The absorption coefficient of contrast media was measured region of diagnostic X-ray. Relative values of absorption coefficient was found the largest peak in the range of $60{\sim}70kVp$ for sodium sulfate and 60kVp for iodine. Increasing the thickness of contrast media and patient, the values of absorption coefficient was rising.
The effect of moisture content on acoustic absorption coefficient and impedance of the woods of Pinus densiflora, Chamaecyparis pisifela, Cryptomeria japonica, Abies koreana, Melia azedarch var. japonica, Shorea bracteolata and Shorea acuminata was investigated by standing wave method. The results obtained are summarized as follows: The acoustic absorption coefficient increased with increasing moisture content, but acoustic impedance decreased with increasing moisture content.
Temperature was considered to estimate the minimum detectable absorption coefficient of aerosol particles from photothermal spectroscopy. Light energy absorbed by subsequent emission from the aerosol results in the heating of the aerosol sample and consequently causes a temperature change as well as changes in thermodynamic parameters of the sample. This thermal effect is the basis of photothermal spectroscopy. Photothermal spectroscopy has several types of techniques depending on how the photothermal effects are detected. Photothermal interferometry traces the photothermal effect, refractive index, using an interferometer. Photoacoustic spectroscopy detects the photothermal effect, sound wave, using a microphone. In this study, it is suggested that the detection limit for photothermal spectroscopy can be influenced by the introduction of a slip correction factor when the light absorption is determined in a high temperature environment. The minimum detectable absorption coefficient depends on the density, the specific heat and the temperature, which are thermodynamic properties. Without considering the slip correction, when the temperature of the environment is 400 K, the minimum detectable absorption coefficient for photothermal interferometry increases approximately 0.3% compared to the case of 300 K. The minimum detectable absorption coefficient for photoacoustic spectroscopy decreases only 0.2% compared to the case of 300 K. Photothermal interferometry differs only 0.5% point from photoacoustic spectroscopy. Thus, it is believed that photothermal interferometry is reliably comparable to photoacoustic spectroscopy under 400 K.
The present study investigated the effect of diameter and length on the absorption performance of a vertical falling film type absorber using $LiBr-H_2$O solution of 60 wt%. The parameters were diameter of absorber (17.2, 23.4, 31.1 mm), length of absorber (771, 1150, 1528 mm), and film Reynolds numbers (50, 70, 90, 110, 130, 150). As the diameter of the absorber was increased, the absorption mass flux, Sherwood number, heat flux, and heat transfer coefficient were increased, in which Sherwood number and heat transfer coefficient were increased up to 13% and 30% respectively. As the length of the absorber was increased, the total absorption rate and heat transfer coefficient were increased by 37% and 35% respectively, while the absorption mass flux was decreased.
The optical properties of the sea water were studied by use of underwater lux-meters in the coastal waters of Busan from May to November 1975. The absorption coefficient of the sea water in the area ranges from O. 169 to 1. 049 and the mean absorpflOn coefficient is 0.413. Maximum monthly mean absorption coefficient (0. 56) was observed in August, while the minimum was O. 338 in September. There was a distinct discontinuity layer of the absorption coefficient in accordance with the thermocline and the halocline in summer. The mean transparency of the area was 3. 8 meters, and transparency in autumn was higher than that in summer. The relation between absorption coefficient (m) and transparency (D) was deduced, m=1. 57/ D. The rate of light penetration at 5 m-layer of sea water was 2. 5 percent when the solar altitude was six degree in July 1975.
This study investigated the prospect of using peanut shells as an alternative and green sound-absorbing material. The sound-absorption coefficients were determined after filling impedance tubes of 30, 60, and 90 mm in height with peanut shells. The sound-absorption ability increased as the filling height increased, showing noise reduction coefficient (NRCs) of 0.23, 0.43, and 0.54 for the 30-, 60-, and 90-mm heights, respectively. In addition, for sounds greater than 2,000 Hz, the average sound-absorption coefficient of peanut shells in the 60- and 90-mm heights was 0.9. In summary, peanut shells were found to have good sound-absorption properties comparable to or better than those of bamboo, sisal, jute, and wool, and this research suggests that peanut shells may be useful as an environmentally friendly sound-absorbing material.

In this study, the acoustic properties of ceramic sound absorbing materials with different thickness and bulk density were investigated in terms of characteristic impedance, propagation constant, and absorption coefficient. The well-known two-cavity method was used for evaluating those acoustic parameter values. Also, in order to validate the experimentally measured values, the results were compared with the results obtained from Chung and Blaser's transfer function method and SWR method. The experimentally measured values of normal absorption coefficients were generally agreed well with the corresponding values from the transfer function method and the SWR method. Based on the experimental results, the following conclusions could be made. The magnitude of the absorption coefficient and the frequency range of the maximum absorption coefficient were controllable by changing the thickness and bulk density of the sound absorbing materials.
Sound absorption coefficient is affected by void in sound absorbing materials, therefore it is important to analyze properties of void pore. Also, it can be used to estimate performance of foamed concrete when it is applied to absorb sound. The purpose of this study is to analyze the sound absorption coefficient and void characteristic of foamed concrete using bottom ash. As a result of experiment, it was determined that an increase in sound absorption coefficient is achieved by increasing added amount of foam.
