A Beoseonbongip is a pouch that holds patterns for making Beoseons. This study aimed to identify the aesthetic and symbolic contents of the embroidery patterns by analyzing the kind, combination types, expression and arrangement types of patterns. In total, 140 Beoseonbongip artifacts, which were mostly made in the Joseon Dynasty, were quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed. The results indicated that about 83% of the total had flower patterns. Various kinds of embroidery patterns used for Beoseonbongips were newly identified. About 73% of the total had different kinds of patterns. Pattern combination types were identified by the kinds of patterns, the number of paired patterns, and the traditional painting styles used. The patterns of Beoseonbongips were expressed schematically more than realistically or abstractly. Beoseonbongips with different patterns on the four triangle tips of the front face and Beoseonbongips with the same/similar patterns on two opposite tips of the front face were observed more than the other types. On the back face, the embroidery patterns were symmetrically arranged, showing various division structures. It was inferred that wishes (e.g., marital harmony, fertility, good health and longevity, happiness, and wealth and fame) were expressed through the symbolic patterns embroidered on the Beoseonbongips. In terms of Korean traditional beauty, the union with nature, the harmony of yin and yang, symmetric balance, and neatness were also emphasized as a esthetic characteristics of Beoseonbongips.

This study was established to understand how Arte Povera has affected the contemporary fashion based on the analyses of its characteristics and may provide a prospective view to predict style of future fashions. The results were as follows : 1) “The poverty” shows such characteristics as patch work, intentional mismatch, and tendency to prefer slightly used style. This meaning can be explained as direct expression from a sense of alienation, against to consumer economy, and dual-expression between poverty and wealth. 2) “Anti-formativeness” can be described for misinterpretations of creation, arrangement, and informal silhouette due to distortion of the human body. This expression includes such meanings as against to traditionalism, ignorance of rationality, and disorganization of the concepts between the beauty and the ugly. 3) “Naturalism” indicates as characteristics of use of natural materials and primitive expression. This expression could be generated from adaptation to the nature and desire toward uncivilized society due to skepticism about modern society. 4) “Symbolism” shows such expressions as an isolated feeling from society, and metaphoric sense from specific situations because there are too many applications of imported materials. This tendency can be also explained with the creations of spaces for opened concepts through disorganizations of territory, obscurity, and irregularity.

This study considered the performing arts culture with a focus on Palgwanhoe Ceremony and various stunt-songs and dance (Baekhee-Gamoo) from the Goryeo period as well as examined the characteristics of performing arts' costume for Baekhee-Gamoo shown in Palgwanhoe Ceremony. The Baekhee-Gamoo shown in the Palgwanhoe Ceremony included acrobatics, traditions from comic dramas, puppet shows, mask plays, and four musical troupe flowers of youth in the Silla Dynasty, who excelled in beauty, bravery and the military arts (Sasun-Akboo). These were performed on a wagon ship with dragon, phoenix, and elephant animal masks (Yong-Bong-Sang-Mageosun). The characteristics of performing arts' costume for each performing arts are as follows. First, the general costume of the time was used for performing arts' costume. There were no special costumes for performing arts and it was just transformed or added for the efficiency of acrobatics. Second, the reality was improved by focusing on the historical research on costume suitable for characters and background of events in the performing arts to clearly deliver the purpose of the ceremony and quickly arouse audience's curiosity towards the performing arts' costume for the tradition of comic dramas and puppet shos in the Palgwanhoe Ceremony. Third, magical powers and symbolism were expressed through masks and performing arts' costumes. Palgwanhoe Ceremony aimed for magical powers that could protect weak human beings from threats and repel everything unfair while also symbolically showing the deified being through the performing arts' costume.

