Cerebellar maturation ratio of forebrain and brainstem at magnetic resonance imaging in the micropig

  • The study of pigs as a human disease model has been conducted in neuroscience. But the morphological development of pig brain by using MRI is rare. The purpose of this study is to determine whether cerebellum maintains consistent proportion to other brain regions in aging. Clinically healthy sixteen micropigs, 1, 2, 4, and 8 months were studied. The micropigs were anesthetized with isoflorane. MRI was acquired using a 0.3T system. To figure out development of ratio that allowed identification of normal cerebellum size, we measured the area of the cerebellum, brainstem, and forebrain from the mid-sagittal brain images on T1W. Mid-sagittal cross-sectional area (CSA) of total brain, forebrain, brainstem, and cerebellum were expressed as absolute values and also as percentages which were compared between the four age groups of micropigs for the purpose to define the effect of age on brain morphometry. It was found that there was not a significant difference in the percentage of the brain occupied by an individual region between groups although the absolute CSA differed significantly among age groups. There was no effect of age on the ratio between the cerebellum and total brain in 4 age groups. The normal size of cerebellum changes during brain development maintained a consistent ratio to other brain regions in normal micropigs. The ratio of CSA quantified on the mid-sagittal MR images offers a suitable method to detect presence of cerebellar anomalies in micropigs.

성인여성(成人女性)의 화운데이션 제품(製品)에 대한 인식(認識)과 착용(着用)에 관한 연구(硏究) (A Study on the Recognition and Actual Wearing Condition of Foundation Garments for Adult Women)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide for the basic data useful to the effective production and marketing of the foundation garments befitting adult women's body shapes and preferences, and thereby, help them improve their apparel life. For this purpose, 563 Korean adult women aged between 20-59 were sampled to survey their recognition and actual wearing condition of foundation garments and positively identify the factors affecting the practices and thereupon, determine the correlations among them by age group. Data is processed by a computer (SAS) and analyzed by using frequency, percentage, ${\chi}^2$-test, ANOVA, Duncan-test. The main results of this study are as follows; 1. The most of the adult women were aware of the basic underwear terminologies and the absolute majority of them wore brassieres, while a half of them used the girdles. In contrast, only a small portion of them wore body suites or waste-nippers and the absolute minority of them had garterbelts. 2. The use of the foundations depended much on users' ages or seasons. They had begun to wear brassieres and girdles at their age of 15 on average, and bodysuites, waist-nippers or garterbelts around their age of 20 depending on their individual needs. 3. The adult women had 3-6 brassieres and 2-3 girdles on average, but only a minority of them owned one or two body suites, waist-nippers or garterbelts. They had ever used the functional foundations (11.5%) or imported foundations (35.9%), It has been found through this study that adult women's recognition and actual wearing condition of their foundation garments differ by age group, which may well suggest that foundation production need to take such age-wise practices into consideration in setting up their foundation production and marketing strategies.

우리나라 동해안의 해안단구 형성시기와 융기율 (Formative Age of Coastal Terraces and Uplift Rate in the East Coast of South Korea)

  • This study tries to examine papers on coastal terrace in the East Coast of South Korea and to summarize formative age and elevation of the terrace. Spatial and temporal variations of uplift rate in the Coast based on absolute age published are also reviewed. The terrace in the middle part in the Coast from Goseong to Samcheok distributes in an elevation of 10-20 m and its formative age is MIS 5a. The terraces during MIS 5e and 7 develop on an elevation of 20-35 m and 60-80 m, respectively. The mid-southern part in the Coast from Uljin to Yeongil Bay has the terraces with elevations of 10-25 m and 25-45 m and their ages are MIS 5a or 5c and 5e, respectively. The terraces with elevations of 10-25 m and 30-45 m correspond to MIS 5a and 5e, respectively, in the southern part in the Coast from Homigot to Busan. Assuming that elevation of sea level during the formation of each terrace is the same as in the present time, uplift rates in the Coast range from 0.05 to 1.36 m/ky with an average of approximately 0.33 m/ky. The highest and lowest rates since MIS 5 are found in the Gyeongju (approximately 0.39 m/ky) and Pohang (approximately 0.19 m/ky) areas. With a consideration of elevation of sea level at that time, however, the middle, midsouthern and southern parts in the Coast show uplift rates of 0.16-0.28 m/ky, 0.20-0.36 m/ky and 0.24- 0.36 m/ky since MIS 5, respectively, suggesting that the southern part in the Coast has experienced relatively higher uplift rate.

얼굴영상의 초해상도화 및 Tanh-polar 변환 기반의 인지나이 예측 (Perceived Age Prediction from Face Image Based on Super-resolution and Tanh-polar Transform)

  • Perceived age is defined as age estimated based on physical appearance. Perceived age is an important indicator of the overall health status of the elderly. This is because people who appear older tend to have higher rates of morbidity and mortality than people of the same chronological age. Although perceived age is an important indicator, there is a lack of objective methods to quantify perceived age. In this paper, we construct a quantified perceived age model from face images using a convolutional neural network. The face images are enlarged to super-resolution and the skin, an important feature in perceived age, is made clear. Moreover, through Tanh-polar transformation, the central area of the face occupies a relatively larger area than the boundary area, helping the neural network better recognize facial skin features. The experimental results show mean absolute error (MAE) of 6.59, showing that the proposed model is superior to existing method.

