  • Habitat types, community structure and population characteristics of Koelreuteria paniculata were investigated in Mt. Wolak, Chungbuk and Naesokdong, Daegu, which are natural habitats of the species in inland region of Korea, and its origin was discussed. Habitats of Koelreuteria paniculata were classified to 3 types: sand bar formed by the sands flooded in the course of flow of the mountain stream (Type 1). crevice on the rock bed within the mountain stream (Type 2) and crevice of the rock around the edge of mountain stream (Type 3). Most Koelreuteria paniculata communities in Mt. Wolak site were composed of 3 layers of subtree layer, shrub layer and herb layer and that of Daegu site was 4 layers including tree layer. In the floristic composition of the Koelreuteria paniculata community, plants occurring frequently in the wet and open site, such as Zelkova serrata and Fraxinus rhynchoph-vlla showed high frequency. Frequency distribution of diameter at ground surface of Koelreutrria paniculata showed reversed J-shaped type. It was supposed that expansion of Koelreuteria paniculata community in Mt. Wolak site might be accomplished by the flow of the stream. Many saplings capable of becoming a successor of mature trees in Daegu site in near degenerating phase were established on the forest floor of the Koelreuteria paniculata community. From this result, it was supposed that these saplings originated from the seeds dispersed from a seed tree might form the Koelreuteria paniculata community of the next generation. On the other hand, the origin of Koelreutevia paniculata in inland sites was explained by two hypotheses: the one was that Koelreuteria paniculata might be transplanted by human and the other was that the present site might be native habitat of the community.

  • A large leakage current may be one of the critical issues for poly-silicon thin film transistors(poly-Si TFTs) for LCD applications. In order to reduce the leakage current of poly-Si TFTs, several offset gated structures have been reported. However, those devices, where the offset length in the source region is not same as that in the drain region, exhibit the asymmetric electrical performances such as the threshold voltage shift and the variation of the subthreshold slope. The different offset length is caused by the additional mask step for the conventional offset structures. Also the self-aligned implantation may not be applicable due to the mis-alignment problem. In this paper, we propose a new fabrication method for poly-Si TFTs with a self-aligned offset gated structure by employing a photo resistor reflow process. Compared with the conventional poly-Si TFTs, the device is consist of two gate electrodes, of which one is the entitled main gate where the gate bias is employed and the other is the entitled subgate which is separate from both sides of the main gate. The poly-Si channel layer below the offset oxide is protected from the injected ion impurities for the source/drain implantation and acts as an offset region of the proposed device. The key feature of our new device is the offset lesion due to the offset oxide. Our experimental results show that the offset region, due to the photo resistor reflow process, has been successfully obtained in order to fabricate the offset gated poly-Si TFTs. The advantages of the proposed device are that the offset length in the source region is the same as that in the drain region because of the self-aligned implantation and the proposed device does not require any additional mask process step.

  • Recently, offshore wind farms are increasingly expected, because there are huge resource and large site in offshore. Jeju island has optimum condition for constructing a wind energy farm. Unlike the mainland, Jeju island has stratified structure distribution between rock layers sediments due to volcanic activation. In these case, it can be occur engineering problems in whole structures as well as the safety of foundation as the thickness and distribution of sediment under top rock layer can not support sufficiently the structure. One of the most obvious applications of the pressuremeter test is the solution of the problem of laterally loaded piles. A hyperbolic non-linear p-y criterion for rock is developed in this study that can be used in LPILE program, to predict the deflection, moment, and shear reponses of a shaft under the applied lateral loads. Finally, a comparison between the predicted and measured response at two different sites is shown to give an idea of the accuracy of the IFP method.

  • From the ancient to these days, there have been used many kinds of pigment which have two types that are inorganic pigment and organic pigment. At the ancient times, natural pigment had been used but the artificially mixed pigment has been used in modern times. By the way, searching for studies has been studied recently, it would be said the ancient pigments such as Danchung, Wall painting and Mural painting are the mainthema. However, studies about the pigments used in modern pictured relics have rarely can be found. Therefore, this analysis of Ilweolokdo would be important at the point of the pigments used in pictures of royal family in modern times and the results can be briefly summarized as below; Firstly, the results of qualitative analysis of the pigments that base or all pigments of picture was detected components of Ca, Fe and As, this results meaning that picture was used filler and basic paint. Secondly, a result of the analysis on the composition elements of the pigments shows that the main components in their composition are ;White - Lead Cyanamide($2PbCO_3$.$Pb(OH)_2$) or Titanium Oxide($TiO_2$)Blue - Ultramarine($2(Na_2O$.$Al_2O_3$ .$2Si_O2$).$Na_2S_2$)Green - Emerald green($C_2H_3A_s3Cu_2O_8$)Gold - Gold(Au), Red-Red Lead($Pb_3O_4$) or Cinnabar(HgS)Black - Carbon(C)Thirdly, X-ray diffraction analysis of crystalline structure for the blue and green pigment peeling off in picture shows that the components of blue pigment is Ultramarine($2(Na_2O$.$Al_2O_3$ .$2Si_O2$).$Na_2S_2$) and green pigment is Emerald green($C_2H_3A_s3Cu_2O_8$). Especially, microcrystalline structure of the green pigment was the shape like a cross section of wood. Consequently, we knew through the analysis of qualitative and microcrystallinestructures seen on the cross section of analyzed pigments layer that the all pigments used in the Ilweoloakdo is possible to use synthetic pigments in modern.

