Effects of $La_2O_3$, $MnO_2$ on the Dielectric and Piezoelectric Properties of $0.02Pb(Y_{2/3}W_{1/3}O_3-0.98Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$ ($La_2O_3$$MnO_2$$0.02Pb(Y_{2/3}W_{1/3}O_3-0.98Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$의 유전 및 압전 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Effects of $La_2O_3$, $MnO_2$ on the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of $0.02Pb(Y_{2/3}W_{1/3}O_3-0.98Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$ system were investigated. The addition of La2O3 to the system enhanced electromechanical coupling factor (kp), piezoelectric constant (d33), but hardly changed mechanical quality factor (Qm). On the other hand, the addition of $MnO_2$ increased Qm significantly, but did not degrade kp and d33 so much. The piezoelectric properties of $0.02Pb(Y_{2/3}W_{1/3}O_3-0.98Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$ containing 0.1wt% $La_2O_3$, 0.4wt% $MnO_2$ were very good and kp, d33, Qm were 55%, 350$\times$10-12C/N, 780, respectively. The size of the grains was proportional to the change of c/a (tetragonality) ratio caused by the addition of $La_2O_3$ and $MnO_2$, and dielectric, piezoelectric properties were sensitive to the amountof pyrochrole phase.

  • Properties of the anode for cathodic protection need low overvoltage for oxygen evolution and high corrosion resistance. It is well known that DSA (Dimensionally Stable Anode) has been the best anode ever since. DSA is mainly composed of $RuO_2$, $IrO_2$, $ZrO_2$, $Co_2O_3$, and also $Ta_2O_5$, $TiO_2$, $MnO_2$ are added to DSA for better corrosion resistance. The lifetime of DSA for cathodic protection is also one of the very important factors. $RuO_2$, $IrO_2$, $RhO_2$, $ZrO_2$ are well used for life extension, and many researches are focused on life extension by lowering oxygen evolution potential and minimizing dissolution of oxide coatings. This work aims to evaluate the influence of constituents of MMO and coating cycles and $ZrO_2$ coating on the electrochemical properties and lifetime of DSA electrodes. From the results of lifetime assessment in the anodes coated with single component, $RuO_2$ coating was more effective and showed longer lifetime than $IrO_2$ coating. Also, an increased coating cycle and an electrochemically coated $ZrO_2$ could enhance the lifetime of a DSA.

Preparation of Transparent Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Hard Coating Films and Physical Properties by the Content of SiO2 or ZrO2 in Their Films (투명 유-무기 하이브리드 하드코팅 필름 제조 및 SiO2 또는 ZrO2함량에 따른 필름의 물성)

  • Transparent organic-inorganic hybrid hard coating films were prepared by the addition of $SiO_2$ or $ZrO_2$, as an inorganic filler to improve the hardness property, filler was highly dispersed in the acrylic resin. To improve the compatibility in the acrylic resin, $SiO_2$ or $ZrO_2$ is surface-modified using various silanes with variation of the modification time and silane content. Depending on the content and kind of the modified inorganic oxide, transparent modified inorganic sols were formulated in acryl resin. Then, the sols were bar coated and cured on PET films to investigate the optical and mechanical properties. The optimized film, which has a modified $ZrO_2$ content of 4 wt% markedly improved in terms of the hardness, haze, and transparency as compared to neat acrylate resin and acrylate resin containing modified $SiO_2$ content of 8 wt%. Meanwhile, the low transparency and high haze of these films slowly appeared at $SiO_2$ content above 10 wt% and $ZrO_2$ content of 5 wt%, but the hardness values were maintained at 2H and 3H, respectively, in comparison with the HB of neat acrylate resin.

Residual Stress on Concentric Laminated Fibrous Al2O3-ZrO2 Composites on Prolonged High Temperature Exposure

  • This paper investigates the effect of prolonged high temperature exposure on concentric laminated $Al_2O_3-ZrO_2$ composites. An ultrafine scale microstructure with a cellular 7 layer concentric lamination with unidirectional alignment was fabricated by a multi-pass extrusion method. Each laminate in the microstructure was $2-3{\mu}m$ thick. An alternate lamina was composed of 75%$Al_2O_3$-(25%m-$ZrO_2$) and t-$ZrO_2$ ceramics. The composite was sintered at $1500^{\circ}C$ and subjected to $1450^{\circ}C$ temperature for 24 hours to 72 hours. We investigated the effect of long time high temperature exposure on the generation of residual stress and grain growth and their effect on the overall stability of the composites. The residual stress development and its subsequent effect on the microstructure with the edge cracking behavior mechanism were investigated. The residual stress in the concentric laminated microstructure causes extensive micro cracks in the t-$ZrO_2$ layer, despite the very thin laminate thickness. The material properties like Vickers hardness and fracture toughness were measured and evaluated along with the microstructure of the composites with prolonged high temperature exposure.

