  • In this paper, A VCO(Voltage Controlled Oscillator) in use of clock recovery/data regeneration circuit for 10 Gbps fiber optic receivers was developed. The improved hair-pin resonator with a parallel coupled lines, which has been applied to microstrip filters, was used as a resonance part. As a frequcncy tuning device by substituting 3-terminalMESFET vaaractor for varactor diode, an MMIC manufacturing process will be simplified. Since a hair-pin resonator is planar type compared to the dielectric resonator and has a relatively flat reactance verus frequency, it will be favorable to apply a hair-pin resonator to an MMIC, in addition wideband frequency tuning range is able to be obtained.

  • In this paper, the driving systems of the Fiber Optic Gyrocompass absolutely required a constant speed and a precise position control with fine step angle, are presented. One of the proposed systems is a stepping motor system with microstep driver, another one is a DC servo motor. Experimental results indicate that a low cost and simple FOG driving system using a stepping motor is capable of a satisfactory operation.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve repeatability of a non-invasive blood glucose measurement. The portable NIR system that was newly integrated by our lab includes a tungsten halogen lamp, a specialized reflectance fiber optic probe and a photo diode array type InGaAs detector, which was developed by a microchip technology based on the lithography. Reflectance NIR spectra of finger tip were recorded by using a fiber optic probe. The probe was fixed in the system and subjects put their finger on the probe head. (omitted)

  • 광성능을 모니터하기 위해 필요한 것이 OPM(optical performance monitoring module)이다. OPM에서 가장 중요한 것은 광 신호의 파장을 측정하는 것이다. 기존에는 pilot tone을 사용하였으므로 파장값을 얻기가 어려웠지만, 그후 AWG(arrayed waveguide grating), AOTF (acousto optic tuneable filter) 등을 사용하여 다채널 신호에 대한 파장과 전송 품질을 모니터하게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 일반적으로 광 분해능이 우수하다고 평가되는 FFP-TF(fiber fabry perot tuneable filter)를 채택하였으며, FFP-TF를 사용하기 때문에 필요한 기준파장의 설정을 위하여 광섬유격자(FBG : fiber bragg grating)를 사용하였다.

  • 직접 변조방식을 사용한 장거리 고속 광통신 시스템에서 파이버 색분산은 송신단의 레이저에서 발생된 처핑과 결합하여 심각한 시스템 성능감퇴를 일으킨다. 본 논문에서는 1550[nm] 파장에서 동작하는 2.5[Gbps] 광통신 시스템에서 레이저 처핑이 색분산과 결합하여 시스템에 미치는 영향을 해석하였다. 또한, 레이저 처핑과 파이버 분산을 보상하기 위해서 광 등화기를 사용하였고, 그 결과 수신기 감도가 2~4[dB]정도 개선되었음을 알 수 있었다.

  • This paper describes a newly designed multipoint process monitoring system based on a NIR acousto-optic tunable filter. The NIR multipoint process monitoring system consists of a NIR AOTF device for wavelength selection, an InGaAs array sensor, and a specially designed iin-line type of optical fiber probe. Unlike a FTS(Fourier Transform Spectrometry) or grating based monitoring system, an AOTF has no moving parts, and it can be rapidly tuned to any wavelength in its operating range within microseconds. Thus, the AOTF is advantageous in terms of faster spectral imaging capability and rigidity required for industrial monitoring environment. Applications of Cure Monitoring Techniques by Using Fiber Optic Strain Sensors to Autoclave, FW and Rm Molding Methods

  • This paper describes applications of cure monitoring techniques by using embedded fiber optic strain sensors, which are extrinsic Fabry-Perot interoferometric (EFPI) and/or fiber Bra99 grating (FBG) sensors, to three kinds of molding methods of autoclave, FW and RTM molding methods. In these applications, internal strain of high-temperature curing resin was monitored by EFPI sensors. From theme experimental results, it was shown that strain caused by thermal shrink at cooling stage could be measured well. In addition, several specific matters to these molding methods were considered. As thor an autoclave molding of unidirectional FRP laminates, it was confirmed that off-axis strain of unidirectional FRP could be monitored by EFPI sensors. As for FW molding using room-temperature (RT) cured resin, it was found that the strain outputs from EFPI sensors represented curing shrinkage as well as thermal strain and the convergence meant finish of cure reaction. It was also shown that this curing shrinkage should be evaluated with consideration on logarithmic change in stiffness of matrix resin. As for a RTM melding, both EFPI and FBC sensors were employed to measure strain. The results showed that FBG sensors hale also good potential for strain monitoring at cooling stage, while the non-uniform thermal residual strain of textile affected the FBG spectrum after molding. This study has proven that embedded fiber optic strain sensors hale practical ability of cure monitoring of FRP. However, development of automatic installation methods of sensors remains as a problem to be solved for applications to practical products.

Monitoring of a CFRP-Stiffened Panel Manufactured by VaRTM Using Fiber-Optic Sensors

  • FBG (Fiber Bragg Grating) sensors and optical fibers were embedded into CFRP dry preforms before resin impregnation in VaRTM (Vacuum-assisted Resin Transfer Molding). The embedding location was the interface between the skin and the stringer in a CFRP-stiffened panel. The reflection spectra of the FBG sensors monitored the strain and temperature changes during all the molding processes. The internal residual strains of the CFRP panel could be evaluated during both the curing time and the post-curing time. The temperature changes indicated the differences between the dry preform and the outside of the vacuum bagging. After the molding, four-point bending was applied to the panel for the verification of its structural integrity and the sensor capabilities. The optical fibers were then used for the newly-developed PPP-BOTDA (Pulse-PrePump Brillouin Optical Time Domain Analysis) system. The long-range distributed strain and temperature can be measured by this system, whose spatial resolution is 100 mm. The strain changes from the FBGs and the PPP-BOTDA agreed well with those from the conventional strain gages and FE analysis in the CFRP panel. Therefore, the fiber-optic sensors and its system were very effective for the evaluation of the VaRTM composite structures.

Optimization of a fiber optic probe for non-invasive blood glucose monitoring

  • A portable near infrared (NIR) system which was newly integrated by our lab has been used to develop a non-invasive blood glucose monitoring. The portable NIR system includes a tungsten halogen lamp, a photo diode array type-InGaAs detector, and specialized reflectance fiber optic probes. The shape of probes is composed of two parts. one for illumination into sample and the other for receiving the radiation from sample. Three kinds of probes with different distance between illumination and receiving part. such as 0.03. 0.1. and 0.5mm, were investigated for optimization. (omitted)

  • The precision stage is an essential device for optic fiber assembly systems, micro machines and semiconductor equipments. A new piezoelectric inchworm type actuator is proposed to implement an actuator-integrated long-stroke linear stage. An in-and-quadrature phase (I/Q) heterodyne interferometer is developed as a feedback sensor of a servo system, and a synchronized counting method is proposed. The proposed measurement system can measure the accurate position of fast moving object with robustness to external sensing noise from actuator vibration. The developed servo stage will be applied to optic fiber device assembly system.
