An educational network system based on CAN protocol internal to a passenger ground vehicle has been developed. The developed network system has been applied to a commercial plug-in electrical vehicle and verified the educational applicability. To apply this in-vehicle network technology based on CAN, a suitable electric vehicle has been chosen and a CAN network structure has been designed, developed and manufactured. Since the commercial electric vehicle chosen as a test bed has its own proprietary electric network, we explain how the original electric network has been utilized and how the new network system has been designed. The developed network system on a real vehicle has been tested to show the applicability and the performance. Finally, the system has been applied at few classrooms to demonstrate how the in-vehicle network system works and to teach how to analyse the CAN signals. The developed system proven to be effective for educational purpose.

ISO/IEC 15118 is a standard for communications and services for electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Although this standard deals only with data communication between an electric vehicle and a charge station, communication with the outside is essential for establishing an authentication system for vehicle certification and V2G service for electric power transmission. In this study, it was designed to verify the information of electric car charging infrastructure in electric power system through communication link between ISO/IEC 15118 electric vehicle model and IEC 61850 standard MMS protocol. This is demonstrated in the field so that the electric vehicle communication data is linked with the micro grid management system. This could be used as an element technology in other distributed power sources as well as electric cars in the future.

This paper is analyzing the situation of the electric vehicle Industry and draw the policy implications to promote electric vehicle industry. Major automobile makers as GM, BMW, Nissan, Audi produce various electric vehicles. But in recent times, only few electric vehicle sold in the world. So, many automobile makers gave up the production of electric vehicles. and the fuel-cell vehicle will replace the electric vehicle as a environment car in the future. We should take the build up of eco system between vehicle makers and the small parts companies, construction of battery charging infrastructure, promotion of standardization activities, and the government's support to revive the electric vehicle industry.
Scheduling of electric vehicles and optimizing for charging waiting time have been critical. Meanwhile, it is challengeable to exploit the fluctuating data from electric vehicles in real-time. We introduce an optimal routing algorithm and a simulator with electric vehicles obeying the Poisson distribution of the observed information about time, space and energy-demand. Electric vehicle routing is updated in every cycle even it is already set. Also, we suggest an electric vehicle routing algorithm for minimizing total trip time, considering a threshold of the waiting time. Total trip time and charging waiting time are decreased 34.3% and 86.4% respectively, compared to the previous algorithm. It can be applied to the information service of charging stations and utilized as a reservation service.

Recently, along with the continuous increase in the supply of electric vehicles, electric vehicle fire accidents are also showing a rapidly increasing trend. Electric vehicle fires last for a long time compared to fires in internal combustion engine vehicles and have problems with the risk of secondary explosions and the generation of large amounts of smoke. In particular, electric vehicle fires in underground roads, which are semi-enclosed spaces, may amplify the problems of existing electric vehicle fires. On the other hand, there are no domestic response guidelines for electric vehicle fires occurring inside underground roads. Therefore, an awareness of fire accidents was confirmed through a survey of the general public, and electric vehicle fire characteristics and primary considerations were derived from stakeholders related to electric vehicle fires in underpasses. Through this, the guidelines for responding to electric vehicle fires on underground roads were established.

An advantage of electric vehicles is that they are environmentally sustainable because they do not emit exhaust gases, such as $CO_2$ or Nox. A disadvantage is the low power performance of the motor and battery source, necessitating a reduction in the weight of the vehicle to increase efficiency. Another disadvantage is that the rechargeable battery enables an electric vehicle to only run for a limited number of miles before requiring electric charging. To solve these problems, the hybrid vehicle has been developed by combining environmental sustainability with the high performance of a conventional internal combustion engine. In this study, an electric UTV (Utility Terrain Vehicle) was transformed into a hybrid vehicle system by outfitting the vehicle with a drive auxiliary power system including a 125 cc internal combustion engine. This modification enabled us to extend the range of the hybrid UTV from 50km to 100km per one electric charging.

Recently, the trend of zero emissions has increased in automotive engineering because of environmental problems and regulations. Therefore, the development of battery electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid/plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs/PHEVs), and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) has been mainstreamed. In particular, for light-duty electric vehicles, improvement in electric motor performance is directly linked to driving range and driving performance. In this paper, using an improved design for the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM), the EV driving range for the light-duty EV was extended. In the electromagnetic design process, a 2D finite element method (FEM) was used. Furthermore, to consider mechanical stress, ANSYS Workbench was adopted. To conduct a vehicle simulation, the vehicle was modeled to include an electric motor model, energy storage model, and regenerative braking. From these results, using the advanced vehicle simulator (ADVISOR) based on MATLAB Simulink, a vehicle simulation was performed, and the effects of the improved design were described.

Most commercial vehicles have adopted the hydraulic power steering system. To reduce fuel consumption and to improve steering controllability, a hybrid electric power steering system is being developed for commercial vehicles. In this study, the HILS (Hardware In the Loop Simulation) system equipped with a commercial vehicle hybrid electric power steering system was developed and the vehicle dynamic performance of a truck with the steering system was evaluated. The hybrid electric power steering system is composed of the EHPS motor pump, column mounted EPS system, and ball nut steering gear box for heavy commercial vehicles. The accuracy of vehicle models equipped with the HILS system was verified with comparisons between the simulation results and field test results. The road reaction forces of the steering system were generated from the vehicle model and verified using field test results. Step steering tests using the verified HILS system were carried out and the performance of a newly developed commercial vehicle hybrid electric power steering system was evaluated.
In this work, the fuel economy of a parallel hybrid electric vehicle is investigated. A vehicle control algorithm which yields operating points where operational cost of HEV is minimal is suggested. The operational cost of HEV is decided considering both the cost of fossil fuel consumed by an engine and the cost of electricity consumed by an electric motor. A procedure for obtaining the operating points of minimal fuel consumption is introduced. Simulations are carried out for 3 variations of HEV and the results are compared to the fuel economy of a conventional vehicle in order to investigate the effect of hybridization. Simulation results show that HEV with the vehicle control algorithm suggested in this work has a fuel economy 45% better than the conventional vehicle if braking energy is recuperated fully by regeneration and idling of the engine is eliminated. The vehicle modification is also investigated to obtain the target fuel economy set in PNGV program.
