  • Commercial Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) image processing software products currently used in the industry provides camera calibration information and block bundle adjustment accuracy. However, they provide mapping accuracy achievable out of input UAV images. In this paper, the quality of mapping is calculated by using orientation parameters from UAV image processing software. We apply the orientation parameters to the digital photogrammetric workstation (DPW) for verifying the reliability of the mapping quality calculated. The quality of mapping accuracy was defined as three types of accuracy: Y-parallax, relative model and absolute model accuracy. The Y-parallax is an accuracy capable of determining stereo viewing between stereo pairs. The Relative model accuracy is the relative bundle adjustment accuracy between stereo pairs on the model coordinates system. The absolute model accuracy is the bundle adjustment accuracy on the absolute coordinate system. For the experimental data, we used 723 images of GSD 5 cm obtained from the rotary wing UAV over an urban area and analyzed the accuracy of mapping quality. The quality of the relative model accuracy predicted by the proposed technique and the maximum error observed from the DPW showed precise results with less than 0.11 m. Similarly, the maximum error of the absolute model accuracy predicted by the proposed technique was less than 0.16 m.

  • Recently a new signal processing algorithm for white light interferometry was presented. In this paper, the proposed signal processing algorithm was applied for absolute temperature measurement using white light interferometry. Stability testing and absolute temperature measurement were demonstrated. Stability test demonstrated the feasibility of absolute temperature measurement with an accuracy of 0.015 fringe. The test also showed that the absolute temperature measurement system using white light interferometry is capable of obtaining the theoretical minimum detectable change (0.0005 fringe), which is consistent with the performance predicted by the proposed signal processing algorithm.

  • The linear absolute shrinkage and selection operator(Lasso) method improves the low prediction accuracy and poor interpretation of the ordinary least squares(OLS) estimate through the use of $L_1$ regularization on the regression coefficients. However, the Lasso is not robust to outliers, because the Lasso method minimizes the sum of squared residual errors. Even though the least absolute deviation(LAD) estimator is an alternative to the OLS estimate, it is sensitive to leverage points. We propose a robust Lasso estimator that is not sensitive to outliers, heavy-tailed errors or leverage points.

  • Absolute position sensors are widely used in machine tools and precision measuring instruments because measurement errors are not accumulated, and position measurements can be performed without initialization. The laser speckle-based absolute position sensor, in particular, has advantages in terms of simple system configuration and high measurement accuracy. Unlike traditional absolute position sensors, it does not require an expensive physical length scale; instead, it uses a laser speckle image database to measure a moving surface position. However, there is a problem that a huge database is required to store information in all positions on the surface. Conversely, reducing the size of the database also decreases the accuracy of position measurements. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new method to measure the surface position with high precision while reducing the size of the database. We use image stitching and approximation methods to reduce database size and speed up measurements. The absolute position error of the proposed method was about 0.27 ± 0.18 ㎛, and the average measurement time was 25 ms.

  • As technologies evolve, diverse 3D measurement techniques using cameras and pattern projectors have been developed continuously. In 3D measurement, high accuracy, fast speed, and easy implementation are very important factors. Recently, 3D measurement using multi-frequency fringe patterns for absolute phase computation has been widely used in the fringe projection profilometry. This paper proposes an improved method to compute the object's absolute phase using the reference plane's absolute phase and phase difference between the object and the reference plane. This method finds the object's absolute phase by adding the difference between the reference plane's wrapped phase and the object's wrapped phase to the reference plane's absolute phase already obtained in the calibration stage. Through this method, there is no need to obtain multi-frequency fringe patterns about new object for the absolute phase computation. Instead, we only need the object's phase difference relative to the reference planes's phase in the measurement stage.

  • Purpose : This study was to evaluate the influence of slice thickness of computed tomography (CT) and rapid protyping (RP) type on the accuracy of 3-dimensional medical model. Materials and Methods: Transaxial CT data of human dry skull were taken from multi-detector spiral CT. Slice thickness were 1, 2, 3 and 4 mm respectively. Three-dimensional image model reconstruction using 3-D visualization medical software (V-works /sup TM/ 3.0) and RP model fabrications were followed. 2-RP models were 3D printing (Z402, Z Corp., Burlington, USA) and Stereolithographic Apparatus model. Linear measurements of anatomical landmarks on dry skull, 3-D image model, and 2-RP models were done and compared according to slice thickness and RP model type. Results: There were relative error percentage in absolute value of 0.97, 1.98,3.83 between linear measurements of dry skull and image models of 1, 2, 3 mm slice thickness respectively. There was relative error percentage in absolute value of 0.79 between linear measurements of dry skull and SLA model. There was relative error difference in absolute value of 2.52 between linear measurements of dry skull and 3D printing model. Conclusion: These results indicated that 3-dimensional image model of thin slice thickness and stereolithographic RP model showed relative high accuracy.

