  • Biomechanical can physchological approaches have provided the optimum stair dimensions but physiological approach has never been used in assessing the common method of assessing the optimum stair dimension. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the validity of the physiological measure of heart rate in assessing the optimum stair dimensions. Sixteen subjects were asked to walk up three different stairs with their normal walking speed. The results showed that the physiological approach with the heart rate difference was found to be valid in assessing the optimum stair dimension. The optimum stair dimension from this study (riser length for 185 mm and tread length for 310 mm) was chosen because it was similar to optimum dimension by the psychological approach (Irvine et al., 1990).

  • In this study, establishment of standard design procedure and optimum dimension of the embedded steel-plate cellular bulkheads for seawall structures in deep water sites has been presented. A computer program was developed to asses feasible dimensions of steel-plate cell, and general equations to determine optimum cell diameter and embedment depth are derived for sand. A model experiment to verify the necessary driving force of vibratory hammer system was also performed and driving force data pertinent to optimum cell dimension are presented.

  • Granular Compaction Pile are commonly used to improve bearing capacity and reduce settlements of soft soil in coastal and lowland areas. In this paper, through the field load test results of straight granular compaction piles and taper granular compaction piles, material properties of ground and GCP for numerical analysis were drawn and numerical model was established. In the numerical analysis of taper granular compaction piles with 3 different sections, a optimum dimension of taper granular compaction pile was considered at the side of settlement.

  • This paper is considered with the problem of embedding complete binary trees into 3-dimensional meshes using dimension-ordered routing with primary concern of minimizing link congestion. The authors showed that a complete binary tree with $2^P-1$ nodes can be embedded into a 3-dimensional mesh with optimum size, $2^P$ nodes, if the link congestion is two[14], (More precisely, the link congestion of each dimension is two, two, and one if the dimension-ordered routing is used, and two, one, and one if the dimension-ordered routing is not imposed.) In this paper, we present a scheme to find an embedding of a complete binary tree into a 3-dimensional mesh of size no larger than 1.27 times the optimum with link congestion one while using dimension-ordered routing.

  • Critical dimension is one of the most important characteristics of up-to-date integrated circuit devices. Hence, critical dimension control in a semiconductor wafer fabrication process is inevitable in order to achieve optimum device yield as well as electrically specified functions. Currently, in complex semiconductor wafer fabrication processes, statistical methodologies such as Shewhart-type control charts become crucial tools for practitioners. Meanwhile, given a critical dimension sampling plan, the analysis of variance technique can be more effective to investigating critical dimension variation, especially for on-chip and on-wafer variation. In this paper, relating to a typical sampling plan, linear statistical models are presented for the analysis of critical dimension variation. A case study is illustrated regarding a semiconductor wafer fabrication process.

  • As information technologies are improving, geographical information system (GIS) technologies are also developing rapidly and demands for spatial analysis with GIS are increasing. Particularly, the spatial analyses with GIS researches have been noted rather than general GIS researches. However, most GIS researches focus on space dimension: a density-based clustering method (DBSCAN) or a DBSCAN algorithm using region expressed as Weight (DBSCAN-W) but the importance of rational decision making based on time dimension has been neglected. This study adopts system dynamics in order to put time dimension in GIS-based optimum allocation.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the method of prevention of staircase accidents, and to make housing environment better through researching the dimension of a housing staircase for Korean. The scope and method of this thesis is to investigate the dimension limits of a staircase (slope, minimum width of tread, maximum height of riser), and to analyze the characteristics of foot condition (jutting rate, foot angle, ball joint, nosing clearance, clearance distance) using the experiment which takes a photograph of foot motion during walking stairs. The results of this thesis are as follows. The slope of a staircase in house is $32.3^{\circ}$$^{\circ}$-$42.1^{\circ}$$^{\circ}$. The riser should be less than 190 mm. The minimum size of tread is 210 mm and proper size is 270 mm.

  • The optimum rotation speed of a desiccant rotor is studied theoretically based on a theoretical solution to the heat and mass transfer processes in the desiccant rotor. A simple correlation equation for the optimum rotation speed is derived to show the effects of various parameters including the thermo-physical properties, the geometric dimension, and the operating condition of the desiccant rotor. The theoretical result is compared with existing experimental data to validate the linearization and simplification included in the solution procedure. Based on the theoretical solution, the effects of major parameters on the optimum rotation speed are studied and the fundamental mechanism of the influences is investigated.

  • In this paper, we propose a content-based audio genre classification algorithm that automatically classifies the query audio into five genres such as Classic, Hiphop, Jazz, Rock, Speech using digital signal processing approach. From the 20 second query audio file, 54 dimensional feature vectors, including Spectral Centroid, Rolloff, Flux, LPC, MFCC, is extracted from each query audio. For the classification algorithm, k-NN, Gaussian, GMM classifier is used. In order to choose optimum features from the 54 dimension feature vectors, SFS (Sequential Forward Selection) method is applied to draw 10 dimension optimum features and these are used for the genre classification algorithm. From the experimental result, we verify the superior performance of the SFS method that provides near $90{\%}$ success rate for the genre classification which means $10{\%}$-$20{\%}$ improvements over the previous methods

  • In subband structure, the fullband AP adaptive filter with P projection dimension can be decomposed P adaptive sub-filters by applying maximally polyphase decomposition and noble identity. Each adaptive sub-filter has a simple weight update formula with the unit projection dimension. This subband decomposition method is one of the most practical solution in the viewpoint of implementation. For utilization in many applications, it is necessary that analysis for the optimum step size of the maximally polyphase decomposed subband AP(MPDSAP) adaptive filter. In this paper, we present an improved analysis model of mean square error and induce the initial optimum step size for the MPDSAP adaptive filter. Computer simulations show that there is a relatively good match between theory and practice for the improved analysis model of MSE and the induced initial optimum step size.