  • Several $Al_2O_3$-based polycrystalline which had different dopant ratio in the range of 0.5mol% were prepared by doping pure $Cr_2O_3$ $HfO_2$. Single crystalline which had same composition with above polycrystalline were made by means of floating zone method. This study examined the role of each dopant for enhancing the mechanical properties of $Al_2O_3$-based Ceramics. Optical micrographs $({ imes}200)$ of $Al_2O_3-Cr_2O_3$ single crystal showing not only radial crack (rc) on the specimen surface but median crack(mc) and lateral crack(lc) under surface at the edge of indentation mark. Fracture toughness of Al2O3-based Ceramics was increased with $ZrO_2$ content. Alloying effect of $Cr_2O_3$ contributed to the hardness of $Al_2O_3$ based ceramics.

  • Thin $ZrO_2/Al_2O_3$ films were deposited on a tool steel substrate using Zr and Al cathodes in a cathodic arc plasma deposition system (CAPD), and then oxidized at $600-900^{\circ}C$ in air for up to 50 h. They effectively suppressed the oxidation of the substrate up to $800^{\circ}C$ by acting as a barrier layer against the outward diffusion of the substrate elements and inward diffusion of oxygen. However, rapid oxidation occurred at $900^{\circ}C$ due mainly to the increased diffusion and subsequent oxidation of steel as well as the crystallization of amorphous $Al_2O__3$.

  • The effect of Co dopant on the (La, Sr)MnO3 cathode was investigated. La2Zr2O7 and SrZrO3 were formed as the reaction products between YSZ and LSMC. The reactivity of LSMC with YSZ increased with increasing Co content. However, the cathodic polarization resistance decreased with increasing Co doping. Therefore, doping Co at Mn site in the (La, Sr)MnO3 cathode was effective on controlling the polarization resistance of the cathode. The polarization property of LSMC-YSZ composite(60 wt%: 40 wt%) cathode was better than that of LSMC single cathode.

  • In this paper, the microwave dielectric properties of the yPb($Fe_{2/3}W_{1/3}$)$O_{3}$ - (1-y)($Pb_{x}Ca_{1-x}$)$ZrO_{3}$ system were investigated. It was found that an addition of Pb($Fe_{2/3}W_{1/3}$)$O_{3}$ promotes the grain growth, the solid solution between the Pb-based perovskite and the Ca-based perovskite and the decreasing of the sintering temperature. Especially, we found that 0.05Pb($Fe_{2/3}W_{1/3}$)$O_{3}$-0.95($Pb_{x}Ca_{1-x}$)$ZrO_{3}$ ceramic has not only lower sintering temperature but also better dielectric properties than those of the (Pb, Ca)$ZrO_{3}$ systems.

  • Effects of calcination process and ZrO2 addition on the electrical properties of [(Ba0.82Sr0.08Ca0.1)O]m(Ti1-$\chi$Zr$\chi$)O2 ceramics have been investigated. With the variation of A/B-site ratio m of the dielectric formulations, sintering behavior and the resistivity after sintering in a reducing atmosphere have been affected by the calcination process. When the dielectric formulations of m=1.01 were sintered in a reducing atmosphere, the room-temperature resitivity of 109 {{{{ OMEGA }}.cm was obtained for samples processed with two-step calcination, which was much lower than 1012 {{{{ OMEGA }}.cm of samples calcined once. It was confirmed that high resistivity of Ca-doped BaTiO3 ceramics, after sintering in a reducing atmosphere, is maintained by acceptor-like behavior of CaTi" which is formed by Ca substitution to Ti-site. It was also found out that the critical amount of B-site Ca substitution for reduction inhibition of BaTiO3 is around 0.005 mol. With the increasing amount of ZrO2 addition to dielectric formulations, Curie peak was depressed and Curie temperature was lowered due to the enhanced diffuse phase transition.tion.

High-temperature Oxidation of CrZrN Films in Air (CrZrN 박막의 대기 중 고온산화)

  • Films of CrN, $Cr_{40}Zr_9N$, and $Cr_{31}Zr_{16}N$ were deposited on a steel substrate by closed field unbalanced magnetron sputtering, and their oxidation behaviors at $700^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$ for up to 60h in air were investigated. All the deposited films were composed of the CrN phase. Zirconium atoms in $Cr_{40}Zr_9N$ and $Cr_{31}Zr_{16}N$ films partially dissolved in the CrN phase. They advantageously refined the columnar structure, reduced the surface roughness, and increased the microhardness. The CrN film displayed relatively good oxidation resistance, owing to the formation of the highly protective $Cr_2O_3$ on its surface. The $Cr_{40}Zr_9N$ and $Cr_{31}Zr_{16}N$ films oxidized to $Cr_2O_3$ as the major phase and ${\alpha}-ZrO_2$ as the minor one. They oxidized primarily by the inward transport of oxygen. The addition of Zr could not increase the oxidation resistance of the CrN film, because the formed $ZrO_2$ that was intermixed in the $Cr_2O_3$-rich oxide layer was oxygen permeable, and developed the compressive stress in the oxide scale owing to the volume expansion during its formation.
