chains. The mononuclear complex $[Cu(H_2L^5)](ClO_4)_4$ ($H_2L^5$ = a protonated form of $L^5$) bearing two $N-(CH_2)_2-O-(CH_2)_2-O-(CH_2)_2-NH_2$ pendant arms has also been prepared by the metal-directed reaction of ethylenediamine, 1,2-bis(2-aminoethoxy)ethane, and formaldehyde. The polymer complexes were characterized employing elemental analyses, FT-IR and electronic absorption spectra, molar conductance, X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and scanning electron micrograph (SEM). Electronic absorption spectra of the complexes show that each macrocyclic unit of them has square-planar coordination geometry with a 5-6-5-6 chelate ring sequence. The polymer complexes as well as $[Cu(H_2L^5)]^{4+}$ are quite stable even in concentrated $HClO_4$ solutions. Synthesis and characterization of the polynuclear and mononuclear copper(II) complexes are reported.
Gold nanoparticles (GNPs) were conjugated with gallic acid (GA) at various concentrations between 30 and $150{\mu}M$ and characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and UV-Vis spectroscopy (UV-VIS). The anticancer activities of the gallic acid-stabilized gold nanoparticles against well-differentiated (M213) and moderately differentiated (M214) adenocarcinomas were then determined using a neutral red assay. The GA mechanism of action was evaluated using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) microspectroscopy. Distinctive features of the FTIR spectra between the control and GA-treated cells were confirmed by principal component analysis (PCA). The surface plasmon resonance spectra of the GNPs had a maximum absorption at 520 nm, whereas GNPs-GA shifted the maximum absorption values. In an in vitro study, the complexed GNPs-GA had an increased ability to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells that was statistically significant (P<0.0001) in both M213 and M214 cells compared to GA alone, indicating that the anticancer activity of GA can be improved by conjugation with GNPs. Moreover, PCA revealed that exposure of the tested cells to GA resulted in significant changes in their cell membrane lipids and fatty acids, which may enhance the efficacy of this anticancer activity regarding apoptosis pathways.