This study aims to develop the hospital clothing for dementia patient, which can bring them higher quality of life by giving them psychological and emotional satisfaction. As for the research method and contents, the authors searched the characteristics of aging society and dementia patient, mainly concentering on the related researches and publications. In addition, the characteristics of current domestic clothes design trend for dementia patient and design preference were studied by looking into previous studies. Also, on the characteristics of overseas design was examed by looking into sites on dementia, actual clothes and related catalogues. The development and evaluation of the design of clothes for dementia patient was conducted and which was based on the above researches. Then, the patients hospital clothing was designed and made. And also the discussion was followed with related field experts such as medical doctor and nurses, carer-givers, patient clothing manufacturers and professors of clothing textiles. Finally the authors designed and manufactured six patient clothes including one for male, one for female, two for common use in hospital, one for disable male dementia and one for disable female dementia. The developted clothes got high marks on beauty and symbolism in the evaluation by the experts. The design development of dementia patient clothes in this research will help the dementia patients' psychological comfortness and social protection.

최명희의 소설 "혼불" 속 소나무 표현 어휘와 문장, 문맥 등의 분석과 해석을 통해 소나무의 지칭어와 상징성 등의 토속적 경관언어를 조명한 본 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 소설 "혼불" 속에 묘사된 소나무 관련 경관언어는 매우 다채롭고 다양한 방식과 표현을 통해 전개되고 있다. 특히 소나무 지칭어와 쓰임새에 대한 어휘 표현상의 다양성과 세분화된 양상이 읽혀진다. 둘째, 소설 "혼불" 속 경관언어는 다양한 상징을 보이는데 소나무가 갖는 고유 이미지와 통시적 상징성뿐 만 아니라 소설의 서사구조상 '혼불'이라는 상징 이미지를 구체적으로 구현시키기 위한 경관언어로서 자리매김 된다. 셋째, 소설 "혼불"에 묘사된 경관언어는 소나무의 선형미와 재질감 그리고 오감을 통한 공감각적 표현 등으로 심미성을 극대화하고 있다. 넷째, "혼불"에 나타난 배경지 경관은 소나무 고유의 상징성과 이미지를 토대로 소설의 서사구조상, 소나무가 하늘과 땅, 신과 인간 그리고 성과 속을 넘나드는 상징적 배경막이다. 다섯째, 소나무 관련 경관언어는 소설 속 인물의 정신과 정서를 대변하는 표상이며 자연의 인격화, 사물의 신격화 그리고 공간의 우주화를 추구하기 위한 장치이자 소설 배경지의 경관성과 의미망을 표현하는 표상적 이미지 또는 상징체로 활용되고 있다. 소설 "혼불"에 등장하는 소나무의 어휘 표현 및 상징성을 다룬 본 고는 소설의 배경무대는 물론 남원 소나무의 토속적 경관 이미지와 경관언어를 이해하는데 시금석이 될 것으로 기대한다.

팔경시 '경주십이영'을 통해 서거정은 고도 경주의 폐허화된 역사문화경관에 대한 감회를 적나라하게 표현하고 있다. '경주십이영'은 신라문화의 대표적 성지인 계림, 반월성, 나정, 오릉 그리고 장소성 깊은 승경인 금오산(남산), 포석정, 문천, 첨성대, 분황사, 영묘사, 김유신묘 등을 중심으로 거기에 깃든 신화와 설화는 물론 관련된 사건과 인물을 회고하는 방식으로 이루어져 기존 '팔경'과는 다른 폐허미학적 메타포가 강하게 전달되고 있다. '경주십이영'은 서거정의 팔경시 뿐만 아니라 그 이전의 팔경시와 비교할 때, 제영 구조와 형식은 물론 내용에 있어서도 차이를 보이는데, 특히 의미와 행위를 부각시킨 인문적 특성이 강하게 나타난다. '경주십이영'의 제영 순서를 추적할 때 2일 이상의 유람시간을 통해 2개 이상의 시각회랑으로 이루어진 것으로 보이며, 봄철에 지어진 시임에도 불구하고 시 속에는 '자연의 아름다움과 생활의 풍류' 그리고 '번성과 풍요'는 배제되고 대부분 오래 되고, 부서져 허물어지고, 늙고, 슬프고 등의 아쉬움과 슬픔의 정조가 지배적이다. 서거정은 '경주십이영'을 통해 경주의 다양한 경승과 경물 등 가시 영역의 문명적 폐허 뿐만 아니라 신화와 전설 등 비가시 영역의 문화적 폐허를 반복, 병렬, 병치 그리고 대조의 수사학적 표현으로 회고와 영탄의 폐허미를 읊고 있다. 이는 서거정이 '경주'를 바라보는 사유방식이자 표현방식이며 기존 회고시의 전형적 특성으로 서거정이 '경주십이영'을 통해 표현하고자 한 폐허 경험은 무엇보다도 그것이 전하는 아우라, 즉 12가지 역사문화경관에 담긴 총체적 신라문화에 편재한 질에 대한 정성적 경험이었다는데 그 특징이 읽혀진다. 기문 등을 근거로 '고도 경주'에 대한 서거정의 긍정적 인식에도 불구하고 '경주십이영'에 담긴 신라와 경주의 이미지는 폐허로 점철되고 있다. 그러나 폐허가 소멸과 몰락의 길을 가리키는 비관주의적 개념임에도 불구하고, 그 폐허의 양상은 조선 전기의 문풍을 좌우했던 인물로서 조선 왕조를 통해 경주를 다시 상승 부흥시키고자 하는 의지를 포괄하는 양가적인 것으로 보인다. 그러므로 서거정의 '경주십이영'에서 발견되는 풍경의 미학은 가장 은유적이면서도 문화적 상징성이 강한 것으로 폐허성을 반성적 경험의 가치로 전환하기 위한 역설적 폐허미학의 소통방식으로 전개되고 있다.