  • This research conducted a vegetation survey on Mt. Changbai which are habitats of Papaver radicatum var. pseudoradicatum to obtain a basic data for artificial cultivation. The habitas of P. radicatum var. pseudoradicatum consisted of two communities as Dryas octopetala var. asiatica community and Aconogonon ajanense community. The community units as D. octopetala var. asiatica community and A. ajanense community belong to alpine vegetation in Mt. Changbai. A. ajanense community is distributed around altitude of 2007-2061m, and D. octopetala var. asiatica community is distributed altitude of 2350-2570m at relatively high elevation. According to the correlation between the vegetation structure and elevation. This vegetation structure can be simplified at the herb layer. The vegetation is classified into D. octopetala var. asiatica community and A. ajanense community on the axis 1 basis in the BC ordination analysis. Further, there appeared higher plant life totalling to 40 taxa comprising 35 species, 4 varieties and 1 forma with 20 families and 34 genuses at the whole survey area. Among these, Cyperaceae and Ericaceae plants excellent in resistance to environment was surveyed the most, accounting for 16%.

  • A non-reacting experimental study on a normal injection into a Mach 1.92 crossflow which flows over various geometries(flat plate, small cavity, large cavity) was carried out to investigate the effect of the momentum flux ratio(J). The aft ramp of the cavity advances the increase of the penetration height and the strong two-dimensional shock from recompression region mainly affects the shock structure and mixing layer at the downstream flow. As flow runs downward, the transverse penetration height increases with increasing J(J = 0.9, 1.7, 3.4). However, above some critical ratio, jet penetration height growth with increasing J is not appeared in flow-field. Large scale cavity has a good mixing efficiency but it increases the drag loss in the combustor.

  • Temporal change of a warm eddy off Sogcho was studied using satellite infrared images from January to lune 1992 and its structure was investigated by the observations in Hay. There were two kinds of event for eddy formation. IR images in January indicated that the eddy Haying a horizontal dimension of about 200km was first formed by an injection of warm water. After some deformation and cooling processes the second restrengthening event took place in late March when a warm filament began to penetrate northward and circumvented the preexisting eddy. This eddy became a complete ring-shape with cooled water arrested inside from April to May. The maximum thickness of the isothermal subsurface layer with temperature of $10.0-10.4^{\circ}C$ was about 170m. Except that the current velocity was about 80cm/sec near the axis of the last Korea Warm Current close to Sogcho, the interior of the eddy had an anticyclonic motion with overall swirl velocity of 30-50cm/sec. Velocity rapidly decreased vertically below the main thermocline.

  • Ontologies are the core components of the Semantic Web and knowledge-based systems. But it is difficult to find useful ontologies in actual domains. In order to build useful domain ontology, the conceptualization of the domain knowledge by knowledge experts of the specific domain and the specification of conceptualized knowledge with formal languages by ontology designers are required. In addition, structured and detailed guidelines and methods should be provided to be shared by the development team members. However, existing ontology building methodologies define and describe the skeletal structure of the whole building process at the top-layer. We build a useful academic ontology that is based on the conceptual knowledge structure in the domain of philosophy, and propose a detailed methodology to build a text ontology based on Topic Maps. Our methodology consists of two phases, ontology modelling and ontology implementation. We implement a philosophy knowledge portal to support retrieving and navigating of the philosophy knowledge.

  • The foundation of a tall building frame resting on settable soil mass undergoes differential settlements which alter the forces in the structural members significantly. For tall buildings it is essential to consider seismic forces in analysis. The building frame, foundation and soil mass are considered to act as single integral compatible structural unit. The stress-strain characteristics of the supporting soil play a vital role in the interaction analysis. The resulting differential settlements of the soil mass are responsible for the redistribution of forces in the superstructure. In the present work, the nonlinear interaction analysis of a two-bay ten-storey plane building frame- layered soil system under seismic loading has been carried out using the coupled finite-infinite elements. The frame has been considered to act in linear elastic manner while the soil mass to act as nonlinear elastic manner. The subsoil in reality exists in layered formation and consists of various soil layers having different properties. Each individual soil layer in reality can be considered to behave in nonlinear manner. The nonlinear layered system as a whole will undergo differential settlements. Thus, it becomes essential to study the structural behaviour of a structure resting on such nonlinear composite layered soil system. The nonlinear constitutive hyperbolic soil model available in the literature is adopted to model the nonlinear behaviour of the soil mass. The structural behaviour of the interaction system is investigated as the shear forces and bending moments in superstructure get significantly altered due to differential settlements of the soil mass.

  • Based on the X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and M ssbauer spectroscopy, the thermal behavior and phase transformations of two clays are investigated for raw and fired conditions, which are collected from Kwangryeongli and Ildo district in Cheju Island. M ssbauer spectra at room temperature and 20for two clays show that paramagnetic Fe3- is the structural iron of the layer silicate and ferrihydrite, and superparamagnetic goethite has about 50% of total iron contents. The XRD peaks of hematite for the fired clays appear from 80$0^{\circ}C$ in Kwangryeongli clay and from $600^{\circ}C$ in Ildo district clay, respectively. The structural Fe2+ was completely oxidized into Fe3- at 40$0^{\circ}C$ for Kwangryeongli clay and 50$0^{\circ}C$~$600^{\circ}C$ for Ildo district clay, respectively. The structural Fe2+ was completely oxidized into Fe3- at 40$0^{\circ}C$. For the temperature ranging from 40$0^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$~80$0^{\circ}C$, two fired clays exhibit the dehydroxylation of the clay mineral. A disintegration of the clay mineral structure is observed from $700^{\circ}C$~80$0^{\circ}C$ to 110$0^{\circ}C$, followed by the onset and spread of vitrification process. It is also shown that well-crystallized hematite phase is formed at the temperature higher than 110$0^{\circ}C$ and the relative absorption area decreases, which might be related to the recrystallization of alluminosilicate matrix.