  • In this paper, an efficient multi-level successive elimination algorithm using the locality in block was proposed for motion estimation. If SAD(sum of absolute difference) is calculated from large absolute difference values to small absolute difference values, SAD is increased rapidly. So, partial distortion elimination in SAD calculation can be done very early. Hence, the computations of SAD calculation can be reduced. In this paper, an efficient algorithm to calculate SAD from large absolute difference values to small absolute difference values by using the locality in block. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is an efficient algorithm with 100% motion estimation accuracy for the motion estimation of motion vectors.

  • PURPOSE. The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the fitting accuracy of single crowns made from a novel presintered Co-Cr alloy prepared with a computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technique, as compared with crowns manufactured by other digital and the conventional casting technique. Additionally, the influence of oxide layer on the fitting accuracy of specimens was tested. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A total of 40 test specimens made from Co-Cr alloy were investigated according to the fitting accuracy using a replica technique. Four different methods processing different materials were used for the manufacture of the crown copings (milling of presintered (Ceramill Sintron-group_cer_sin) or rigid alloy (Tizian NEM-group_ti_nem), selective laser melting (Ceramill NPL-group_cer_npl), and casting (Girobond NB-group_gir_nb)). The specimens were adapted to a resin model and the outer surfaces were airborne-particle abraded with aluminum oxide. After the veneering process, the fitting accuracy (absolute marginal discrepancy and internal gap) was evaluated by the replica technique in 2 steps, before removing the oxide layer from the intaglio surface of the crowns, and after removing the layer with aluminum oxide airborne-particle abrasion. Statistical analysis was performed by multifactorial analysis of variance (ANOVA) (α=.05). RESULTS. Mean absolute marginal discrepancy ranged between 20 ㎛ (group_cer_npl for specimens of Ceramill NPL) and 43 ㎛ (group_cer_sin for crowns of Ceramill Sintron) with the oxide layer and between 19 ㎛ and 28 ㎛ without the oxide layer. The internal gap varied between 33 ㎛ (group_ti_nem for test samples of Tizian NEM) and 75 ㎛ (group_gir_nb for the base material Girobond NB) with the oxide layer and between 30 ㎛ and 76 ㎛ without the oxide layer. The absolute marginal discrepancy and the internal gap were significantly influenced by the fabrication method used (P<.05). CONCLUSION. Different manufacturing techniques had a significant influence on the fitting accuracy of single crowns made from Co-Cr alloys. However, all tested crowns showed a clinically acceptable absolute marginal discrepancy and internal gap with and without oxide layer and could be recommended under clinical considerations. Especially, the new system Ceramill Sintron showed acceptable values of fitting accuracy so it can be suggested in routine clinical work.

  • In this paper, we propose the fast block matching algorithm with half pel accuracy using the lower bound of mean absolute difference (MAD) at search point of half pel accuracy motion estimation. The proposed method uses the lower bound of MAD at search point of half pel accuracy which calculated from MAD's at search points of integer pel accuracy. We can reduce the computational complexity by executing the block matching operation only at the necessary search point. The points are selected when the lower bound of MAD at that point is smaller than reference MAD of integer pel motion estimation. Experimental results show that the proposed method can reduce the computational complexity considerably and keeping the same performance with conventional method.

  • The objective of this short communication is to introduce several evaluation methods to crop model users because the evaluation of crop model performance is an important step to develop or select crop model. In this paper, mean error, mean absolute error, index of agreement, root mean square error, efficiency of model, accuracy factor and bias factor were explained and compared in terms of dimension and observed number. Efficiency of model and index of agreement are dimensionless and independent of number of observation. Relative root mean square, accuracy factor and bias factor are dimensionless and not independent of number of observation. Mean error and mean absolute error are affected by dimension and number of observation.