본 연구는 이어(李漁; 1611-1680)의 "한정우기(閑情偶寄)" "종식부(種植部)"에 수록된 68종 식물 중 상징적 의미와 독특한 완상 방식을 지닌 27종의 식물을 추출하여 고찰했다. 해석한 내용을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 식물의 상징성이다. 1) 모란은 외적으로 꽃이 아름다울 뿐만 아니라 강직하고 정직한 특성을 갖기 때문에 화왕(花王)으로 삼는다. 모란과 겨룰 수 있는 꽃은 작약밖에 없으나 작약을 화상(花相)으로 비유한다. 이어는 작약도 마땅히 다섯 등급의 제후(諸侯) 대열에 속해야 한다고 했다. 2) 이어는 복사꽃과 동백꽃을 미인의 뺨으로 해당화, 재스민 꽃, 다화장미, 수선화, 개양귀비를 자태가 다양한 여인으로 비유하면서 이에 대한 사랑스러운 감정을 꽃에 투영하였다. 3) 이어는 연꽃을 꽃 중의 군자로, 황양목을 나무 중의 군자로 삼는다. 반대로 서향을 꽃 중의 소인(小人)으로 비유한다. 4) 감탕나무는 풍채가 있으나 절개를 과시하지 않는 까닭에 이어는 감탕나무를 은사로, 멀리서 바라본 능소화를 하늘 끝의 신선으로 비유한다. 둘째, 식물의 완상 방식이다. 1) 식물감상 시 보조 시설을 활용해야 한다. 야외에 나갈 때 천막을 휴대하야 하고, 정원에서 매화를 감상 시 종이 병풍을 활용해야 정취를 더욱 느낄 수 있다고 했다. 매화 이외에도 이어는 난초 옆에 감상할 수 있는 기물을 배치해야 더욱 다채롭게 식물을 향유할 수 있다고 했다. 2) 이어는 백일홍과 살구나무의 예를 들어 식물은 동물과 사람처럼 지각이 있다고 주장했다. 3) 오감으로 식물과 교류하는 것이 필요하다고 했고, 이는 버드나무와 합환을 통해 가능하다고 했다. 연꽃과 매괴의 예를 들어 식물은 관상 가치뿐만 아니라 실용 가치가 있다고 강조했다. 4) 사물의 비유로, 일반 사람들은 계관화를 '닭 벼슬'로 보는 반면에 이어는 하늘의 상서로운 구름과 같다고 했다. 종합하자면 본 연구는 이어가 식물에 의미를 부여하여 인간의 다감각적 세계를 식물에 투영해서 인격화하고 식물에 대한 그의 사랑을 더해 독특한 식물 향유 방식을 표출해 냈다는 것에 의미가 있다. 명말청초에 문인들이 아취(雅趣)의 삶을 추구했는데, 그의 식물의 상징성 및 식물 완상 방식은 그 당시 문인들의 아취의 삶을 반영할 수 있다고 생각한다.