절대평가법을 이용한 항만국통제 점검 표적점수 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on Targer Factor Value of Port State Control Inspection Using Absolute Measurement)

  • 최근 IMO에서는 항만국통제 우선점검 평가에 해양사고율을 평가항목에 추가로 포함하는 것에 대해 검토하고 있다. 본 연구는 절대 평가법을 이용한 항만국통제 우선점검을 위한 대상선박 선정법을 제안하였다. 이를 위해 항만국통제 우선점검 평가의 단점을 보완하고 합리적인 평가법으로 널리 알려진 절대평가법을 이용하였다. 또한 이 방법과 기존 도쿄MOU의 평가방법을 10척에 윌콕슨 검정으로 비교하여 유효성을 확인하였으며, 평가항목의 평가치를 변경하는 실험을 통해 PSC 우선점검 순위변동을 조사하였다. 그 결과 출항정지, 선령, 해양사고 등 평가항목의 가중치가 높은 평가치가 순위변동에 영향이 큰 것으로 나타나 이 항목들을 중점 관리하여 PSC를 예방할 필요가 있다는 점이 확인되었다.

인삼 앱솔루트 정유의 추출, 성분 분석 및 항균 활성 (Extraction, Component Analysis and Antibacterail Activity of Panax ginseng Absolute Essential Oil)

  • 웰빙 시대로 지칭되는 오늘날의 사회 특성으로부터 천연물에 대한 관심은 점점 증대되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 한국을 대표하는 생약재이자 향료식물인 인삼에 포함된 향료를 유기용매로 추출하여 앱솔루트 정유를 제조하고 그 성분을 분석하였다. 헥산과 에탄올 등 유기용제를 이용하여 제조된 인삼 앱솔루트 정유의 수율은 0.146%였으며, 주요성분은 neoclovene, panasinsene 및 calarene 등, sesquiterpene류가 주를 이루었다. 그 외에 110여 종의 인삼 향기 물질을 GC-MS 분석으로 확인하였다. 또한 일반세균 3종(대장균, 화농균, 녹농균), 효모균, 여드름균 및 비듬균에 대한 인삼정유 성분의 항균력을 측정한 결과 여드름균에 대한 강한 항균작용을 확인할 수 있었다.

The effectiveness of decompression for patients with dentigerous cysts, keratocystic odontogenic tumors, and unicystic ameloblastoma

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to verify the clinical effectiveness of decompression in decreasing the size of a cyst. In addition to the different types of cysts, we tried to reveal what effect host factors, such as the initial size of the lesion and the age of the patient, have on the velocity of cyst shrinkage. Materials and Methods: With the aid of a panoramic view, we measured the size of the cysts before and after decompression in 13 dentigerous cysts (DCs), 14 keratocystic odontogenic tumors (KTOCs), and 5 unicystic ameloblastoma (UA) cases. The velocity of shrinkage in the three cystic groups was calculated. Relationships between the age of the patient, the initial size of the cyst, and the shrinkage velocity were investigated. Results: The three types of cysts showed no inter-type differences in their velocity of shrinkage. However, there was a statistically meaningful relationship between the initial size of the lesion and the absolute velocity of shrinkage in the DC group (P=0.02, R=0.65) and the KTOC group (P=0.02, R=0.56). There was also a significant relationship between the age of the patient and the absolute velocity of shrinkage in the KTOC group (P=0.04, R=0.45) and the UA group (P=0.04, R=0.46). Conclusion: There was no difference in the decrease in size due to decompression among the different types of cysts. However, the age of the patient and the initial size of the lesion showed a significant relationship with the velocity of shrinkage.

진주 장흥리 와요지 유적의 절대편년연구 (The Study of Absolute Dating on Jinju Janghungri Kiln site.)

  • This study carried out to understand thermoluminescence dating of ancient tiles at Jinju Janghungri Kilin site. Also radiocarbon dating by the benzene synthesis method and Liquid scintillation counting method were performed for comparison for the agedetermination of charcoal sample at the obtained same site.1st and 2nd glow curve were obtained according to the typical method thermoluminescence. Plateau tests of revealed the proper temperature range to be $300~440^{\circ}C$ Palaeodose average values were formed to the 2.44Gy.Annual dose of ancient tiles was calculated from soil samples and ancient tiles it self by measuring alpha radiation dose, potassium concentrations and water contents respectively. Annual dose average values were calculated to be 7.012mGy/yr.The radiocarbon age(BP year) was converted to calibrated age(AD/BC year) using high precision curve. Radiocarbon ages were calculated to be AD 15~17 .Comparison of samples with their radiocarbon and thermoluminescence ages for revealed the in range the AD 15~17. This result means that the measured absolute ages are in good agreement with each other within the margin of error.

동해안의 융기율도와 융기율 분포 (Uplift Rate Map and Distribution of Uplift Rate in the East Coast of the Korean Peninsula)

  • This study tried to produce an uplift rate map and reveal the spatial distribution of the rate with topographical characteristics and absolute ages on marine terrace in the East Coast of the Korean Peninsula. Based on a total of 57 ages at 26 sites from previous study and 13 ages at 13 sites from this study, the coast showed the rates ranging from 0.145 m/ka to 0.410m/ka with an average of 0.258 m/ka. The highest and lowest rates were found from the Jeongdongjin area in Gangneung and the Goraebul area in Yeongdeok, respectively. However, some areas in the coast showed large differences in the rate among the sites. In addition, areas with only 1 age were also found, indicative of low reliability. This study suggests that a more reliable and precise interpretation on the rate can be made with more ages identified, especially in Goseong to northern part of Gangneung, middle and southern parts of Samcheok and Yeongdeok, southern part of Pohang to northern part of Gyeongju, and Ulsan.
