  • The development of land classification and soil productivity rating systems (SPR) are examined for their application to valuation of agricultural land in South Dakota, USA. For current and impending environmental and agricultural land issues, there is virtually no hard data available. Therefore, the study works with government and private sector clients to identify needs, and develop and apply a variety of techniques to mine data and carry out appropriate assessment methods. The application of SPR data to land valuation work conducted by real estate appraisers, tax assessors, and economists are discussed along with an assessment of its benefits and limitations. However, the actual value of the agricultural land can be determined by fulfilling the agricultural's vision of protecting and improving the environment by agricultural activities besides the safe food production. Therefore, it is increasingly important that we understand the impacts of farming and forestry on land, water and air.

  • Polyglutamine extension in the coding sequence of mutant huntingtin causes neuronal degeneration associated with the formation of insoluble polyglutamine aggregates in Huntington's disease (HD). Mutant huntingtin can form aggregates within the nucleus and processes of neurons possibly due to misfolding of the proteins. To better understand the mechanism by which an elongated polyglutamine causes aggregates, we have developed an in vitro binding assay system of polyglutamine tract from truncated huntingtin. We made GST-HD exon1 fusion proteins which have expanded polyglutamine epitopes (e.g., 17, 23, 32, 46, 60, 78, 81, and 94 CAG repeats). In the present emergence of new study adjusted nanotechnology on protein chip such as surface plasmon resonance strategy which used to determine the substance which protein binds in drug discovery platform is worth to understand better neurodegenerative diseases (i.e., Alzheimer disease, Parkinson disease and Huntington disease) and its pathogenesis along with development of therapeutic measures. Hence, we used strengths of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) technology which is enabled to examine binding specificity and explore targeted molecular epitope using its electron charged wave pattern in HD pathogenesis utilize conjugated mutant epitope of HD protein and its interaction whether wild type GST-HD interacts with mutant GST-HD with maximum binding affinity at pH 6.85. We found that the maximum binding affinity of GST-HD17 with GST-HD81 was higher than the binding affinities of GST-HD17 with other mutant GST-HD constructs. Furthermore, our finding illustrated that the mutant form of GST-HD60 showed a stronger binding to GST-HD23 or GST-HD17 than GST-HD60 or GST-HD81. These results indicate that the binding affinity of mutant huntingtin does not correlate with the length of polyglutamine. It suggests that the aggregation of an expanded polyglutamine might have easily occurred in the presence of wild type form of huntingtin.

  • Direct velocity feedback (DVFB) control is known that it offers an unconditional stability with very high performance when the control strategy is applied at a point collocated sensor and actuator pair, because the sensor-actuator pair has strictly positive real (SPR) property. In this paper, two types of collocated sensor-actuator pairs are considered for practical active vibration control of a structure. They are a point collocated sensor-actuator pair and a point sensor-distributed actuator pair. Both pairs with DVFB sho robust stability and performance. It is noted that the collocated point sensor-actuator ultimately acts as a 'skyhook' damper, but the point sensor-distributed actuator pair with DVFB acts as a 'skyhook' rotational dmaper pair.ational dmaper pair.

  • Rhodamine B dye (RB) has been introduced into the mesoporous silica (SBA15) and Ag anchored mesoporous silica by applying solution impregnation method. Surface treatment of SBA15 with 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS) facilitates selective anchoring of the RB molecules on SBA15. The photoluminescence spectra of RB confined within SBA15 indicates higher emission intensity, than that of the RB solid, particularly in the presence of Ag nanoparticles. The significant enhancement in photoluminescence intensity is attributed to the local enhancement of the optical fields near the molecules by interactions with silver plasmons.

  • The MRAS proposed by Schauder [8] is modified to improve robustness to the change of load torque and/or the variation of the stator resistance. The difference between the voltage and the current model is fed into the current model via proportional and integral gains. In order to generalize the MRAS, supposing that the rotor speed is time varying, we add a compensating term to the current model. It does not alter the Popov's integral inequality condition. Also, the asymptotic stability of the modified MRAS (MMRAS) is shown with the stability proof technique as in the original paper. By the simulation works, it is verified that the MMRAS obtains improved performance than the original MRAS.

  • FcBP consisting of 13 amino acids specifically binds to Immunoglobulin G Fc domain. Initially, we utilized this peptide for preparation of antibody chip as a PEG composite for enhanced solubility. After then, the peptide conjugate was immobilized on agarose resin, resulting in highly efficient affinity column for antibody purification. The efficiency was comparable to commercial Protein A column. Recently, this peptide was conjugated with cell penetratingpeptide (CPP) on a backbone of GFP, affording antibody transducer, which carries antibody into live cells by simple mixing of antibody and the transducer in cell culture media. Antibody transduction into cells was monitored by live cell imaging. More recently, the FcBP was fused to ferritin cage, which consists of 24 ferritin protein molecules. The FcBP-ferritin cage showed greatly increased binding affinity to human IgG. Its binding was analyzed by QCM and SPR analysis. Finally, it was selectively delivered by Herceptin to SKBR3, a breast cancer cell, over MCF10A, non-tumorigenic cells.

  • A method to analyze the anisotropy constants of a two sublattice system with uniaxial anisotropy has been investigated by extending the Sucksmith and Thompson's method to higher order anisotropy terms. Using the method, a set of anisotropy constants for Pr-sublattice of $Pr_2Fe_{14}B at 4.2K has been obtained as K_{1Pr}=5210 J/kg, K_{2Pr}=-7200 J/kg, K_{3Pr}=-770 J/kg, K_{4Pr}=4940 J/kg and K_{SPr}=700 J/kg for N_{PrFe}=2.2 T/Am^2kg^{-1}.$ The magnetization calculated by an energy minimum method by using the sublattice anisotropy constants well reproduced the experimental results and satisfied the simulation assumptions.

  • This paper describes the design of a robust adaptive neural-net(NN) observer for uncertain nonlinear dynamical system. The Lyapunov synthesis approach is used to guarantee a uniform ultimate boundedness property of the state estimation error, as well as of all other signals in the closed-loop system. Especially, for reducing the dynamic oder of the observer, we propose a new method in which no strictly positive real(SPR) condition is needed with on-line estimation of weights of the NNs. No a priori knowledge of an upper bounds on the uncertain terms is required. The theoretical results are illustrated through a simulation example.

  • Polygonal finite element provides a great flexibility in mesh generation of crack propagation problems where the topology of the domain changes significantly. However, the control of the discretization error in such problems is a main concern. In this paper, a polygonal-FEM is presented in modeling of crack propagation problems via an automatic adaptive mesh refinement procedure. The adaptive mesh refinement is accomplished based on the Zienkiewicz-Zhu error estimator in conjunction with a weighted SPR technique. Adaptive mesh refinement is employed in some steps for reduction of the discretization error and not for tracking the crack. In the steps that no adaptive mesh refinement is required, local modifications are applied on the mesh to prevent poor polygonal element shapes. Finally, several numerical examples are analyzed to demonstrate the efficiency, accuracy and robustness of the proposed computational algorithm in crack propagation problems.