The purpose of this study is to understand the concept of a sexual image and verify the method of its design expression through case studies of the sexual image evening dress shown in an Haute Couture Collection over the last 10 years (2005~2014). The results of analysis are as follows: First, "expression by the seeing through of the natural body" expressed a natural sexual image that combined fashion of the previous times with the beauty of the natural body by using a see-through material and classic or ethnic image. Second, "expression of a sexual-image look that emphasizes romantic detail" illustrated a romantic sexual image that emphasizes feminine sensitivity by mixing various ornamental elements such as see-through material and symbolism of underwear image. Third, "creation of a nude look using skin color" expressed sexual image of an evening dress by inducing erotic sexual association through a combination of opaque material of skin color and design shape that is intended for body exposure. Fourth, "combination of sexual symbol and heterogeneous elements" expressed a decadent, avant-garde and futuristic sexual images by using women's underwear and a sexual symbol as design motif and mixed with mismatching elements. Fifth, "use of a fantastic black image" expressed an exclusive and refined sexual image and a decadent and primitive sexual image by using a fantastic image of black color. The results of this study are expected to be used for the design process of the evening-dress industry that aims for quality improvement.

This study considers expression types and aesthetic characteristics by analyzing Animal sculptures by Billie Achilleos in art collaboration with Louis Vuitton. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, As for expressin type shown in the art collaboration, it is reflected the historical and cultural value peculiar to a country symbolized through animals. As the aesthetic characteristics of symbolism, it reflects historical identity of country by using an image of a symbolic animal representing a state. Second, as the type shown in physical characteristics of animals by utilizing items in Louis Vuitton directly, it is organically expressed a literal type by directly integrating a form having been designed as a commodity itself into the characteristically physical part of an animal. As the aesthetic characteristics according to this is naturality, the motive of the work having borrowed shapes of diverse animals or insects can be said to have been naturally reflected in the primitive natural beauty. Third, through the deconstruction and recombination of a Louis Vuitton item. the amusement of the aesthetic characteristics was expressed in a type having the structurally embodied dynamic movement of an animal, and is expressing visual fun. Fourth, it uses expression type emphasized a specific part of an animal by decorating accessories in Louis Vuitton partly. The aesthetic characteristics is Ornament, the value of craft decoration is being shown by using colorful visual effects by using materials with the colorful textures and patterns of fabrics or mixing embroidery or beads, and belt decoration.

This study focuses on the establishment of the medical practitioners' brand image through uniforms design developments and the need for recognition, which follows the globalization and evolution of the medical industry. It also embodies public healthcare management services, as well as works to develop a unified design for nurse uniforms at the Gyeonggi provincial medical center in order to place it as a foothold hospital in the region. The results of the study are as follows: First, the symbols of nurse uniforms were divided into external and internal definitions. However, when comparing the uniforms of university hospitals and Gyeonggi provincial medical center, the nurses of the Gyeonggi provincial medical center preferred a uniform that had a strong symbolic meaning. Second, the functionality of nurse uniforms included management of uniforms, sewing, and measurements as important elements. Also, it was found that medical center nurses prefer materials with high functionality. Third, the aesthetics of nurse uniforms and decoration, which includes the external shape and popular influences, were displayed. Also, medical center nurses have a higher preference in external aesthetics than university hospital employees. The results of this study were used as the basis for the development of the design for the Gyeonggi provincial medical center nurse uniforms, which are as follows. First, in terms of symbolism, active application of the Gyeonggi provincial medical center's brand image and medical practitioners such as the Gyeonggi provincial medical center's logo were applied to establish a unified image. Second, in terms of functionality, consideration of the special working conditions and activities were taken into place through the use of functional materials and details to create superior application and efficient work performance. Third, in terms of beauty, bright and neat colors as well as pleasantries were emphasized to create a professional image that will reel in confidence from the patients.
