  • In this study a path control scheme of simulation models of various vehicles to evaluate their handling characteristic is developed. Based on the forward target method, path deviation error is estimated and the required steering effort to reduce the error is computed by Ziegler-Nichols PID control rule. Velocity control model is also included in the proposed path control scheme to achieve the desired velocity. The path control scheme is implemented on a full vehicle model to perform ISO test procedures, such as steady state cornering, lane change, and sinusoidal input, etc. Through the simulations of ISO test procedures and comparison with actual tests, effectiveness and validity of the path control model is demonstrated.

  • Most of rotor resistance estimators utilizes Classical qd Model (CQDM) and Alternate qd Model (AQDM). The rotor resistance estimators based on both models were shown to provide an accurate rotor resistance estimate under conditions where flux is constant such as a field-oriented control (FOC) based induction motor drives. Under the conditions where flux is varying such as a Maximum torque per amp (MTPA) control, AQDM based rotor resistance estimator estimates actual rotor resistance accurately even in different operating points. However, CQDM based rotor resistance estimator has not been investigated and its performance is questionable under condition where flux level is varying. Thus, in this work, the performance of CQDM based rotor resistance estimator was investigated and made comparisons with AQDM based estimator under conditions where flux level is significantly varying such as in MTPA control based induction motor drives. Unlike AQDM based estimator, the laboratory results show that the CQDM based estimator underestimates actual rotor resistance and exhibits an undesirable dip in the estimates in different operating points.

  • This paper discusses a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy controller design problem for a phugoid model-based multi-agent system. The error between the state of a phugoid model and a reference is defined to construct a multi-agent system model. A T-S fuzzy model of the multi-agent system is built by introducing a nonlinear controller. A fuzzy controller is then designed to stabilize the T-S fuzzy model, where the synthesis condition is represented in terms of linear matrix inequalities.

  • In this paper some of the main management control theories are reviewed and six dominating paradigms are identified. The identified management control paradigms are compared and analysed in relationship with the European Excellence Model (EEM) in order to investigate whether the EEM can be adopted as a management control model. Based on the analysis. advantages as well as disadvantages of the EEM as control model are discussed.

  • In piezoelectric flexible structures, the contribution of vibration modes to the dynamic response of system may change with the location of piezoelectric actuator patches, which means that the ability of actuators to control vibration modes should be taken into account in the development of modal reduction model. The spatial $H_2$ norm of modes, which serves as a measure of the intensity of modes to system dynamical response, is used to pick up the modes included in the reduction model. Based on the reduction model, the paper develops the state-space representation for uncertain flexible tructures with piezoelectric material as non-collocated actuators/sensors in the modal space, taking into account uncertainties due to modal parameters variation and unmodeled residual modes. In order to suppress the vibration of the structure, a dynamic output feedback control law is designed by imultaneously considering the conflicting performance specifications, such as robust stability, transient response requirement, disturbance rejection, actuator saturation constraints. Based on linear matrix inequality, the vibration control design is converted into a linear convex optimization problem. The simulation results show how the influence of vibration modes on the dynamical response of structure varies with the location of piezoelectric actuators, why the uncertainties should be considered in the reductiom model to avoid exciting high-frequency modes in the non-collcated vibration control, and the possiblity that the conflicting performance specifications are dealt with simultaneously.

  • In this paper, we present model predictive control (MPC) applied to lane keeping system (LKS) based on a vision module. Due to a slow sampling rate of the vision system, the conventional LKS using single rate control may result in uncomfortable steering control rate in a high vehicle speed. By applying MPC using multi-rate Kalman filter to active steering control, the proposed MPC-based active steering control system prevents undesirable saturated steering control command. The effectiveness of the MPC is validated by simulations for the LKS equipped with a camera module having a slow sampling rate on the curved lane with the minimum radius of 250[m] at a vehicle speed of 30[m/s].

  • This paper presents an experiment study on the control of a rotary-type inverted pendulum based on the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model approach. A sufficient condition for stability of the T-S fuzzy control system is given via linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). State-feedback controllers for sub-systems are designed from the sufficient condition via change of variables which is one of the popular LMI techniques. Experimental results on a rotary-type inverted pendulum control show the feasibility of the T-S fuzzy model-based control method.

  • This paper presents implementation of rapid control prototype (RCP) for permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) using a digital signal processor (DSP) and the PLECS software. By utilization of auto code generation function in the PLECS, a current vector control algorithm for a PMSM drive system using a DSP as a control processor can be developed more efficiently. In this paper, a background of a model based design (MBD) and real time control are reviewed. Also, commercial RCP products compatible with DSP boards are introduced. At the end of the paper, experimental implementation of RCP for a PMSM drive is presented.

  • EMB (Electro-Mechanical Brake) systems can provide improved braking and stability functions such as ABS, EBD, TCS, ESC, BA, ACC, etc. For the implementation of the EMB systems, reliable and robust fault detection algorithm is required. In this study, a model-based fault detection algorithm is designed based on the analytical redundancy method in order to monitor current and force sensor faults in EMB systems. A state-space model for the EMB is derived including faulty signals. The fault diagnosis algorithm is constructed using the analytical redundancy method. Observer is designed for the EMB and the fault detectability condition is examined based on the residual analysis. The performance of the proposed model-based fault detection algorithm is verified in simulations. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated in various faulty cases.

  • A major objective of the study is to propose a supervisory control algorithm based on the discrete event dynamic system (DEDS) model and apply it to the automation of nuclear operations. The study is motivated by the suitability of the DEDS model for simulation of man-made control action and the potential of the DEDS based supervisory control algorithm for enhanced licensibility, when implemented in nuclear plants, through design transparency due to strong analytic backgrounds. The DEDS model can analytically show the robust stability of the proposed supervisory controller providing design transpareney for enhanced licensibility when implemented in nuclear operations.
