Purpose: Flipped learning is a novel teaching strategy for encouraging students to engage in the learning process. This study aimed to redesign the public health nursing course and examine the implications of flipped learning on learning outcomes, self-efficacy, and self-leadership in undergraduate programs. Methods: A one-group, pretest-posttest design was used. A total of 80 students participated in this study. The flipped learning method was employed between April 14 and June 5, 2016. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and an independent t-test. Results: The self-efficacy of the lower 25% group based on academic performance was significantly increased; however, self-leadership did not show any change after utilizing flipped learning. Overall, 65.4% of the students were satisfied with their class. Conclusion: Flipped learning was an effective strategy for students with low achievement. Despite these advantages, it was considered to reduce the burden of studying.
This study was conducted to investigate academic self-efficacy, learning motivation, and self-directed learning which influence problem-solving ability in nursing students. A total of 217 third year students were recruited from two nursing colleges in Gwangju. Structured questionnaire was self-administered from March 2 to 31, 2012. In academic self-efficacy, there were significant differences in gender, high school type, character. Problem-solving ability showed statistically significant differences in curriculum usability after graduation. In multiple regression analysis, self-efficacy, learning motivation and self-directed learning were significant factors of problem-solving ability explaining 37.3% of the variables. In conclusion, self-efficacy, learning motivation, and self-directed learning had a positive effect on problem-solving ability in nursing students. To enhance problem-solving ability for nursing students, it is necessary to develop teaching program and curriculum for increasing academic self-efficacy, learning motivation, and self-directed learning.
Students mostly precede their learning without any direct support of instructor in e-learning and mobile educational environment. Many useful strategies and tools to facilitate self-regulated learning behaviors in e-learning environment have been introduced, yet, the limit has been reached by only suggesting self-regulated strategies with visual information in the most researches. Accordingly, this research is intent to propose the sound design strategies that facilitate learner's self-regulated learning behaviors in mobile learning environment. To achieve the objective of the research, two research questions are presented. First, what are the sound design strategies that facilitate the self -regulated learning behaviors in mobile learning environment?. Second, what are the results of evaluating the developed sound design strategies in terms of facilitating self-regulated learning behaviors?. To solve these research questions, the literature reviews on characteristics of mobile learning, concepts and features of self-regulated learning and sound were done to establish the sound design strategies. Through formative research method targeting instructional designers, sound design strategies were modified and supplemented. The research to validate these was performed and to verify the effect of the derived sound design strategies, the usability test aimed at instructional designer and learners was conducted. The final sound design strategies through this research process were six general design strategies and the sixteen detailed strategies. This research is meaningful because this offers the basic research on sound information design which has been lacking and help upgrade the upper limit of instructional design which mainly focused on visual information in mobile learning environment that shows information in a small screen.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify and understand the self-directed learning patterns of nurses. Q methodology was used to collect the data. Method: For the research method, 43 Q-statements were collected through individual interviews and a review of related literature. The 43 Q-statements were classified by the 34 participants in the study and the data was analyzed by the PC-QUANL program with principal component analysis. Result: There were 4 different patterns of self-directed learning classified as follows : Nurses in Type I the Future Provision Type, studied to promote their own professional development and leadership qualities for the future. Nurses in Type II, the Learning Passion Type, enjoyed learning something new and had a strong learning desire. Nurses in Type III, the Self-reflective Type, continuously evaluated self and their own practice by introspection. Nurses in Type IV, the Accompanying Companion Type, studies with companion support and maintained a collaborative relationship rather than competing with each other. Conclusion: This study explains and allows us to understand self-directed learning in nurses. Thus this study will contribute to building a theoretical base for the development of a self-directed learning model in nursing practice.
This study attempted to develop an efficient management plan that allows both workers and organizations to coexist by analyzing the factors that influence the level of organizational immersion of engineering students. Analysis methods included frequency analysis, t-test, pearson correlation analysis, and hierarchical analysis. Firstly, self-esteem and transfer of learning were influential factors on organizational commitment. Second, self-esteem and transfer of learning were influencing factors of self-efficacy. Third, self-efficacy was an influential factor in organizational commitment. Fourth, self-efficacy appeared as a mediating effect on self-esteem and organizational immersion in learning transfer. Therefore, it is necessary to look for various factors that can increase self-efficacy, and to find opportunities for students to be highly immersed in the organization while studying at the same time.
