  • In this paper, we analyzed theoretically design requirement of a clamp-type optical current transformer(COCT)head, and manufactured a COCT head based on design requirement. Also, we measured and analyzed the current of conductor, and change of optical power and sensitivity with incidence angle of light using COCT head, and demonstrated the feasibility of manufactured COCT through those experiments.

  • When large penetration of the distributed generators (DGs) such as photovoltaic (PV) systems is growing up in grid system, it is important to quickly prevent islanding caused by power system fault to ensure electrical safety. We propose a novel active method for islanding prevention by harmonic injection synchronized with the exciting current harmonics of the pole transformer to avoid mutual interference between active signals. We confirm the validity of the proposed method by performing the basic tests of islanding by using a current source superimposed the harmonic active signal. Further, we carry out the simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC, and verify the fast islanding detection.

  • The Current transformer is classified measuring CT and protective CT for their purpose. The measuring CT is required to retain a specified accuracy over the normal range of load currents, but the protective CT must be capable of providing an adequate output over wide range of fault condition. Therefore, the protective CT must determine the transient performance during fault condition. This paper measured peak instantaneous error of the TPY class CT to determine the transient performance directly and indirectly and studied the test results.

  • A new welding machine which adopts zero voltage and zero current switching(ZVZCS) full bridge(FB) DC-DC converter is proposed. The proposed ZVZCS FB DC-DC converter uses auxiliary transformer to obtain ZCS for leading leg. It has capability of controlling load current even in short circuit condition and is suitable for arc welding machines. The power rating of the auxiliary transformer is about one 5th to one 10th of the main transformer. Experimental results for 10KW prototype are shown to verify the principle of operation.

  • A current transformer(CT) used for the estabilishment of high current national standard, has generally very small ratio error and phase angle error. Both the errors of CT depend critically on the external burden used. When both the ratio and phase angle errors at two different burdens including zero burden are known, those at any other burdens are calculated theoretically. The theoretical values are well consistent with the experimental results within the $82{\times}10$-6, implying the measurement system of CT in KRISS is well maintained.

  • Protective relay for transformer operates in general by comparing with the differential current and the restraint current. These kinds of currents are changed on magnitude and phasor during the fault according to winding type and vector group. This paper presents the differential and restraint currents and operational principle of differential protective relay for two-winding and three-winding transformer with graphical mode. It is developed using MATLAB for and educational purpose on engineer related in power system and protection in university and power utility including large factory.

  • By this time, Diode Rectifier or SCR has been used to gain DC Voltage for Electrolysis Power. Generally DC Voltage is produced from rectifier shall be transformed before rectifier using step-down transformer to obtain adaptable DC Voltage, rectifier output. In the same way, rectifier using SCR shall obtain output voltage after step-down voltage through transformer and control of the SCR firing angle. Transformer shall be used for this two methods to adjust the voltage. But the size and weight of the transformer are increased in accordance with the increase of capacity, and the hardships are accompanied in workspace or transportation. Besides, only the value of input voltage is possible to be regulated, and the expectation of current control is almost impossible during Electrolysis. This study has conducted Design and Simulation to reduce the size and weight of transformer and to be enable voltage and current control of Electrolysis power through high-speed switching using Inverter, Electronics device.

  • The digital substations are being built based on the IEC 61850 network. The cooperation and protection of power system are becoming more intelligent and reliable in the environment of digital substation. This paper proposes a novel method to prevent the malfunction caused by the Transformer Magnetizing Inrush Current(TMIC) using the IEC 61850 based data sharing between the IEDs. To protect a main transformer, the current differential protection(87T) and over-current protection(50/51) are used generally. The 87T IED applies to the second harmonic blocking method to prevent the malfunction caused by the TMIC. However, the 50/51 IED may malfunction caused by the TMIC. To solve that problem, the proposed method uses a GOOSE inter-lock signal between two IEDs. The 87T IED transmits a blocking GOOSE signal to the 50/51 IED, when the TMIC is detected. The proposed method can make a cooperation of digital substation protection system more intelligent. To verify the performance of proposed method, this paper performs the real time test using the RTDS (Real Time Digital Simulator) test-bed. Using the RTDS, the power system transients are simulated, and the TMIC is generated. The performance of proposed method is verified in real-time using that actual current signals. The reaction of simulated power system responding to the operation of IEDs can be also confirmed.

  • Feeding traction loads from the public power system may lead to some current and voltage unbalance and consequently affects the operation of its energy-supply system and other equipment connected with it. This paper introduces an analysis of the current unbalance caused by the demands of an electric railway on a public power system. And the results with compensator and without compensator are simulated, and eventually the formula about the current unbalance is suggested. The Scott-connected transformer is adopted in Korea National Railway System. So Scott-connected transformer among the various transformer connection schemes is analyzed in this paper. Also, the formulas about the unbalance and compensating current can be derived by using two parameters(M-phase and T-phase current) of secondary Scott-connected transformer. So, the practical and accurate simulation can be done through dynamic models by using scheduling of traction.

  • This paper proposes an inrush current control technique of matching transformer for configuration of dynamic voltage restorer(DVR). The DVR system consist of PWM inverter to inject arbitrary voltage, LC low pass filter as harmonic eliminator and matching transformer for isolation. However, the matching transformer has an excess of inrush current by magnetic flux saturation in the core. Due to this inrush current, the rating of matching transformers is double for needed nominal rating for protection of DVR. Therefore, in this paper, the modeling method of magnetic flux saturation is used to analyze a magnitude of inrush current, and additional current controller is used for PWM inverter output regulation. Simulation and experimental results are provided to demonstrate the validity of the proposed control method.
