  • This study is concerned with development of 3-Dimensional simulator of a biped robot that has a prismatic balancing weight or a revolute balancing weight. The dynamic stability equation of a biped robot which have a prismatic balancing weight is conditional linear but a walking robot's stability equation with a revolute balancing weight is nonlinear. To get a stable gait of a biped robot, stabilization equations with ZMP (Zero Moment Point) are modeled as non-homogeneous second order differential equations for each balancing weight type. A trajectory of balancing weight can be directly calculated with the FDM (Finite Difference Method) solution of the linearized differential equation. In this paper, the 3-Dimensional graphic simulator is programmed to get and calculate the desired ZMP and the actual ZMP. Walking of 4 steps was simulated and verified. This balancing system will be applied to a biped humanoid robot, which consist Begs and upper body, at future work.

  • This paper proposes a method that minimizes the consumed energy by searching the optimal locations of the mass centers of the biped robot's links using Genetic Algorithm. This paper presents a learning controller for repetitive gait control of the biped robot. The learning control scheme consists of a feedforward learning nile and linear feedback control input for stabilization of learning system. The feasibility of learning control to the biped robotic motion is shown via computer simulation and experimental results with 24 DOF biped walking robot.

  • Biped robot has better mobility than other mobile robot, but it is hard to maintain balance during walking. In order to maintain balance, stability analysis is a key point for a biped robot. The zero moment point analysis has been used most in stability analysis. In this paper, we propose different method of stability analysis using wrench system. It is possible to generate a wrench system by applying a force along an axis in space and simultaneously applying a moment about the same axis. Wrench system is equivalent to a force and moment applied along the same axis. We compare the result of wrench system analysis with that of zero moment analysis in biped robot stability using simulation program.

  • In this paper, the structure of a new gravity compensator was studied, and the biped walking robot applying a gravity compensator was presented to improve the performance of the robot. The robot had 13 degree of freedom and is driven by the joint actuator with the gravity compensator. Each leg of the robot is composed of six joints three joints at the hip, a joint at the knee, and two joints at the ankle. The leg of the robot was designed to support 74kg weight including 30kg payload thanks to the gravity compensator. The performance of the robot was presented by reducing the payload applied to the leg joint of the robot thanks to the gravity compensator.

  • We developed a human-sized BWR(biped walking robot) named KUBIR1 driven by a new actuator based on the ball screw which has high strength and high gear ratio. KUBIR1 was developed to walk autonomously such that it is actuated by small torque motors and is boarded with DC battery and controllers. To utilize the information on the human walking motion and to analyze the walking mode of robot, a motion capture system was developed. The system is composed of the mechanical and electronic devices to obtain the joint angle data. By using the obtained data, a 3-D graphic interface was developed based on the OpenGL tool. Through the graphic interface, the control input of KUBIR1 is performed.

  • We have developed a human-sized BWR(biped walking robot) driven by a new actuator based on the ball screw which has high strength and high gar ratio. Each leg of the robot is composed of three pitch joints and one roll joint. In all, a 10 degree-of-freedom robot with two balancing joints was developed. For the purpose of autonomous walking and higher performance, we improved the previous developed BWR. We improved the motor drive efficiency, designed the ball screw actuator in a modular type, and simplified the electric wires. Through this modification, we achieved better performance in walking.

  • A learning controller is presented for repetitive walking motion of biped robot. The learning control scheme learns the approximate inverse dynamics input of biped walking robot and uses the learned input pattern to generate an input profile of different walking motion from that learnt. In the learning controller, the PID feedback controller takes part in stabilizing the transient response of robot dynamics while the feedforward learning controller plays a role in computing the desired actuator torques for feedforward nonlinear dynamics compensation in steady state. It is shown that all the error signals in the learning control system are bounded and the robot motion trajectory converges to the desired one asymptotically. The proposed learning control scheme is ...

  • For walking patterns of biped robots, knee-bent patterns are used in most cases. However, humans are mostly walking with their knees nearly stretched. In this paper, a human-like walking algorithm using hybrid system is proposed for biped robots, The hybrid system consists of the logically constituted discrete system, in which the discrete states are defined by considering the walking characteristics, and the continuous state system used for motor control. It is shown that the proposed algorithm is effective by experimental studies.

  • This paper deals with the reduction of trajectory tracking error by changing the initial postures of a biped robot. Gait of a biped robot depends on the constraints of mechanical kinematics and the initial states including the posture. Also the dynamic walking stability in a biped robot system is analyzed by zero moment point(ZMP) among the stabilization indices. Path trajectory, in which knee joint is bent forward like human's cases, is applied to most cases considered with above conditions. A new initial posture, which is similar to bird's gait, is proposed to decrease trajectory tracking error and it is verified through real experimental results.