This study aims to investigate the effects of self-efficacy and self-directed learning readiness to self-leadership of nursing students. The data of self-efficacy, self-directed learning readiness and self-leadership was collected for the nursing students of K university in K city from Sep. 2015 to Nov. 2015. The results show that self-efficacy is different according to subjects' age, and self-directed learning readiness is different according to the grade. The correlations among self-efficacy, self-directed learning readiness and self-leadership are significant, and the self-directed learning readiness is a significant predictor of self-leadership. It is expected that the nursing students will be able to act as a leader in clinical practice and health care by promoting self-directed learning readiness from the university education, and it is required to develop and operate the self-directed learning readiness program including the opinions of learners.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of cooperative learning on the learning attitude and self-directed learning capability of learners. Methods: The subjects were 50 sophomores enrolled in cooperative learning for 12-week period from March to June, 2014. A self-reported questionnaire was completed by the subjects. The instruments were 16 questions of learning attitude, 32 questions of self-directed learning, academic achievement, and 12 questions of satisfaction with instruction by Likert 5 scale. Cronbach's alpha was 0.84 in the previous study and 0.78 in this study. Self-directed learning was modified by Yoo and Cheong. Cronbach's alpha of self-directed learning was 0.86 in this study. Academic achievement was assessed by before and after the cooperative learning class. Cronbach's alpha was 0.95 in this study. Their learning attitude and self-directed learning capability were evaluated before and after the cooperative learning, and their satisfaction with the instruction and academic achievement were assessed by the written examination. Results: The score of learning attitude increased from 2.89 in the pretest to 3.38 in the posttest. The self-directed learning of the students increased from 2.98 in the pretest to 3.48 in the posttest. The academic achievement of students also increased from 82.0 in the pretest to 85.2 in the posttest. The satisfaction with instruction was 4.24 of Likert 5 scale. There were significant differences in satisfaction with instruction, cooperative learning and academic achievement. Conclusions: It is important to develop the cooperative learning program linked to self-directed learning for the dental hygiene students continuously. This study will provide the basic data and information for the development of new teaching methods for the dental hygiene.
In this paper, we tried to find out what makes the students feel anxious to mathematics and the ways to decrease their anxiety by comparing two learning types, self-directed-learning and learning in a body, by means of continuous observation and interviews. To perform this study, two classes of self-directed-learning and other two classes of learning-in a body were chosen from the third year-students in Wando Middle School in Chollanamdo. In this study, we obtained the following results: 1. In high group in math grade, students in self-directed-learning are less anxious than students in learning-in a body. 2. In average group in math grade, students in self-directed-learning are much more anxious than students in learning-in a body. 3. In low group in math grade, both students in self-directed-learning and students in teaming-in a body feel anxious about math and there is no difference between them. 4. Anxiety about math hove positive influence on high group in math grade. 5. Anxiety about math have negative influence on average and low groups in math grade. Especially, low group students had no interests about mathematics because of their math anxiety. We observed that some students got over the math anxiety to some meaningful extent by means of interviews or appropriate advices, and became to have confidence and interests in mathematics.
The emergence of distance learning through Information and Communication Technologies(ICT) requires a lot of abilities from learners, and these become main features to a successful learning. Accordingly, a self-regulated learning is one of the key abilities required by the learners, Hence this study is aimed to develop Web-Based Instruction(WBI) systems that support this self-regulated learning. The self-regulated learning not only provides significant positive learning effects, but also appropriates to apply on the WBI because it has learning-structure of specified instruction process and each process requires separated spaces. Therefore, in this study, a model of self-regulated learning system on the web is developed.
The purpose of this study is to verify the effects of self-respect, academic self-efficacy, and career maturity on student adaptation to college and learning persistence. For this study, a web survey was conducted on the students who were in college of engineering at D college in Seoul. A total of 702 samples were analyzed for this research. The major findings of this study are as follows. First, all variables (self-respect, academic self-efficacy, career maturity) had positive effects on student adaptation to college significantly. Secondly, self-respect and academic self-efficacy had positive effects on learning persistence except career maturity. Thridly, the mediation analyses revealed that the relations between learning persistence and self-respect, academic self-efficacy, and career maturity were partially mediated by student adaptation to college. Finally, student adaptation to college had also positive effects on learning persistence. The results indicate a need to enhance student adaptation to college and design programs that support learning persistence for university students.
