  • The importance of urban and regional natural park increases because of the needs for preserving the natural resources and providing with natural recreation space in nature. This planning of natural park management should be established based on the research of the various natural resources in the park. But for the lack of effective data synthesizing methods and concepts, only some restricted factors for zoning plan are considered even though GIS computer system for large complex simulation is used. Therefore, in this study three ecological zoning models such as Basic Factor Model (BFM), Visual Landscape Model (VLM) and Comprehensive Ecological Model (CEM) are proposed and applied to Byounsan Peninsula Nature Park(BPNP) for comparison with the current natural park zoning. The BFM has three components -elevation, slope and vegetation. The VLM has applied with six components -elevation, slope, vegetation, road type, and the visual distance. Finally the CEM's modelling factors have included all of BFM, VLM components are added with the land use type, nature and historic resource factors. The zoning concept of BPNP was based on "Minimization" focused on the specific factors. But introduced modelling concept is "Optimization" based on the total ecological environment. So the result of the modelling has larger area for preservation and development zoning compared with the current zoning whose characteristics are ambiguous which allows the environmental destruction. The future study issues will be the determination of the weighting factor, component reconsideration based on the ground truth data and the agriculture residential area zoning.

  • The performance of database applications with large sets of multidimensional data depends on the performance of its access methods and the underlying disk system. In modeling the disk system, even though modem disks are manufactured with multiple physical zones, conventional access methods have been developed based on a traditional disk model with many simplifying assumptions. Thus, there is a marked lack of investigation on how to enhance the performance of access methods given a zoned disk model. The paper proposes novel zoning techniques that can be applied to any multidimensional access methods, both static and dynamic, enhancing the effective data transfer rate of underlying disk system by fully utilizing its zone characteristics. Our zoning techniques include data placement algorithms for multidimensional index structures and accompanying localized query processing algorithms for range queries. The experimental results show that our zoning techniques significantly improve the query performance.

  • This paper is a numerical study of various methods of applying SOFC hot BOP insulation. The application methods are four cases from case 1 to case 4, and the performance difference between the result of applying powdered insulation and the result of zoning using composite multi-layer insulation was examined. Numerical results show that the thermal stability of composite multi-layer insulation is better than that of powder insulation when the thermal conductivity is 0.04 W/mK. In the future, we will increase the thermal conductivity of the composite multi-layer thermal insulation material and find the greatest value of thermal conductivity with a similar result to that of the powder insulation.

  • A Purpose of this study is to suggest the methods of increasing landscape area in building sites. There are several means by which landscape design operates. Development bonuses are used to encourage developers to include plazas or walkways or some attractive public space in a development in exchange for increased floor areas. Special zoning districts, in which locally specific design controls are applied, can be established. Site plan controls can be used to regulate the landscape design and landscape management.

  • In analysis of slope stability, deterministic analysis which yields a factor of safety has been used until recently. However, probability of failure is considered as a more efficient method because it deals with the uncertainty and variability of rock mass. In both methods, a factor of safety or a probability of failure is calculated for a slope although characteristics of rock mass, such as characteristics of joints, weathering degree of rock and so on, are not uniform throughout the slope. In this paper, we divided a model slope into several zones depending on conditions of rock mass and joints, and probabilities of failure in each zone are calculated and compared with that calculated in whole slope. The persistence of joint was also used as a parameter in calculation of probability of failure. A rock slope located in Hongcheon, Gangwondo was selected and the probability of failure using zoning and persistence as parameter was calculated to confirm the applicability of model analysis.

  • Background and objective: A biosphere reserve is a complex concept that combines the preservation of biodiversity and the sustainable development with the region, outstanding ecosystems with worth conserving in worldwide. The purpose of this study is to suggest the way of zoning that can perform the functions of conservation, development, and logistics support of biosphere reserves. Methods: To meet the purpose of this study, the designation criteria, restrictions, and permissions of the protected area specified in the law for domestic protected areas were reviewed to classify the functions of a biosphere reserve. Results: Through this classification, 10 domestic protected areas with high ecological protection value, such as the natural beauty of the ecosystem, biodiversity, and habitats for wild animals and plants were derived as the core areas of the biosphere reserves. Also, a total of 21 protected zones that can function as a buffer to protect the core of the natural ecosystem from indiscriminate development such as resource protection, recovery, pollution prevention, and improvement were derived as appropriate sites for a buffer. In the review process, issues such as different behavioral restrictions and ranges of permission due to the application of different laws were identified, if two or more protected areas exist within one of the protected areas, there is a protected area that does not meet the criteria for designating use zone, or where behavior restrictions do not meet the zoning criteria of biosphere reserve, under the laws of domestic protected areas. Conclusion: Although this study was not able to carefully review most of the laws on domestic protected areas that are linked to other laws, it was able to categorize appropriate domestic protected areas that can act as the core and buffer zones of biosphere reserves.

  • The objectives of this study were to examine the production processes and methods of "Forest Type Map Actualization Production (Database (DB) Construction Work Manual)" (Work Manual) identify issues associated with the production processes and methods, and suggest solutions for them by applying evaluation items to a 1:5k digital forest type map. The evaluation items applied to a forest type map were divided into zoning and attributes, and the issues associated with the production processes and methods of Work Manual were derived through analyzing the characteristics of the stand structure and fragmentation by administrative districts. Korea is divided into five divisions, where one is set as the area changed naturally and the other four areas set as the area changed artificially. The area changed naturally has been updated every five years, and those changed artificially have been updated annually. The fragmentation of South Korea was analyzed in order to examine the consistency of the DB established for each region. The results showed that, in South Korea, the number of patches increased and the mean patch size decreased. As a result, the degree of fragmentation and the complexity of shapes increased. The degree of fragmentation and the complexity of shapes decreased in four regions out of 17 regions (metropolitan cities and provinces). The results indicated that there were spatial variations. The "Forest Classification" defines the minimum area of a zoning as 0.1ha. This study examined the criteria for the minimum area of a zoning by estimating the divided object (polygon unit) in a forest type map. The results of this study revealed that approximately 26% of objects were smaller than the minimum area of a zoning. The results implied that it would be necessary to establish the definition and the regeneration interval of "Areas Changed Artificially and Areas Changed Naturally", and improve the standard for the minimum area of a zoning. Among the attributes of Work Manual, "Species Change" item classifies terrain features into 52 types, and 43 types of them belong to stocking land. This study examined distribution ratios by extracting species information from the forest type map. It was found that each of 23 species, approximately 53% of species, occupied less than 0.1% of Forested land. The top three species were pine and other species. Although undergrowth on unstocked forest land are classified in the terrain feature system, their definition and classification criteria are not established in the "Forest Classification" item. Therefore, it will be needed to reestablish the terrain feature system and set the definitions of undergrowth.
